Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Regulations

Section 1 Purpose & Miscellaneous

1-1 The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge exists as a stage for GTPlanet members to race automobiles simulated in Gran Turismo 5 in as close a spec to real life that the Gran Turismo 5 simulation platform allows. Driver skill, automobile performance, and entrant tuning skills will be put to the test as entrants represent their favourite mass-produced road-going vehicles in closed-circuit speed competitions.

1-2 The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge also exists to be the best organized, most competitor-friendly Race Series on GTPlanet.

1-3 Per regulation 1-2 any questions a GTPlanet member may desire answered upon the completion of reading Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Regulations may be asked in this thread.

1-4 Every Entrant therefore is expected to understand and comply with each regulation stated in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Regulations.

Section 2 Definitions

2-1 The word “automobile” or “car” is used in reference to the exact model simulated within the Gran Turismo 5 platform.

2-2 The word “driver” or “entrant” is used to define the GTPlanet member competing or desiring to compete in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

2-3 The word “event” is used to describe a meeting of entrants in an online lobby to compete in a simulated motor race for points towards the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship. All on-track running, including free practice time, designated qualifying time, and the race itself is considered to be a part of the event.

2-4 The word “Road Course” is used to refer to Road Course – Daytona, the simulated Daytona International Speedway road course in Gran Turismo 5.

2-5 The word “Race Series” or “series” is used to refer to the individual and collective events that make up the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.

2-6 The word “Full Season” refers to entrants who are within the first 16 to sign up and thus have “first dibs” on a place within the 16 lobby positions at any given Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event.

2-7 The word “Reserve” refers to entrants whose lobby position is contingent upon a Full Season (or higher ranked reserve) entrant being unable to join the event.

2-8 The word “we” is used to refer to Jonerz, RETROCRX, and DriftMastrClass, the co-administrators/Stewards/organizers of this championship.

2-9 The word “steward” is used to refer to Jonerz, RETROCRX, and DriftMastrClass, the co-administrators/organizers of this championship.

Section 3 Eligibility

3-1 Entrants must use the exact make, model, and model year automobile listed in the “Specific Vehicle Regulations” section.

3-2 No vehicle part or modification may be added or removed unless it is written as an allowed modification specifically for the automobile in question in the Specific Vehicle Regulations.

3-3 Automobiles are split into two classes GS and ST to simulate where their real life counterparts compete in Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge events. Classification and models represented are done so at the sole discretion of Chief Steward Jonerz and are subject to being added or dropped from the championship at any time. If you desire to add a car to a class, or move an existing car to a class please make the request to me via Private Message and we will discuss it therein.

3-4 Drivers who are members of GTPlanet.net of any skill and experience level in racing simulations are welcome to compete in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge events.

3-5 All Driver aids (Traction Control, Active Stability Management, Steering Help, Show Racing Line, etc.) less Antilock Brakes will be set to off. Use of ABS is at the entrant’s discretion.

3-6 Automobiles that do not meet the exact model defined in the Specific Vehicle Regulations section, with the exact modifications (no more, no less) listed therein are illegal and may not enter an official Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event.

3-7 Entrants undertake the responsibility to check the thread for updates, as changes to Specific Vehicle Regulations as well as other regulations will be announced, and due to GTPlanet posting regulations, may be announced in a previously existing post in an “Edit”. Stewards will do their best to differentiate changes to posts and rules and make changes as clear as possible to the entrant, including through the use of GTPlanet’s Private Message system.

3-8 Gran Turismo 5 limits the number of entrants in an online lobby to 16. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge will feature two classes (GS and ST). Each class therefore, is limited to 8 entries.

3-9 Reserve Drivers: due to the 16 entrant limitation in online events, reserve drivers will be accepted. Thus, drivers on the full-season entry list must do their best to indicate well in advance that they will be missing an event to allow time for me to indicate to the highest placed reserve driver within the full season driver’s class the need for him or her in that event.

3-10 Entry positions will be given on first-come, first-serve basis. Once a class is filled with its 8 Full Season drivers, GTPlanet members are welcome to enter the class undersubscribed, or reserve their position amongst reserve drivers in their desired class.

3-11 Reserve drivers will be selected based on their place within the cue (vis a vis, first-come, first-serve). If a Full Season ST entrant cannot make the race, the highest-ranked ST reserve entrant will take his place.

3-12 Reserve drivers are encouraged to join the race lobby if they see it is not full within the half-hour of free practice time before the start of qualifying.

3-13 Entrants must be in the lobby prior to the start of qualifying. I reserve the right to change this modify this rule if circumstances dictate.

3-14 Lobby position priority will be given to full season and reserve drivers higher on their respective entry list. If a full season or reserve driver higher placed requests entry within the 30 minute practice time, the lowest ranked reserve will be asked to vacate his lobby position.

Section 4 Chassis/Bodywork Regulations

4-1 Automobiles may not have any “aero” modifications equipped when they enter a Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Event, unless otherwise stated in the Specific Vehicle Regulations section.

4-2 Weight Ballast must be added to the car in the tune section as defined in the Specific Vehicle Regulations section. Chief Steward Jonerz holds the right to add and subtract weight from the automobile at any point supplanting the weight value listed in the Specific Vehicle Regulations section. An official will update the Specific Vehicle Regulations in a new color with the change and the date the value was changed and must go into effect.

Section 5 Use of Horsepower Restrictors

5-1 Entrants must set their car to the horsepower number indicated in Specific Vehicle Regulations by using the horsepower restrictor option in Gran Turismo 5 ‘Tuning’. In Grand-Am this is done through the use of air-inlet-restrictors, consider this to be the same thing for all intents and purposes. This action is taken to equalize competition as well as best simulate the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Any changes will be announced in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge thread, using the same procedure as in section 4-2.

5-2 Horsepower numbers stated in Specific Vehicle Regulations is subject to change at Chief Steward Jonerz’s discretion. This change will supplant the previous value listed in Specific Vehicle Regulations. We will update the Specific Vehicle Regulations in a new color with the change and date the value was changed and must go into effect. Any changes will be announced in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge thread, using the same procedure as in section 4-2.

Section 6 Authorized Modifications

6-1 There will be general modifications required for every vehicle in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge events. To ease reading, those will be listed in the Specific Vehicle Regulations section.

6-2 Modifications and restrictions exist to best simulate the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.

6-3 Gearbox: Transmissions must remain stock to simulate the use of OEM gearboxes and Grand-Am defined final drive ratio as well as limit the possibility that gear ratios change inadvertently or otherwise with the use of a Fully Customizable Transmission.

6-4 Camber: Grand-Am limits the negative camber of automobiles competing in Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge to 3.0 degrees. For the purposes of honest simulation, camber for Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge events will be restricted to 3.0 degrees.

Section 7 Series Specific Racing Regulations

7-1 Standard GTPlanet Online Racing Regulations apply.

7-2.1 Daytona Road Course: Multiclass racing on the high-speed banking of Daytona can be tricky. Entrants must maintain the following guideline during RACE portions of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Event. ST cars must hold the “low line” (hugging the inside yellow line) while in NASCAR turns 1-2, and 3-4 (the heavily banked corners on Daytona International Speedway) and wait to find a gap in traffic before taking the ideal line into Road Course turn 1 and the ‘bus stop’ (the left, right, right, left combination on the back straight). GS cars must pass ST cars on the “high line” (hugging the outside wall) while in NASCAR turns 1-2, and 3-4. Before moving to the inside to overtake cars into Road Course turn 1 and the bus stop, drivers must be sure the line is clear of traffic. This regulation will be repeated in the Daytona event post.
7-2.2 Series round one at Daytona will require two mandatory pit stops to be completed between laps 9 and 12 and laps 18 and 24. Competitors entering pit road must follow the "real life" pit road entrances AND exits. No glitching for a faster pit stop, and no reentering the race course until the short shoot before the International horseshoe (follow the extended, walled pit exit). Chief Steward Jonerz watched the replay of last week's race and most certainly will watch the replay and will see every stop each entrant makes.

7-3 Points & Championship: each event in the series of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge pay a point value relating to finishing position in the race portion of the event.

7-4 Points Payout: 1st Place 10 points, 2nd Place 8 points, 3rd Place 6 points, 4th Place 5 points, 5th Place 4 points, 6th Place 3 points, 7th Place 2 points, 8th Place 1 point.

7-5 Points earned at each event will be tallied towards an overall Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series championship.

7-6 Boost will be set to off.

7-7 Penalties will be set to off.

7-8 Grip Reduction will be set to Real.

7-9 Contact between cars may happen inadvertently, no advantage can be taken from contact between cars and all incidences will be reviewed by me. Please keep the complaints and such OUT of the race lobby chat (and off mic). Address any complaints and displeasure via PM to one of the stewards and we will investigate.

7-10 Lobby chat (and mic) can be used freely during practice. During qualifying and the race we ask you restrict your use of the chat (and mic) functions so stewards can best keep track of the event.

Section 8 Individual Event Schedule

8-1 Free practice is 30 minutes in length and begins at the time indicated in the thread.

8-2 This is the standard for split GS and ST qualifying sessions. All Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge events will employ this qualifying procedure. As with all the rules make sure you have READ this rule and UNDERSTAND this rule prior to entering the lobby for free practice.

8-2.1 The Chief Steward will signal the conclusion of free practice. It is the responsibility of the entrant to stop lapping immediately and return to the pits.
8-2.2 Once the track is clear the Chief Steward will signal the beginning of ST qualifying. At this point ST entries will have ten minutes to complete fastest lap times to set grid order for the race. EACH ENTRANT MUST RECORD HIS BEST TIME TO THE THOUSANDTH OF A SECOND. GS cars are asked not to enter the track at this time.
8-2.3 At the conclusion of the ten minutes of ST qualifying the Chief Steward will signal the entrants to return to pit road. The Chief Steward will then request fastest lap times from each individual entrant in case of a lobby error. (Note: These errors are common. All the more reason to follow the rules.)
8-2.4 Once the Chief Steward has recorded the ST grid order he will signal the GS cars to start their 10 minute qualifying session. At this point no entrant may withdraw from the pit road. ST cars are asked not to enter the track at this time. EACH ENTRANT MUST RECORD HIS BEST TIME TO THE THOUSANDTH OF A SECOND.
8-2.5 At the conclusion of the ten minutes of GS qualifying the Chief Steward will signal the entrants to return to pit road. The Chief Steward will then request fastest lap times from each individual entrant in case of a lobby error.


8-3 Race length of individual events will be defined on the event schedule below (and in the individual race post) and will begin after the conclusion of ST qualifying and on my signal.

8-4 This is the standard for rolling starts. All Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge races will employ this style of start. As with all the rules make sure you have READ this rule and UNDERSTAND this rule prior to entering the lobby for free practice.

8-4.1 The Chief Steward will call for the start of the race procedure. At this point all drivers must be “entered” in the race and prepared for the race start. The steward must give fair warning at least two minutes prior to the command to give all competitors a chance to start the race. The race will not be restarted for any driver missing the start of the race.
8-4.2 At the expiration of Gran Turismo 5’s standard three second countdown to the race, GS entrants will be released to start the formation lap. At this point if there has been a discrepancy between where the entrant is lined up on GT5’s grid to where he actually qualified the entrant is free to SAFELY move to his earned starting position. The ST front row is asked to wait a further FIVE seconds before setting out. Grid order discrepancy may then be solved as above.
8-4.3 One pace lap at 65mph will precede each race unless the steward sees fit to cancel the race start and instruct the field to complete one more. Drivers are asked to maintain single file for the lap before lining up two by two BEFORE entering the FINAL corner on the race track. ST is asked to maintain the approximate FIVE second gap to the tail of the GS field.
8-4.4 The pole sitter is not allowed to accelerate until he reaches the start finish line. There will be no overtaking until the entrant’s car is past the start finish line.



Section 9 Specific Vehicle Regulations

9-1 Details: The exact automobile and modifications listed below define the automobile each entrant must bring to each event. Body and wheel paint color as well as wheel type are free to be chosen by the individual entrant.

9-2 Tires: Every Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge automobile must have Racing Hard tires equipped for every portion of a Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event.

9-3 Exception to 9-2: Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe ’07 cannot adequately simulate the Mustang Boss 302 nor the Mustang GT cars legal for Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition. (Due to weight distribution resulting from its large double-overhead cam V8, relatively thin track, and live rear axle setup.) Thus, its Specific Vehicle Regulations are very liberal when compared to other automobiles in competition, purely for the purpose of equalizing the competition. Part of this equalization is through the use of tires as listed in the Specific Vehicle Regulations for the Mustang.

9-4 Horsepower and Weight numbers are generally based on numbers from Grand-Am’s vehicle specific regulations as well as from posted numbers on team websites and from personal contact with teams. Gran Turismo 5 is not without its flaws so these numbers have had to stray in some cases from real life.

9-5 Modifications listed are done in the spirit of real regulations. (The Grand-Am regulated need for OEM parts and placements, limits to suspension tuning, the mandate of OEM exhaust for cars using forced induction, the removal of catalytic converters and so forth.)

9-6 Specific Vehicle Regulations Appear in Post #2 for the purpose of easier reading.

9-7 There will not be a "horse for every course." Meaning, these cars are close to their street-going counterparts and thus have very different and ranging performance capabilities. Car track, wheelbase, suspension geometry, weight, horsepower, torque, drag coefficient vary radically from car to car and alter each automobile's performance capabilities. Choose your car wisely, I would like each entrant to select their car prior to competing in their first event and stick with the car to the end of the season.

Dude, HUGE props for posting a well though-out thread. A great example of how organized a GT5 online league should be! With that said:

just noticed that when i do the all the mods you have listed the z34 comes up short on HP. unless it gains that much after a break in period.

If you are only a couple horsepower off, you will get 397 within a couple sessions of testing.

its a brand new car, hence the breaking in of the engine

I've had to do an oil change on brand new car before to get it up to the right hp.

But no worries as Chris says.

And put me down in GS with Car unknown for now.

@Retro: Yeah, the Oil Change is a necessity to boost HP. But braking the engine in through testing is the key in this case.

I'm going to have to drop out of this guys, sorry. I'm cancelling our internet service tomorrow to try and put that money back into my pocket for the next few months.
 
it would be nice to be able to adjust our transmissions other than that the mustang is only slower by a little bit. if we could change trans setting it could be as fast as some of the other cars.
 
This was something I was thinking about doing a while back. I got around to building a Mustang, 370z and Z4 M, then I just never did anything else for some reason. No way I would have been able to do something that looks this great, though.

I'll likely sign up as a reserve, as I have a lot of things going on right now. No idea what car or class, but I'll get around to that. Even if I don't make any races, you have my full support.
