4.5 V8 in a 350Z, I like it already. Does Nissan have a 4.5 currently? I think they need to work on the appearance a bit though. I love the 350Z's style, but this needs something to set it apart as the better car.

Yes, its offered in Nissan President, Cima and Fuga. Also Infiniti Q45, M45 and FX45.

Well it certainly is interesting, i dont see why they should change the name though, i know 350 = 3.5ltr so it would be 450 = 4.5ltr - but the car looks merely identical shape! i mean they didnt change the skyline from R32 - R33 - R34 because of engine size did they?

use google and search for nissan r32 and r34
sure the r33 looks allmost like the r34 but it´s a BIG diffrence between r32 and r34

Nissan did change the name alittle on some R32,33,34 models due to engine size for example,

R32 GTSt (2litre turbo)
R32 GTS25 (2.5litre non turbo)

But the R32,33,34 names were not based on engine size like the Z's have been (Except for rare occasions like above)

Z's
240Z =2.4
260Z =2.6
280ZX =2.8
300ZX =3.0
350Z =3.5

so 4.5 Litre would have to be 450Z to stay in tradition.

The 350Z has a V6 not a V8 mate. Also this is a design for a 450Z not a 350Z.

Wasn't the first z car an inline 6? Why not a v8 if they have v6's. Turbos were never part of z history until they made it part of it.

Screw heritage, why should they hold back from making what could be a great car? I see a bit of 300zx in the c pillar (I think it's the c pillar at least).

Plus with the gtr possible coming out soon I don't see this as a likely production model.

if they do make a 450z, then the supposed new skyline probably wont make it to the U.S.
that or itll be an infiniti.
man 420hp from nissans 4.5 v8 sounds nice, might want that instead of a '03 Cobra.

Looks like 350Z a lot, nothing radical things changed. I think that it's too simple because Nissan makes allways really radical changes on cars.

But bout' the engine, that sounds good. 4,5 litre V8 some muscle on japanese car, but if i were Nissan's technichal leader or something, i'd do something more radical changes.

And to next 550Z.. 1900 kg's, 6,5 litre V12 and a real big car, something like Mercedes SL 600 and Audi A8, a car for muscle car sections.

The engine won't be the only difference, the article also states that the 450Z will be a 4WD.

I would think the 4.5 L engine would go into the Infiniti G-series (aka G45)--probably with auto only--to further differentitaite it from the GT-R. One is a sports car, one is luxury coupe.

Maybe that means that GT-R proto comes out,and if this 450Z comes out too,maybe the New GT-R proto will be much more powerful:something like 450Z having 420HP,and GT-R having...600 HP?

Maybe Nissan is trying to make the Z series into "a sports car for masses" and GT-R into a "alternative supercar",for those who are rich,but want to try something different from Porsche and Ferrari.

Just my $.00.02.

Why does Porsche sell a 911, a Boxster, a Cayman, and a GT2 (and a few more) that all have aessentially the same engine and a similar chassis?

The answer is choice: the consumer likes choice.

Even if I have the extra money, given the choice between a low-tech RWD V8 450Z and a high-tech AWD GT-R twin turbo V6, I would take the V8. Even if the GT-R is a faster, more powerful, and more luxuroius car.

And that is why both can coexist in the market.

Yeah but skip cars arent like candy. They are expensive so usually people buy one or two and then stick with those for a couple of years. The cayman and boxster are basically the same thing and the gt2 is just a hopped up version of the 911 hence its real name is 911 gt2.

Maybe they should take their 5.6 litre, tune it for horsepower, slap a couple of turbos on it, drop it in the new GT-R.

That should differentiate it from the Z.

If you look at two of Nissan's car that have both the 3.5L and 4.5L engines, you'll see that going from the V6 to the V8 only raises the weight of the vehicle about 100lbs. Thats far from a drastic weight jump. And, given how the "FM" chassis that the Z uses puts the engine slightly behind the front axle, it wouldn't be a huge change. You'd basically go from a 53/47 weight distribution, up to 54/46 front to rear. Thats not much, and shouldn't be a big concern.

On a side note, I think this would be a nice option. Nothing wrong with having choices. If you want the lighter, slightly more nimble version, get a 350. But, if you want a little more grunt, and don't mind the slight bump in heft, get the 450. If this car does turn out to be real, and we do get a V8 Z, I'm all for it.

Mmmmmm...a V8 Z car. I love the 350Z over the G35/Skyline. The Z just has more style vs the current Skyline. And the new GT-R prototype is hideous...I'd rather own a blue R33 GT-R Vspec over any other Skyline.
