The Danica Drama

Most male drivers race all their career and never win. Her career may not not be successful in your eyes but she's done better than alot of men who have tried the sport. Most men would kill to have ONE win.

How much media attention do those male drivers get?

How much media attention do those male drivers get?

None. Because a as a man in auto racing you usually have to be a good or decent racecar driver to get media attention. Those who aren't don't get any. As a woman who has won in a mans sport, which has always been dominated by men, she is undoubtedly gonna recive mass media attention. She ain't the best but, better than alot. She also still has time to learn the car.

As a woman who has won in a mans sport,

That's debatable, yes she has a win, but at the same time she only gained 7 podiums and 3 poles total in her 7 years in IndyCar. Most drivers would have been ran out of town with those numbers, not given a top-tier ride in another series.

She ain't the best but, better than alot.

I'm not saying she's horrible, but far from great like the media makes her out to be.

She also still has time to learn the car.

As stated, she was in IndyCar for 7 years, they used the same Dallara chassis for all of them yet never really showed any major improvement.

Then why does only Danica get this amount of hype, and not Johanna Long, who beat her multiple times in inferior equipment? Oh that's right, she didn't sell herself in bikinis, so forgeddabout her completely. :dunce:

Sebastian Vettel has been outshined in lower series, himself.

I'm not one to say Danica is the best thing since sliced bread. Heck, perhaps she would come out no better than midfield if a Race of Champions "Women's edition" was held. But again, if you are a relatively good driver with a media-friendly image with the capability of using that image to bring in sponsorship money, it would be stupid not to use that to your advantage.

Is it any wonder that top flight F1 drivers do a lot of modelling for advertising?

She's great for sponsors. Every sponsor wants her because like you say she is a women in a mans sport. Now is she a good driver? No not really. She's good at tearing up the cars. But just imagine how much money the sponsors are making because of her media attention. Sponsors don't care if your good, obviously because they sponsor Danica. They just want to sell.

Sponsors definitely care if you're good. There are great looking Women's Tennis players out there, for example, but the ones who rake in the big endorsement bucks? The great looking ones who are actually top rank (within the top twenty) players.

Sex sells. But good-looking girls are a dime-a-dozen. Name recognition is a must. Anna Kournikova may have gotten more attention than many other tennis players, but being one of the top-ranked players during her career certainly helped put her in the limelight first.

Danica Patrick is a little different, in that there's no other woman driving in NASCAR. But the very fact that she can actually mix it up with men, despite the vast physical strength and endurance differential, means that she deserves props for keeping up.

I find it more amusing just how much her mere presence infuriates you, personally. They didn't even focus on her that much in the Phoenix race, spending far more time focusing on Mark Martin of all drivers and his struggles in the race, so what exactly is the issue? Do you just not want her in the field at all?

I also would point out that a discussion kinda needs two sides of an opinion to keep going, so when one of them fails to followup a response in the latest conversation it's only natural for a thread to stop running along regardless of if one of the sides wants to use the lack of thread activity as an immature jab at the people arguing against him instead of contributing, but eh.

Ya know, I was actually saying that Danica got pretty much brought back to the real world after heading to the first real race of the season - and suddenly her praisers didn't actually have a whole lot to say. Even I have the balls to admit that her wreck wasn't her own fault, but the lack of pace definitely was - I'd call that the biggest waste of a good seat in the decade. How come a Stewart-Haas driver can barely even beat a Front Row Motorsports driver, even though the former is driving for a championship-winning team from 2011, which has had multiple wins throughout its existence, and the latter is essentially racing for top 20 positions whenever enough drivers from the top or midfield go out of contention?

Her presence wouldn't infuriate me if she was qualified to race in the Cup. She isn't. She might even not make it for Vegas or Bristol if that terrible pace continues.

And I'm actually very proud of Mark Martin. To see a driver that old still compete for wins on tracks that actually require skill to navigate quickly... it's a heartwarming sight. He might not have a shot at that championship anymore as he's become a part-time driver, but he deserves all the attention he gets with that driving ability. Even a single win at this stage of his career would be huge, given that it would make some real history... nothing like "first woman to qualify on pole at a plate track where the car's performance is all that matters" or "first woman to finish in the top 10 in the aforementioned track which only requires you to avoid wrecks and have a fast car" or "first woman to lead a lap in a race ignoring the fact she didn't really have much competition in that restart due to having superior machinery to Michael Waltrip alongside her".

So your entire argument does basically boil down to how you don't want her in the Cup at all, because she doesn't "deserve" to be. Certainly explains a lot.

And on top of that:

Ya know, I was actually saying that Danica got pretty much brought back to the real world after heading to the first real race of the season - and suddenly her praisers didn't actually have a whole lot to say.
You're seriously pushing that argument? No one in this thread since it was bumped in the past month or so has been blindly showering Danica with praise, and it's pretty ridiculous that the only reason you keep posting in the thread is to say how wrong everyone is for acknowledging when she accomplishes anything while not bothering to respond to the things they are actually saying.

You want to see my posting history about Danica Patrick? Here you go. And have a bit more. So go ahead. Tell me more about how I'm a "Danica praiser" rather than just someone who would like her to be a better driver before she's showered with attention at the expense of others; but would legitimately like her to succeed.

Excuse me, could you yet elaborate, where did I, Carbonox, call you, Toronado, one of those Danica praisers?
