Are we finally happy to have an affordable, rear-wheel drive car with a Hemi, or were we spitting into our car magazines because of the blasphemey? Welcome to the debate of the new Charger sedan.

I didn't know what the car looked like, so I did an google search. One model looked like an Camaro 4dr with Dodge grill. Other one looked like an Dodge Magnum 4dr. I don't like either design and they remind me of how Pontiac messed up with their GTO(I call them the 2dr Grand Prix GT).

I think the Magnum looks 100% better then it. The car just looks weird for some reason or another. On the other hand I think that the 300C is by far one of the nicest cars I've seen in a long time.

agree, want a FR sedan with a hemi get a 300C wait for great incentives at end of the model year. Spend the same money it would cost to get a "charger" now.

Honestly, I think it is repulsive. Mopar affecianados are seriously disappointed, I'm sure. I mean 4-door, no coupe or manny-tranny option. But then again, who make a manual anymore? (Please note the sarcasm in that statement.)

I certainly prefer the Charger to the outgoing Intrepid. Having had to deal with the completely unmanageable engine bay of the Intrepid has given me a lot of appreciation for the new FR layout.

Not to mention, just as local Dodge/Chrysler dealerships haven't been able to keep 300C's and Magnums in stock, I think the Charger will do just as well so long as the price undercuts the 300C's enough. After all, the big complaint about the Magnum was that there was no sedan.

And who said Dodge doesn't plan on making a coupe? They've never said it wasn't in the plans and have remained very coy about the possibility. Mostly the problem has been Mercedes is very worried about a Charger/300C coupe cutting into CLK sales.

At first I didn't like it, but I'll admit it is growing on me. My number one quirk with the car is not the fact that it has 4 doors, it is the damn bulbous arc of the top of the grille. It makes the car look dopey. If they could have made that more agressive looking, it would have added more character to the car.

I did a few photochops of the render and, at least tried to, color match them using Mopars Hi-Impact color palette. I think they should offer these colors, I mean it wouldn't hurt sales, it might actually help them. But here is what I came up with.

Somebody named "Suzq044" over on Chargerforums.com photoshopped at 69 Charger's grille onto the image. Naturally I expanded on that and chopped a General Lee. I have a link to the page, but his images have been replaced with the familiar red X's. So here is the link. And here are my versions.

I think the grille conversion would make the car look wicked, and would be nice if an aftermarket company actually produced a conversion kit. This car, like it or not, will sell. It will be for those who want the agressiveness of a Magnum without the wagon look, but don't like the luxuriousness of the 300C.

My peev is the car itself. It should have stayed in the grave, or at least used a style somewhat similar to the mustang, which actually has styling cues. this thing is just plain ugly. and who gives a damn if it's got a hemi?

i think the magnum should have got its own sedan version, with the 4.7 liter V8 as an option instead of the HEMI (to keep separation from the 300) and the HEMI as a hella expensive option. that would have left room for the charger to be a big coupe, while still giving dodge a big rear wheel drive sedan and coupe tandem.

i think reusing a historic name should only be done when the new car carries on the legacy of its ancestor.

I saw a Magnum, and thought that it looked amazing!

I would've preferred Dodge come out with a Coupe and a Sedan model of the Charger.

Gturismo1: Wow! That looks so much better. The only thing I'd change would be to make the sides rounder, ie; (---) vs. |---|
I don't see why they went ahead calling it a Charger. Enthusiasts seem to generally hate it, and the general public doesn't care.

I like it quite a bit. I'd think it was awesome if they called it a Magnum sedan. The only thing I don't like is the name.

Honestly, although everyone's seemingly getting fed up with retro, I think that would of been the way to go with the Charger. Either way, if the concepts are true to what the Charger will look like, I don't like the cosmetics. The HEMI definitely belongs in it though.

Does anyone else think the new Charger looks more like the old 300 cars then the new 300 car? I mean compair the front of the Charger to the 1957 300D... The forward leaning grill with the dual headlights... The similarities are remarkable...

As for my thoughts on the new Charger... I think they shoud have made a Magnum Sedan and did the Charger as a coupe only, and it should have looked more like Gturismo1's General Lee pic... But it has a Hemi and its RWD so at least they didn't do what Chevy did to the Impala SS, A FWD Impala SS?? Come on now...

I like the Charger! Although the Coronet might have been a more appropriate name to resurrect for a 4-door, does that really have the same ring? No. Super Bee? Only hardcore fans would even get it, just like the Ram Bee today. I can't get all worked up about it - the new Charger will be a good car. It's not like the awful Mustang II or the pathetic '80s versions of the Chevy Nova and Pontiac LeMans. OK, it's got 4 doors, big deal. Some people freak out about that but I'll ever understand it. Sedans are more useful anyway.

And speaking as a person who owns a '67 LeMans and used to own a '68 GTO, I never understood the hatred for the new GTO also. Old GTOs were nothing to look at originally, either. Check out a '64 or '65: snoresville. The new GTO is a quiet looker with hidden power, just like the old one.

I'm not a big fan of it's looks. The front end just doesn't work. It would also have made more sense to make a two door as this will compete with the 300c.

Here is just an idea which I am sure you all have seen before. For a while it was proposed that this was the new Charger. This is Kris Horton's Charger Concept, which is clearly based on the older styles. The most controversial part of this car was, of course, the grill, which many likened to a Stratus. Not the best look, but better than current.

Aside from the questionable styling cues (especially that hideous front end), I think that car is going to be great! 5.7-liter 340 horsepower V8 with 390 lb.ft. of torque is enough to make me forget about its styling.

Here is the chop by Suzq044 with the '68 Charger Grille, all I did to it was make it four-door, and added the fog lights.

Here is my take on an actual body kit that could be made with the existing Charger. I figure if this is what we're getting, might as well make a plausible body kit chop. This took me about an hour to make, I decided to ditch the bulb-like arc and narrow down the main grille. Then I decided to make the bottom air dams taller, give it a more muscular look, like the Cobra Mustang.

I decided to make this chop because the Suzq044 one above isn't too plausible. The headlights would not fit behind the grille, and you would have to design new headlights, and a mechanism to move the grille away from them. Plus I doubt the DOT would approve it given the whole daytime running light issue. So I went ahead thinking how could I make this car have a "Charger-like" grille, but still incorporate the original headlamps. This is what I came up with, the JRB Concept. I'm new at photoshop so forgive the errors in the picture.

Here is the original 1999 Dodge Charger Concept that started this controversy. Everyone believe DCX would build something similar to this. Fans were shocked to recieve a bulky, tall looking car, instead of a streamlined beauty like the 1999 Concept.

Not one day after my post of the Hi-Impact color chops, Dodge announces that they will be making a limited run of a Charger Daytona in Go Mango and Top Banana. Link below.

Well I can't really complain, its what I wanted...lol. But I just never expected them to actually do it. Patiently awaiting Plum Crazy and Sublime :D

On MotorWeek once, I seen how this machine will look. At first, I was a little skeptical about how it looks, about as much as I've given to the Corvette C6. But as someone once said, if a car looks like crap at first, that's why you look to the aftermarket. Because then, you can mess up the car to your liking.

But looking at this new Charger, I don't think it's a disappointment. I don't know if the 2005 Ford Mustang was a big trendsetter for car designers to flashback, but it's certainly looking that way. Knowing a thing or two about fashion, I know that when something hot comes onto the runway, thousands of other designers will want to take part of this fashion trend and try to outdo the trendsetter. So what kind of fashion statement is the Dodge Charger? It's a very good one, in fact, I'd rate it an 8.5 out of 10. Recent Dodges have been more about aggression. I remember the changes made to the Dodge Ram apart from the late 1990s Rams. The new Ram is still a badass machine to see or own on the road. This new Charger actually isn't all that bad stylewise. A lot of my focus on cars is about style, and this car's styling isn't too bad. Part of almost any car's overall look is like this math problem:

(inspiration or original design) + (corporate face) = (new car's styling)

Personally, I would have seen the Dodge Corporate face below the headlights like the Dodge Viper and not in chrome, but other than that, I kind of like it.

That's just creeepy as hell that that happened, but very cool. Add some striping here, a spoiler there, some airdams, and viola!! It's a new car! But is it any different performance wise, or is it all cosmetic?

Edit: Love how they subdued the grill, but it still kinda looks like a chunky, rounded shoe-box.

Christ-on-a-bike! - that new Charger sure is ugly, its like an ugly 300 - and thats really saying something! What is it with those tiny side windows and chunky frames.

I still think it's badass. I like it completely. And The Cracker, high belt lines have been increasing in popularity for years - windows have been getting smaller and smaller. Look at the Honda products by generation from, say, 1989 to 2003. In time lapse you could watch the doors grow and the windows shrink.

I read that it has 10 more horsepower under the hood. Nothing substantial, but it sets it apart from a stock Charger R/T. I'm sure they could have squeezed more out of the engine, but I suppose they don't want to tread into SRT-8 numbers with the 5.7L. Can't wait for the 6.1L version 👍
