It's scary how almost everyone has actually answered #5 correctly, despite it plainly being a made-up word, but nearly no-one has answered #1 correctly, despite it just being an adding-up problem.

Casio
I thought I at least got one! I demand want a recount!

It took me ages to recount your simply massive points tally, and it came out exactly the same as before.

Who got number one correct?

TheCracker and Duke - and DQuaN's bonus point is for that question too.

Casio
ZERO?!

I thought I at least got one! I demand want a recount!

Don't bother arguing it will only make matters worse as I found out in Round 3.

Ouch...

Amierca and Japan, yay.... Big populations, but again isn't that global.

Isn't the biggest comeptition in Baseball called "The World Series"?

In name only. How many non-North American teams compete in the World Series?

Famine
If I knew anything about "American" sports, I'd ask questions about them. I wouldn't even know the correct context to ask questions about Gretsky or Sosa.

So instead I ask about WORLD sports - the FIFA World Cup (proper football) is the largest single-sport event on Earth, and the second largest event of any variety (after the summer Olympics).

There's no rule stating that you must answer every question correctly - or even attempt them at all. If you don't know or like a question, ignore it.

There isn't a rule against Googling either - but winning by getting someone else to answer for you makes you a big poopyhead, and makes Baby Jesus cry.

Yeah, I never meant my comment to be taken so seriously. It's no big deal.

Hmmm yeah I guess.. But it is open to the whole world I presume.

Gretsky? :dunce:

We can't allow you to set foot in Canada: your spelling error is criminal.

Point: I know nothing about ice hockey or bazeball, so wouldn't even attempt to azk a queztion about them.

Doesn't make a difference if I'm Jewish.

Famine: Mind telling me on which questions I got the bonus and the half point and why a half?

Daan: Two countries participate in the Baseball world series: US and Canada... but here's a better one: the Super Bowl winner is a world champion, and they only have one country there, although Canada has a CFL, but the rules change slightly... intead of the field being 100 yards, it's 100 mts... like in real football, right?

You didn't quite get #5 right, though you had the right idea, and you got an good extra factlet, which also answered the question, in on #9

The fact that 110 yards is relatively close to 100 metres is pure coincidence. The field was designed using yards, and is marked in yard increments.

(And just to enlighten the masses: contrary to popular belief, Canadian football is not an offshoot of American football. American football is an offshoot of Canadian football.)

Alright, my bad then...

anyway, there's a music quiz thread going on in the music section... :D

Whenever I decide that everyone who wants to enter has entered. And not a second sooner!.

You may scoff, but Mars has just this minute submitted a set of answers. So there.

Okay... It's answerin' time!

Famine
1 (Numbers): How many living beings are mentioned in the famous "As I was going to St. Ives" poem (note: I'm not asking you to solve the riddle, which has the answer "1", but how many living beings in total if you add them all together)?

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats, each cat had seven kits.
Kits, cats, sacks, wives - how many were going to St. Ives?

So, you have:
1 man
7 wives
49 sacks
343 cats
2401 kittens

The sacks aren't living beings, so it's 2401 + 343 + 7 + 1 = 2752, or 2753 if you include the narrator, who mentions himself.

Famine
2 (Inventions): With what invention is Art (Arthur) Fry credited?

Arthur Fry is credited with the invention of the Post-It Note.

Famine
3 (Literature): Aslan, the Pevensies and Mr. Tumnus - in which book do they all appear as central characters?

"The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", from C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia". Note that "The Chronicles of Narnia" is NOT a correct answer.

Famine
4 (Motorsports): Who is the Indy Racing League champion for 2005?

Scotland's Dan Wheldon.

Famine
5 (Biology): What is nociception?

Nociception is the sense of pain.

It's worth noting that humans have between 9 and 21 senses (depending on whether you use broad or fine definitions), not 5. Along with taste, touch, sight, smell and sound, we have pain, balance (equilibrioception), heat (thermoception) and self (proprioception) - though many of the senses can be subdivided. Taste, for instance, can be considered four senses - sweet, sour, bitter and salty.

Fascinating, and entirely true. "The Sixth Sense" my arse.

Famine
6 (Chemistry): Which chemical has the symbol "Ds"?

Ds is Darmstadtium - the element formerly known as Eka-Platinum or Ununnilium (Uun).

Famine
7 (TV): Caffrey, Pegg, Fenway, Ramsey, Baylock and Cavennaugh form "Red Team" - an emergency response to alien first contact - in which recent CBS sci-fi series (also aired on Sky in the UK)?

The series is "Threshold", now cancelled with 4 episodes left to run in the series. Bugger.

Famine
8 (Sports/Football): Which club holds the record for the most "Ballon d'Or" (European Footballer of the Year) winners?

This is Juventus, with 7 wins for their players - Paolo Rossi (1982), Michel Platini (1983, 1984, 1985), Roberto Baggio (1993), Zinedine Zidane (1998) and Pavel Nedved (2003)

Famine
9 (Science): Project Juno took Helen Sharman to become the first... what?

Helen became both the first British person in space AND the first non-American, non-Soviet woman in space.

Famine
10 (Geography): What is the capital city of Slovakia?

Bratislava.

Oh hell. Have I missed out?
When I'd finished the PM I came back here and the answers were afoot. :(
