Nice work..
Like you say, if you've got access to the toychest, you may as well have a play!

I'm with the other guy's above, you've got a market for these if you could churn a few out in your spare time!

I think so akmuq. I almost ordered them yesterday but their $17 to ship :/ thats $2 less than the product.

I suppose where they're shipped from. I'm not sure where fanatic are based but I'd say they're closer to Ireland then the USA. Anyways I managed to convince my dad to either make some for me or attach some for me.:)

hey guys i want to do the same mod for my DFGT but i am a little bit confused
on the pictures i can see that u have used metall for the shifters , that's good but there must something between them , i mean if u press the shifter ( and it's made of metall ) it would break or it would be curved

i mean if u look on the picture where we can see the whole shifter mod , there must be something between the half circle and the rest of the shifter because if not the metall would become curved
??
thx for the nice mod

The material I used was abs plastic, so it has flex in it the pictures above that isnt me.they have used metal and they use the tabs on the back for flex (basically they have made an extension to the paddles)

Wow, I'll keep my eye on this thread for inspiration. I've been quite keen to install some mods on my DFGT beside the red tape I put in the middle lol.

Any updates? I have thought about these

:ill: Those paddles cost like half the price of the DFGT itself.... not a smart choice imho!

BTW the idea of a pair of DIY paddles is great, unfortunately I don't have a CNC but with a dremel and a piece of plexiglass it's very easy to do the job (and also unexpensive)
The only thing I have to find is a way to bend the plexy to follow the curve of the paddles buttons of the GT (an heatgun should work fine....) and the best glue/resin to glue the wheel and the plexiglass:dopey:

Great thread; if only there where any DFGT wheels available to mod. ;)

I too am wondering about the potential increase in torque being applied to the plastic buttons by adding paddles, especially anything made of material that doesn't flex. Also, motzkopf, how much modification did you have to do to get the Fanatec paddles to work? Thanks.

I'm also looking for a way to mod ClubSport shifter paddles to a DFGT, and I'm not able to find any info about this. Does anybody have a how-to, or have any pointers?

The first paddles that I had mounted to my DFGT were mounted directly to the buttons on the wheel. It didn't take long for me to want to change it because the paddles were flexing all over the place. It was all but impossible to get it to shift if you were hitting the paddles anywhere but the middle. Others may have them mounted to the buttons different/better than I had, but I didn't like the feel at all.

I think i sent it to motzkopf but in case i screwd it up. Here it is again . Hi motzkopf.I am a new member.I ordered the driving force gt wheel and should get it next week. After seeing your post I decided to purchase the fanantec paddle shifters . I am a litttle dumb on how to mount them to the wheel. I would really appreciate it if you could post some pictures of how you mounted them and give some info of where to drill holes and how to mount .

There was also a poster by the name of clines5k on another forum who was in the process of making prototype paddles for sale that could be mounted onto the DFGT. Unfortunately though he only made like three posts back in January of 2011, and he only posted up these pictures:

CNC Drawing (?)
Rough hand-made prototype

with adding external gear padles on dfgt is there still enough room between the paddles and the box of the wheel for hands or do they get in the way when driving?

i have ordered it (EU here), yesterday.

i will give a reply, how it fairs, when it gets here. The second i saw the link and checked it out, i just instantly ordered it, lol.

Let us know because I will order them depending on your review. 👍

If it were a few bucks cheaper, it would be a no-brainer for me. But at the price it's being sold at, I'm also eager to read a review or two before ordering one.

i wish there was more detailed pictures of the ones on granturgismo.... i don't want to copy or anything, just see closer how they look and how bulky they are once mounted.

edit: nevermind. found it on the site. i wonder how much stress the adhesive on these can handle?

Just ordered a pair as well. Figured it was worth a try.

The Granturgismo paddles look great, looking forward to the reviews.

Yes! a review would be enlightening! I don't like the look of the paddles but the construction looks very sturdy and well designed:tup:

I have to admit that this paddle solution looks much more professional than mine:)

Looks like my paddle shifters are scheduled to deliver on Monday. I'll try and get a quick short term review up after some testing Monday night.

I received mine a few days ago. The paddles are not too shabby. My only real complaint is that it doesn't provide as much haptic feedback from clicking the paddles, but then again the paddle buttons themselves don't click enough to begin with.

The paddles don't rely on the strength from the adhesive to trigger; instead they rely on some sort of black tape material, not sure what, but it provides a joint for the paddles and results in minimized stress on the adhesive and can trigger well.

Yes!

Finally they got here and so forth i shall give out my first impressions with them:

My first impression:

Truth be told, for some reason i actually expected them to be out of steel or something, so it came as a small shock, which quickly passed, when i first opened my letter package took the two paddles out. (Same kind letter, you do find your video games be shipped in).

what came in the package:

2 paddles (duh xD)
1 glass cleaning pad with cleaning alcohol.
1 receipt
1 "thank you for buying" letter

Didn't expect the cleaning pad, had bought some cleaning alcohol and pads myself, so now you know, you don't need to buy them before hand xD

The paddles:

As it wasn't steel but plastic i got a little concerned but it seem rather flexible, so not a huge concern needed here, although my paddles didn't quite look like what was seen on the product page, might be some tweaks? There were some black leathery band around it, as seen on the picture below, guess it's some more support for the more "delicate" part.

seen from another angle, shows how the flex part is done. As there are 3 holes at the supporting part, which indicates for future "permanent" install, when the warranty is gone on the wheel.

The assembly:

Went pretty smooth, just followed the manual shown on the site's support page, you don't get one with you in the package, a shame but not something you really need to worry about, there are only a few steps and they are pretty simple too, straight forward to success.

After 1 minute or 2 of heavy pressure like a maniac each paddle later, it looks pretty neat.

The Test:

imag0270.jpg

Although it's very light and flexible plastic, it does the job, a light press and you change gears, the big reason however for getting this, are for the tight corners, and it does that job very well.

You do however have to change how you hold the steering wheel now, as it does take some of the space you might be used to hold on to, as i myself were, but it only took my a few laps and that old habit was gone for quicker and smoother gear changes.

It didn't double shift nor give zero response, whether it'll stay this flexible is to be seen from months on. But right now, it's working like a charm.

The Conclusion:

I like it, pretty simple to install on your wheel, without much of trouble, 3 holes already drilled in the paddles, for possible attaching it with more robust solutions than adhesive, but such would void the warranty of the wheel, so it's good to always have this option ready.

Did what it was supposed and made to do for us DFGT users, making it way easier shifting gears in tight corners, and a little more fun now too.

Although it's plastic it's not the kind that feels like it would break any second, and for the price i guess there isn't much of a reason to complain too much about it, as it looks great.

if i had to give it a score from 1 to 10, i do give it a 9.

Recommended! :)

hope this helps anyone who is on the fence to get one. And sorry for blurry pictures, hehe. :P
