The McLaren on the dirt course suggests that most if not all car can race on dirt. Although, It would more appear seem that the track the McLaren was on was a created track. It'll be interesting to drive a NASCAR on dirt. Imagine doing oval dirt track racing. 👍

Sprint car racing meets Nascar! 👍
I can imagine having fun like this in a Nascar already! :D

GT4 also allowed some sportscars on dirt tracks, I doubt it will be possible with NASCAR cars.

Thanks, man, but I know it's reflective, since I wouldn't be able to see it otherwise... :P

What I meant is the "[WIKIPEDIA]specular highlight[/WIKIPEDIA]" isn't diminished (much?) by the dirt, it should be more matte than shiny (or diffuse, instead of coherent; random, not parallel.) This effect is definitely possible, though most methods use texture- / buffer-based processing, which the PS3 is already "short of".

I should probably wait for a better quality version anyway (it's an "official" video, so I'm expecting it to appear on the official websites at some point.)

EDIT: We love cars!
EDIT: OK, so it's old... but it wasn't there an hour ago in the news... oops. :ouch::embarrassed:

Depends on the dirt, but some dirt, like desert sand and clay wouldn't diminish the shine of the paint that much. And besides, the car is Carbon Fiber, which doesn't really have a shine. Which would imply that the shine that you see is mainly from the dust. And dust is pretty shiny, really.

If my boss tells me my reflective clothing needs a wash, I'm going to tell him to get stuffed and point him in the direction of this thread.

Edit. Brunner I want your babies, thanks mate.

Did anyone notice the track “Eifel (circuit)” just before the player switched over to Toscana Pavement (0:08)? Looks new to me.

Alright. To the right to the Toscana scenery there's "Eifel":

It's interesting to note that it's Eifel (Circuit). Toscana is Toscana (Pavement).

Yup!

Yeah, but there ought to be a difference here - the dirt is not a flat surface, as the specular highlight would lead us to believe. I'm blaming a low-res dirt buffer, or at least its specular map seems low-res - like I said, it'd be clearer on a better quality video.
Carbon fibres are pretty reflective in their own right, too, you know; more than clay (and its derivatives), in fact - I guess that's why the car is shiny in the first place ;)

You guys are too funny, now everyone's judging the graphics of GT5 from a small 45 second 400x300 flash video clip. It's just like saying sex looks lame from a 3rd person perspective without experiencing it first hand.

I guess that's an example

Shiny!

The reason "carbon fibre" bodywork is matte, is due to the finish, not the fibres themselves. It's like the difference between a keyed surface for painting (rough as a badger's wotsit) and the final, lacquered and polished job - smooth as, well, a smooth thing, giving that mirror shine.

With the dirt / dust here, irrespective of how shiny a single facet of that dirt is, there are millions of those facets all irregularly aligned: thus it should look dull, like our keyed primer - unless it's fairly wet.

But to answer your question: yes, carbon does absorb light - just like pretty much all matter does. :)

Don't worry guys.It will be only delayed in Russia and then why would gamestop post four weeks of gt5 footage till the scheduled release. The release for the other countries will still be the same. And you know sony is not so stupid to do that when their are already so many pre-orders.Trust me it will be released on the scheduled days.
There's message on Russian Playstation twitter that says it will be released at same date as everywhere.

Be warned that for full quality I meant the full original quality, which is higher than in the small box on the Gamestop website, but still lower than HD.

The original format is:
VP6 752 x 432, 30 fps, 450 Kbps

Would that not get downscaled to "360", since it's "smaller" than "480" ?
Or did you stretch it to HD first? :dopey:

i.e. delayed everywhere? :nervous:

It's time for Sony to tell the truth.

@SHIRAKAWA Akira
Do you know the RTMP URLs of those videos?

Indeed. If the Russian delay is true as it seems to be, and it has been pushed back one month...why would the retailers have stopped taking pre-orders? If all this is true, Sony may drop a bomb at the last minute and push the game back to who knows when.

Well there is no co-pilot calling out directions in the F1. This is the first time we've seen Laguna right? I figured they would have showed it on the official site to tell you the truth.
