[NEW] Time Trial Overtake Challenge. Starring: BRZ, HSV, GT-R N24

These challenges are actually challenging. They remind me of the license tests before PD made them easier by removing collision penalties.

The BRZ and Weider handled excellently, had lots of fun with those two. đź‘Ť The GT-R though, ugh. I think the Tank Car handles better. Glad I didn't buy it. :yuck:

Nice change in pace from the norm.....wish it was a bit harder. Was able to beat all of them after a test run. Got to remember that GTR has no down force, to break early and let the 4WD pull you out of the corner for max speed and better times.

I've just finished all three events with Gold in each. They're relatively easy, apart from the last one, on the Nurburgring. What on earth is up with the handling of that car? It took me a few attempts before I could finally control it, and I won by over a second.

My best event was whilst driving the Honda Weider HSV 010, on Suzuka. I managed 104th on the leaderboard but after checking around ten minutes later, I had dropped to 106th. I'll have another go at it later to try and improve.

i think i was 37th yesterday, im probably down a couple 100 now, if not worse?

i don't care too much bout my ranking, as long as i get my ticket. i hope the pd server error is over.

Nissan GTR M Spec `01

I got a 1000 ticket. It's not a dedicated car?

On another note, I'm getting frustrated with the cars on nurb slowing down. Come into left right I close a tonne on the m3 then it slams the brakes on giving me little time o avoid. A couple times I've even passé the impreza before the left right at the bottom of the hill am it uses me as its brakes!

I feel like I'm in an online lobby at times. I'm passin the GTR over the hill into the right hander and its bouncing me of track almost deliberately :/

That stupid GTR is unpredictable to drive. It has oversteer under braking and when you stop braking it understeers like a brick. I must have done at least 20 tries on that and I couldn't get to the finish line. :( :(

So it handles like a GT-R?

With no ABS I usually run the brakes at 6 or 7 front and 2 or less in the back for those things. They're horrible under braking. My best results with the street version actually came at 8/0, but I only needed to go that far for the final section of the Ring. Not had a chance to run this yet so I don't know what part of the track it's on.

Won the first event pretty easy, but I'm struggling with the the right/left/right turns after the first corner. And the rest of the map for that matters.. Anyone got some setup tips? Right now I think I'm running with 4/9 BB. Comments and tips would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: My setup btw is: Everything off. Except ABS is 1.

This stupid event is unnecessarily difficult for controller users like me. I beat the BRZ challenge after a few tries, but I turn as hard as I possibly can in the HSV and GT-R but neither of them turn or are as responsive as people with their wheels. Ridiculous.

So?

They also were in Gt4 (driving missions), what;s your point?

I just remembered these kind of events in Forza 4, that's all.

TBH, I don't think GT4 would have disqualified you for scraping the barrier. đź‘Ž

What is the prize ticket?

I got a 1000 ticket, which provided me with a FT-86 Concept '10 - of somesort. It's a random selection of things you might win as others have won a GT-R.

I use a controller, too and it wasn't that bad. The HSV is one of the best handling cars you'll find. The only problem I had with Suzuka was being penalised for getting bumped by the opponents whilst overtaking. Just take your time with it, you should manage Gold no problem if you make sure you don't go into the turns too quick, otherwise you will overshoot.

The GT-R, however. That's a whole different story. At first I didn't have a clue how to use the thing. After a while you get used to it and learn to brake early and turn in smoothly. If you brake too late, you'll lose control. Don't try to take the AI going round a bend. Either take them going up to one just before the corner, or on the straights.

Other than that they're good fun and a fresh challenge. đź‘Ť

After Flugplatz, that Falken Skyline drives as if its driver was from Kerry.

I actually had to do quite a couple of restarts on Tokyo before I finally got gold, and also crossed the line in 1st. I was expecting the Suzuka one to be just as challenging, but managed to gold it on my first try (barely) while crossing the line in 2nd. The Honda handles well and is easy to drive fast.

NĂĽrb did take some time to gold, it was not that I didn't know where to find the missing 0,3s from my first finish, but to get a clean run with the twitchy GT-R and the AI which drives a little different every time.

I did it by braking early for the first chicane and taking a aggressive fast line through it, then passing the M3 on the inside of the following left hander. Then chase down the Viper to the twisty section, braking early and only in a straight line. Passing the Viper in the twisty section, and the Impreza in the right-left before the long downhill straight. Then chasing down the Falken Skyline and doing a risky pass on the left just before braking for Schwedenkreuz. Finished in 2nd and got gold.

And yeah, as DK said, the Falken is weaving all over the place on the straight before Schwedenkreuz, hence the risky pass. At least 1 of my fast runs ended in the armco because of that.

It seems like PD have finally realised the real meaning of 'challenge' Definitely more challenging than previous events although I've only done one run on each so far, hopefully I will find more time for them in the next couple of weeks :)

hardest part of the ring challenge is the inconsistent DQ detection. I could slam into a car and not get DQ'd then an AI car would every-so-gently brush my rear quarter panel as i flew past and i'd get DQ'd.... Oh well, i got all gold eventually.

Anyone else get some Suzuki economy car for their 1000 ticket? wtf?!

Gold on the Tokyo and Suzuka but the floating GTuRd is just, well.. too buoyant.

This is actually a great time trial. First two were pretty good. I was having trouble using that boat of a gtr on nurburgring to go around that damn falken gtr that would take up the whole road....lol. Finally got gold after a few tries.

Seems to be a good chance for me to decide whether or not i want to purchase these cars. Haven't done it yet of course, but it sounds just like the GT Academy challenges. Oh what fun they were.

Nice change of pace this event is. Golded the first two easily but the Nurburgring is a different story. Tried it for about 15 min. and quickly got fustrated with the car's handling. Will give it a try later when I'm a little more calmed down, lol.

I absolutely love how you can load ghost replays of everybody (especially friends) to compete against, not only the top-10 like usually.

I think PD is just warming us up! I hope overtake challenge 2 are full laps on long circuits like Nurb, Suzuka, Grand Valley, etc. Now that would be even more fun.

I would even go for a one lap sprint, like the S Licence tests.

I had a chance to run these tonight. Pretty fun and nice for a change, although they do once again highlight that PD isn't interested in representing what overtaking or proper racing behavior actually is.

It made for a nice chance to test drive the cars that I don't have as well. Probably didn't change my position on whether or not to buy them - I'm still interested in the HSV-010 but not so much the other two.

They didn't seem too difficult, although getting a perfect run is obviously a lot trickier with traffic. Oddly, the only one I had any trouble getting gold on was the BR-Z event. I got silver quickly but it took quite a few tries to get past first without losing too much time to get gold. The other two I got the gold in second place on my first finished attempt, even though it took just as much time as I spent on Tokyo to finally get past first place. I thought most people were saying it was the other way around.

I'm not sure what's supposed to be wrong with the GT-R, it handled just like I expected it to. It's a bit twitchy as I'd expect but nothing unusual, very fast though I don't remember now what tires it was on - I'd guess SS or RH. Certainly no different than any other modern street GT-R which are supposedly among the easiest cars for most people(except me) to drive fast.

I also absolutely love that you can download anyone's replay now, wished for that for a long time. It can be a little annoying the first few times you improve your lap, but after you get to a decent lap you don't improve all that often so it becomes less of an issue. Now I can only hope some of the people on my list run these so I can finally chase them.

Mr Doodles,
There was a video somewhere on you tube about when Kaz and his team took the GTR n24 to the nurburgring 24hr race (where they used crap tyres for the class they were in). In the video i remember them saying that they had trouble tuning the car and had to use different tyre compounds from front to back?

Spent some time on Suzuka and Tokyo today. 1:05.013 at Tokyo in 4th place and 1:12.466 on Suzuka in 21st place. I will give the GTR another go tomorrow.
