2011 Charger... 2 door?

Not sure how American cars are perceived here, so I'll take a stab at finding out. :)

Also, I hope this even qualifies as appropriate for this forum, as I do a lot of this, but I'm not ever sure where I would post it. :dunce:


Now that the Dodge Charger has gone the "retro" route in styling,

Do you think a two door would be a viable option, or would it just hurt Challenger sales?


I did a couple of Photoshop concepts to get an idea of what it would look like.

Not a great idea, no. For one thing...the stupid Chally weighs about as much as the Charger...really, I'd prefer a Charger to the Challenger for the extra rear doors.

then there's the fact that it really doesn't look all that great. Just like there's doors missing somewhere, It's not so much a coupe as it is a 2-door Sedan.
 
That would just cut into Challenger sales. Plus, the Challenger is the better looking car and does the whole retro-modern thing much better.
 
It should have been 2 doors from the start, but the Challenger has filled that gap, which is upsetting because it doesn't look as good. It does drive better (slightly) however, so it's for the best.

What Dodge really needs is something between the Viper and Challenger. A sports car just below the supercar class like the base C6 Vette. They could also possibly project such a car downwards into the S2000/350Z range of performance.
 
If they made at SRT version of the two door they might as well call it the Dodge GT-R, you know since the SRT looks like a GT-R and an Evo X mated.
 
To me, a Challenger is a two door Charger. Plus, if they made that, I think they can kiss the Challenger goodbye

Since when is the Charger "retro" in any way besides its name?


They changed the tail lights, the hood, the quarter panels, and added the side scallops to mimic the '69 & '70 Charger.


I didn't think the previous Charger looked retro in any way.

And the new retro tag, is Dodge's label, not mine. ;)

Indeed. If anything, it is less retro now than the previous car was.

I think the only retro thing about the new car is the tail-light section. That's about it. If anything, I feel like the new Charger is one of those few examples where the car looks worse in person than it does in photographs. Especially when compared to its chassis-mate, the Chrysler 300.
 
First off, if Dodge were to do a retro version of the Charger they'd be best served to do it with the styling of a '68 / '69.

If they were to make a retro-Charger for the '68 as they did for the '70 Challenger, they wouldn't be able to keep the car stocked. They would sell like hotcakes.

With that said, in 1999 I went to a car show in DC and took some pics of this car. If they do a two door version and it's not "retro", this is the way to go.

My opinion that look's alot uglier than what we have now. Basically an 1995 Avenger with concept re-styled body panel's. The new Charger isn't horrible, nicer than the new restyled 300 at least but it doesn't fit the name Charger.
 
The charger will always be a sedan thanks to the police.

Minus the blingy wheels, it doesn't look too bad.

What was the main sales-driving differential between the original Chargers and Challengers? They were both coupes, so was it displacement/power? If so, I don't see why Dodge couldn't make a substanitally faster Charger coupe in a lower volume run to sit just below the Viper in price and performance.
 
Thing is though, if the Charger and Challenger could co-exist then, then surely they can now? Just have one as the 'halo car', and the other as the affordable, basic car.
 
Cant compare the days of the late 60's. Coupes was everywhere. Its a Reason why There isnt a Monty Carlo anymore.

But hey... The LX cars are said to be moving to the C-Evo Platform made by Chrysler/Fiat, and they said the Charger will Shrink. if they would do a 2 Door Coupe, it would be a Direct competitor to the CTS/6 Series/E Class Coupes. But what would Chrysler have?? I would rather Chrysler have a 2 Door Coupe based off the 300 Than a Charger Coupe.. would put Chrysler right in the game of the CTS and German "Personal" Coupes..... Call it the Cardoba....

Bring the rear end towards the front and lift the back end like the CTS-V coupe. It'll look great.
