The RX-7 seasonal event.

I've given this a few runs, first I wasn't fully tuned to the max. I was nowhere near winning. Then upped the power to the 394bhp allowed with all three weight reductions making the car weight just over a ton. Still nowhere near winning.

Not that I can see it making much difference (because the 200kg I chopped off from stock made very little if any difference) but how on earth can you reduce the RX7 to around the 800kg allowable minimum for these events?

Also I was running 1:03's with terrible passage through all three hairpins because I wasn't on a good line or speed for any of them. I'm assuming given the 30-odd second margin that the leader won by that I'm needing to run 1 minute laps or less when in clean air. Something didn't really seem right though with how far off the pace I was. Whilst I can obviously go a lot quicker, I don't even think that will solve the problem. Something just seemed like it was missing.

As I say the first 200kilos I removed made no difference to the lap times anyway, and whilst I want the other 200kg off the car just for the sake of it, I don't see it as being the answer. I had clutch and flywheel upgrades as well.

Any ideas?

I'm with the rest of you guys, i tried my hardest and the best i could get was 6th! I had to de-tune my Spirit RA to about 384, but the weight is not even close to 800kg, and that's with every single weight modification don to the car.

I tuned the suspension an an LSD works well for keeping the rear in line but this challenge is demanding.

All weight reduction, rigidity, aero parts (downforce maxed), sports ECU, engine stage 2, sports intake manifold, racing air filter, catalytic converter sports, semi racing exhaust, full transmission (193 mph), semi-racing flywheel, carbon propeller shaft, full suspension.

Rocket to first place, revel in victory, smile.

I'd recommend all of the available modifications. tweaking the suspension and diff were essential for me. and sadly, the aids (TC and skid recovery) were worth about 1.5 seconds a lap for me, so they were essential too. Just remember your breaking points because going wide in those tight turns is worth alot of time on tsukuba. good luck.

posting up a youtube vid now since alot of people are struggling with this one. i found running 102s wasn't good enough so did a few tunes and started doing constant 59s and 1min laps and it was a breeze.

will edit this post and link to vid once its done.

for now here are the settings i used thanks to Synwraith

For those struggling (as I have been for who knows how long now) with the new RX7 event at Tsukuba, and are determined not to use Skid Recovery, here's what I used to get gold:

- Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02
- Stage 3 weight Reduction/windows/carbon hood (1051Kg)
- Rigidity Improvement
- Added all aero parts (set to 0/28)
- Fully custom transmission (set to 193mph)
- Sports Intake Manifold + Racing Air Filter
- Sports ECU + Stage 2 Engine Tuning (394 HP)
- Catalytic converter + Titanium Semi-racing exhaust
- Fully custom Suspension (Ride Height -20/-20, Springs 16.0/6.3, Dampers 10/5, 10/5, ARB 4/4, camber 2.0/2.0, toe 0/0)
- Twin clutch plates + Carbon propeller shaft + Semi-racing flywheel
- Brakes set to 8/9
- Tyres were Sports Hard as standard
- ABS 1, TC 0, SRF off, ASM off, Driving line off
- MOST IMPORTANTLY - painted the car Matte Yellow :D

I know it's a great deal of cash to spend, but I wanted the car anyway due to amazing fun had in GT5 Prologue, I wanted it in yellow, and I wanted a souped up one regardless. This was a perfect excuse and bloody hell it was all very necessary to win this race.

What you will find is that if you're getting a good deal out of the car you should be running 1'00.xxx laps all the way through, best lap here was 1'00.000 but 59s are easily do-able even without Skid Recovery, ASM, TCS etc. You will typically knock about 3 seconds per lap off the leading Skyline and on lap 10 he catches the Fairlady Z backmarker that slows him down a LOT and you will make up much more time on Lap 10. On the exit of the corner that leads onto the back straight on lap 10 I got really out of shape and on the grass, but still managed to re-pass the SKyline into the last corner.

That was a mega challenge, and you end up with a killer RX-7 tuned to the back teeth at the end :)

Remember....YELLOW.

Hope this helps a fella or two 👍

All the best
Maz

There is a big difference in performance between the different RX7s. I tried for ages with a 90 model. Then won first time with the Bathurst model, so much better.

Other than the custom suspension and the setup, I'm running it as above. It's not the '90 model It's the "best" premium one you can buy, 40,000Cr I think, no idea what it's called.

Odd as I've never found setups make any real difference except when you need to use one in order to stop a car just sliding off like it's on ice in a full speed corner like the third bend at Fuji.

I'll give it a go, but because the car is 200kg overweight kind of tells me that this isn't the car that you're meant to use. The fact that it drives like a sack of crap doesn't make the event any more enjoyable either.

Edit: It seems I've unfortunately picked one of the hardest seasonal events to start off with. I think I'll go drive something a bit more bearable and come back to this one last if it's still available.

i really do suggest trying to setups i used, watch a bit of the vid, the car is fairly easy to get used to once you give it a few goes. if you must, turn on skid recovery.

you can fling it into the corners and control it out fairly easily, if you see in my vid thats what i do.

you should easily manage 1min times doing that.

The guide above was very helpful. Came 2nd, can easily see how 1st is possible. Was really struggling with one from the online dealership

I used the RX7 Spirit '02. Every upgrade possible, top speed at ~130mph, min. ride height, max. rear downforce, was running low 0.59s and overtook the Skyline just before the Dunlop bridge on the last lap

Before i found the right RX7 i was getting desperate and doing a handbrake turn at the very start and went full power towards that damn Skyline in the hope of destroying it. I failed but it's an idea for anyone if they think they can force it into the pits at the very start and then play catch up with it out the way!

I tried that setup and i didnt like it very much. The camber setup is good but, the springs and dampers are completely backwards from what makes sense.

When you lower the weight of the car so much, in theory there is no need to raise the spring rates, in fact it might be a good idea to lower it a bit. Also i tried to tune out the under steer and raising the front spring rates and dampers only makes under steer worse.

what i did was leave the springs as is and raise the rear dampers a few clicks and the rear sway bar 1 click. Also added .2 front toe out.

Here is another tip to those of you that feel like you are not gaining fast enough.. The GTR laps the Toyota supra that is running in 12th and gets stuck behind the 300zx each and every time. So the last lap or so he is driving much slower than usual.

I also tried it with the FC and failed running a best of 1.01 or so. With the '02 i was running 0:59 - 1.01 consistently and won by several seconds.

This may be my biggest "I'm an idiot moment", my stocker was 286hp, and I thought the lint was 294hp.
I'll add some power and see what happens.

never learned the option of skid recovery until today

with no aids, i could only manage 1:00.3xx and consistantly under 1:01.000 for all laps and i came best of 3 car lengths behind first place......which was.....quite ridiculous

saw some posts around and learned this skid option......put it on and BAM! 58.xxx every lap

this option is like a cheat to me.....takes out the fun in driving the car but whatever

My second attempt I got second, but for some strange reason the skyline beat me by 15 seconds, it was weird as hell, he was like so far out in front that it made no sense, because there were two cars ahead of me and it said I was in 3rd place, then I cross the finish line and it says 2nd place....that is a WTF moment. Something glitchy happened there, will attempt it again. That was a fun rip to the head of the pack, stupid rolling road blocks. Some cars on straights are a pain to catch, but I do a little drift at the final corner to carry more speed into the corner then throttle back and power out.

No that's because the Skyline overlapped the last guy (supra?). So you also overlapped him.

Golded it first try after some tuning adjustments. The main things were to lower the top speed of the tranny waaaay down (127, I think), maximize toe out (-1/-1) for quick turn-in, and turn off ASM.

I bought the RX7 from the Dealership (the one with the nice wheels) and tuned it to 384hp without an oil change.

Just keep trying to slipstream and slide through the inside through the corner to overtake. If you are finding it difficult then turn skid recovery ON.

Try to get the first lap between a 1:00:9xx 1:01:3xx.

Then try to get the next lap under a minute.

On the last lap you should see the car in front going through the first turn, this means you should be able to overtake him.

My best was 6 seconds off P1 by the finish, best lap was a 1'00.5XX, mostly 1'01's though, no SRF either. Again, I think I'll be turning on the "Laptime Recovery Force" option just to clear this event, get the cash & exp points. I have to say that the RX-7 '02 (Premium car) is awesome to drive on this power/weight set up.
