Alright. I normally wouldn't do this sort of thing, but I'm getting no votes this week at all. I know the reason too, but I can't do anything about it. Plain and simple, I picked the wrong picture.

I asked for opinions from family members and although helpful, they didn't have a grasp exactly on the theme. I realize that even though I picked a really great picture, it doesn't showcase the theme very well. After a long discussion over the final two we'd narrowed it down to, my father and I had decided to with the Garaiya pic.

As soon as the polls went up I realized that my picture was great but it didn't represent the theme like some of my other pictures had. So I am posting this thread in hopes of self-redemption, please... cast your votes and confirm that I'm not crazy.

I know which one I think I should have put in, but lets see if that one truly would have been more popular. So go ahead and vote away. Also, any and all comments on each piece are welcomed.

I wouldn't sweat about it too much if I were you, but I prefer your first pic... the pic you chose is a bit dark, and you can't tell it's Suzuka either.... but you can't expect to do brilliantly every week... you have won this competition once already and it's only week six!... my best effort has only got one vote so far this week :indiff: , but I'm just glad it is even in the poll, and so should you be...

... I'm sure we all think are own pictures are great (although modesty usually prevents us from saying it... :sly: ), but it's not what we think that's important, is it? If (like me) you're not getting many votes, you surely have to give some credit to the quality of the other pictures...?

One reason I skipped by your picture was the fact that your framing crams the car up into the top corner. It seems kinda claustrophobic - needs room to breathe! The muted color makes it look realistic, but also leaves it looking kinda drab next to the colorful JGTC cars in other entries. From the pics in your poll, I'd bet the ferris wheel pics and Pitwork Z on the grid would get some votes. But of course, they might not have made it into the top 20, who knows...

I honestly don't think people give a rat's ass about the theme when they vote, dori. They look for a picture that grabs their attention: flying pylons, bright colors, flames and shiny things, drifting... whatever you can squeeze under the current theme. The trick seems to be getting into the top 20 on the opinion of someone who does care about the theme (which I hope to do someday!), and then having an attention-grabbing picture that will get some votes from people who don't care about the theme.

Even more importantly, I don't think it's worth stressing over. You can't win every week, and most of us aren't even making the top 20. Congrats for getting that far... 👍

Nail on the head, bro.

The way I see it, if you want to win, take the guidelines and just throw everything in with it that you can. People are like monkeys, we like attention grabbing things that keep us interested. Now what'd I do with my banana? *Swings away on a vine*

people like to pick high contrast and colourful entries imo ...
that's why my 5 mins average attempt can get a few vote ...
I have to agree Crack said about not enough room to breath
or maybe the style you shown not too appealing by comparing other entries
yours are more focusing on car (not much background) ...
but comparing DRT2RM, 440 entry ... their entry more stand out honestly

I would suggest to look back all the past winners and running ups, figuring out people's tastes ... or try something good looking but nobody done yet

It's just my rookie suggestion ... don't take it seriously :)

I completely agree about most voters not taking into account the theme and looking for a photo that just stands out. I had a lot of photos that showed more of the track/ferris wheel to show it was Suzuka, but from the past competitions, I noticed that more people vote for photos that stand out more. I figured my current C-West Silvia photo entry would stand out since it's against a plain background and would attract more votes.

There are those who understand the theme and photo composition and there are those who don't care and just look for something "pretty". So it's difficult to capture one photo to suit both interests.

CrackHoor stated it best :

I can't decide!!

I wasn't keen on the framing of your submitted image, although I liked the idea. Bottom ferris wheel is one of my favourites of that ilk. I like brighter images generally, although if you go too far with it the cars tend to look a bit 'cartoonish' - not always desirable.

There's always next week...

my favourite shot of those is the 4th with the small ferris wheel in the background, but I'd say the one that grabs me the most is the last - it's a cheap shot that milks the ferris wheel for all it's worth but it does work and to many I think it would be the stand out of that lot.

totally agree with votes not matching the theme, when I did my shots I ended up going for in-your-face shtos with lots of colour - I'd would have liked to have seen how mine would have fared against the current poll leaders.

Hey Dori I liked the photo you entered in the PMC but I like the first one more than the other you used. (Voted for it and wasn't suprised by the results)

My last entry followed the theme to the letter - maybe too much!... Didn't make the last 20. Tried something different with Suzuka...
I thought I'd avoid Suzuka cliches this time and concentrate on getting a striking image - doesn't break the rules - might be risky if the judge doesn't think it says "JTGC cars at Suzuka".
I know where you are coming from though Brock, I was just after something to stand out from the crowd.
