Sad news for all you Lightning fans. It's in the game, but the developers messed up.
It's tire-smoking, power-sliding FR in real life, but 4WD in the game.
I never even noticed in the dealer section, but later I was racing the Beginner 4WD Series, and was surprised to see the Lightning was one of my opponents.

Wow. thats got to be fixed for the other releases. thats a big mistake.
I guess we'll see.

have you raced with the lightning? or any other truck? how do they handle? i´ve seen a few screens of a dogde ram that looked like a beast going after a lancia... don´t know if the trucks are really good...

EMAIL KY!!!!1

lol. for real though....does polyphony have an email address to bring this to their attention?

that is indeed a massive mistake. its oversights like this that really do need to be pointed out to PD so that they might be able correct this for US and European releases. This and 2player tuned car battles. I tried finding an email addy for PD or KY, but it was a no go on google(didnt try super hard though)

Grr this bothers the hell out of me. I was lookin forward to the Lightning and they made it something it isn't. How could something so major be overlooked so easily :ouch: 👎 I'm a big Ford fan, mainly Focus and Mustang, but it would have been nice to drive a Lightning ACCURATELY as I won't be driving one forreal, well, ever lol.

But I also would like to know how the trucks drive. Sloppy and heavy? It seems like they would in comparison to the cars, but I'm sure the Lightning is no slouch, especially with it's new found 4wd capabilites :yuck:

Doesnt the lighting have a 4x4 drive option like some trucks and suvs? This is a minor mistake anyone, only one vehicle, no big deal.

Yeah, what CobraGT said. Maybe it's just me, but I don't really feel right with a rear-drive truck. Sure, the Daihatsu Midget D-Type was a small truck with RWD, but I don't mind 4WD. I'm not really expecting to endurance race with Le Mans sportscars... in a pickup truck. So while it is weird for it to get 4WD in this build, I'm not [seriously] bothered.

The real Lightning had no 4WD option, to keep weight down. Same reason why it was only available as a regular cab.

Back to the game - Just drove the Lightning, Ram 4x4, and Tacoma X-Runner on back-to-back laps around the Ring. ASM off, TCS on. Unscientific results:

Lightning 8:51
Tacoma: 8:53
Ram 9:05

The Ram and Lightning understeer massively, but you notice it a lot more on the Lightning, because it's faster. You run out of track a lot quicker. The back ends stay planted solid on both. The Ram feels much larger than the others, almost like maneuvering a bear through a mouse maze.
The Tacoma also understeers, but not nearly as much as the other two. And it's correctly programmed as an FR truck. You can't break the tail loose, but the back wheels don't feel like they're bolted to the track as they do on the others. Being the smallest of the 3, it handles the best. The 6-speed gearbox also works to its advantage.

No 4x4 option on the lightning. I got to drive one for a few days as my dad works for a ford dealership. It was the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle. Still much prefer cars though :)

Nope. TCS only activated on the long straight, when the bumps unsettled the suspension.

There's a lot of incorrect info on the web just waiting to be found by Google.
Every Lightning ever made was rear-wheel-drive.

As far as the game, I turned TCS off, and floored the gas from a stop.

Ram: bogs down pretty bad; takes a couple seconds to get moving
Lightning: drops immediately to 1000 RPM and takes off with no wheelspin
Tacoma: smoky burnout

Try the Lightning with TCS off, Hold the Brake button down, then floor the gas and when the revs reach the top continue to floor the gas and then release the brake. (AKA Powerbrake) The lightning should spin the tires until the cows come home. If not, shame on you PD.👎

That's kind of sad. I personally lit up the tires on a Lightning across an entire intersection one night in the middle of nowhere, and finally just let off so they would stop spinning. Didn't take any effort either.

Okay.. there are other tests to do, you know.. try installing a VCS system. Beef the car up and throw Sim tires on there.. there are ways to get even the weakest cars to burn out. And that's really the only way you'll know for sure if the car is actually 4WD.

The spec screen might say one thing, but what if that's all that's wrong? What if it's a typo? Then there'd certainly be no need to be going totally berserk about it.

I remember being mad in gt3 that the audi TT was only front wheel drive, even though it had quattro in its name. Anyone else remember that?

Doesn't matter how you launch it, no wheelspin.
And the 4WD deal is more than a typo. It means you can't enter into any FR races, as well as having the truck turn up where it doesn't belong in 4WD races.

Whatever...I guess there's nothing we can do about it. It's not going to change for the US release.

True, it's more than a typo, but it may well be less than the problem that you're saying. Beef it up and spin the tires. It's the only way to be sure. And at that point, who cares what the spec sheet says? A pickup truck is not a racing machine... You'd do far better to use something a little faster and more maneuverable.. there's got to be a hundred vehicles in each category that could fit that bill.

To me, I'd sure like to rally race with trucks. I don't feel real comfortable rally racing a rear-wheel drive machine (Lancia Stratos, for example) in off-road conditions. I think you already get that rear-wheel drive oversteer in a 4WD machine, coupled with the great traction of a front-drive car. This is the ultimate staple for rally racing machines. But when you have a rear-drive car, you get the oversteer down, and as much as you need to induce drift. My only deal is, trying not to put in too much drift to the point where you spin out. So maybe the trucks could be made for both rally and road racing. Hell, take a pickup to Green Hell (Nurburgring Nords.) and see how you do there!

Well, if we're going to be technical about it, the Lightnings only came with an automatic tranny and the Cobras only came as a stick shift. I'd bet there'd be a bunch of people complaining about being "forced" to use one tranny over the other if they were to get that realistic though. I imagine they made the Lightning 4WD so it could be used in rally races along with other trucks, but who knows.

Yamauchi-san would never knowingly change the drivetrain of a car. It's just one that slipped by them.

:grumpy: That stinks! :grumpy: They were probably too busy getting all of there Japaneese cars created and threw the Lightning in there at the last minute. I'd rather they not even put it in the game if they cant do it right. And if it cant burn up the tires in the game like some of you are saying, that is disapointing. 👎 Ive seen a lightning burn up the tires with ease, I know, a guy on my street drives one!

yeah mate, that is true, but if you haved installed that VCD (?)
(by tuning --> weightreduction, and then 2 to the left) op-tion, you have 4wd!!
