Important notices:
To streamline the WRS administration process, all required replays for this race must be submitted within 7 days. This thread will be listed as "Provisional" and will become "Official" once all posted replays have been verified. After 7 days, all drivers who fail to provide a requested replay will have their lap disqualified. (Beware: disqualification isn't taken lightly within the WRS.)
Drivers who do not have a submitted lap posted in the results are not to post any information related to a laptime they might have achieved in the results thread. Any such posts will have the times removed.

Replay Verification Requests:
This week we would like to see replays for all indicated results. All replays are to be posted here.

Instructions on how to upload your replay can be found here - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3180607&postcount=2

Replay Checking:

 1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
 2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
 3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
 4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

D1 par 1'16.6? :scared:

As I expected, I failed to improve any, but happy enough for a podium despite a poor result to handicap.

Great win Baron, very impressive too Lou with ds3

And Chris, well, as well. I'm a bit clueless where my ability went, I got .926 in my first 40 mins (after break in)but barely got any further in a few hundred miles!

Congrats all, fun week

PS: great first d3 result, Mitch ;)

Guess I didn't do so bad. Almost pulled an even handicap with a car that wasn't fully broken in. Better than I expected really.

Congrats to the winners and podium finishers.

Thanks Matt :), very happy with my performance this week and very happy (and relieved :sly:) to take the win. Great racing Andrew. 👍

Congratulations to all this week - very tricky track with a tricky little car.

On a slightly less cheerful note... Its not usually my wont to complain but I'm forced to question the handicap calculation this week. This was one of the best laps I feel I've done in the WRS and I didn't even come close to my handicap..? I think this may be something to do with it:

(Settings: Weight = 1.000 Squeeze = 2.457 Scoot = -0.467)

I can guarantee that a 1'16.6 is impossible - I left 1 tenth out there and there was probably a possible 2 or 3 at a push (if you're Ramon for example).

This is the results curve this week:

week116resultscurve.jpg

I think it shows clear dominance from myself and Andrew. It reminds me of this result:

week89chart.jpg

...in which Wes had a ridiculously low handicap and (Settings: Weight = 1.000 Squeeze = 1.129 Scoot = 0.191)

I realise that this is statistics and that the machine chucks out numbers which Vaxen just takes but there has to be some basis in reality and each result must stand up in comparison to other events and results.

If I sound a bit pissy and ungrateful, my apologies but I put in an extraordinary effort to get this lap time, spending a good deal longer than I usually do and the reward is in the win, yes... but its also in the knowledge that you're working toward a greater goal, pushing for advancement and promotion. That's the whole point of the handicap system isn't it? And believe me, the thirst for that doesn't diminish just because you're running at the front.

I'd like the handicaps for this week to be looked at again please. 👍

Here's my video:

And replay:

Great lap Chris - your video is exactly what I was trying to do lol.

Congratulations to everyone on the division podiums. Great lap time doodle, cats and also cargo rat with a d2 time in your first Div3 event, and also wins with the d3 win.

Thanks Matt, but I was a little disappointed with my lap time, my best splits would have yielded a 1'17.16 but I guess managing it in a single lap takes a bit more skill. Still pleased to get onto the div2 podium though.

Thanks for a great combo, I'll be joining in the next tuning event, cheers.
Replay to follow tonight

lol. Ok good reason not to ever submit with 1 hours worth of practice :scared:

If I get time another week I'll put together a proper lap.

Fantastic lap Chris, looked perfect from my perspective. I have to say, I was very surprised by the handicap results, I know there's no harm done but a positive number always hurts. Yours in particular made my brow furrow in confusion.

Tremendous job to doodle as well, especially with a ds3.

As always d2 provided great competition, I'm lucky Lou didn't get his magic lap in the low 1'17's because I only left .2 out there.

Great job Mitch, I know you spend a ton of time on these and its certainly paying off.

Replay will show up later.

This was one of the best combos. I even found some victims online last night at this track, I played w/ them like a cat w/ a ball of yarn.

Great vid "V" wow, nice hail Mary there CR, congrats to all who submited and the podium gang.

I'm sympathetic to your plight. When you feel as though you've laid down a spectacular lap, you'd like for that to be recognized and rewarded.

Unfortunately, the statistical analysis can't evaluate the perfection of a particular lap. It does attempt to model what a "perfect" lap would be (which would be a d0 par, or a handicap of 0.000, which has never been achieved, by the way). But as is always true with statistics, the accuracy of the estimate is dependent on the size of the sample set (and an assumption that the set is unbiased). Bias would only be present if someone were cheating or sandbagging, which I believe is rare enough to be a non-issue. Significant outliers really stick out and tend to be filtered out before I post the results.

The handicap curve is generated iteratively, with the goal of a zero aggregate handicap when you add all the racers together, with a skew toward the higher divisions (D1 & D2), with the theory that more skilled racers will be more consistent. I also de-emphasize this if the sample set for a particular division is 3 drivers or fewer (as a single outlier performance, good or bad, can really skew the results).

The upshot is that, if the sample set is small (check), and the performance was genuinely solid (check), the calculated handicap curve will be less accurate (check) in a punitive sense (check).

I'd like the handicaps for this week to be looked at again please. 👍

I can take a look, but I don't want to promise anything. While I want to produce the most accurate handicap curve I can, I don't want to establish the expectation that whining about a positive handicap will result in a change in the results.

Also, the "no-damage" handicap rules are now in effect, so your overall handicap at least won't go up as a result of this result.

Cheers.

Can you hit Edit on your post above, and add the following at the end of both lines?

That will add the green flag for each driver, and the Fetchbot will automatically mark them as "checked" at http://wrs.gtplanet.net/GT5/results/116/

👍

Congrats everyone.

Congrats to all who got a podium. This combo was really addicting.

Tremendous job to doodle as well, especially with a ds3.

Thanks Baron! You can call me Andrew. :)

Thanks Matt :), very happy with my performance this week and very happy (and relieved :sly:) to take the win. Great racing Andrew. 👍

It was a great battle Chris. Unfortunately I had a really bad T3, mainly because I had too much oversteer in the first turn of that sector. I usually got 27.0s and 26.9s. Still pretty happy with my time. For one thing, I pretty much matched my handicap this week. Replay will be posted when I get the chance to log on the PS3 later.

Edit: Here's my NTSC replay. :)

Appreciate that Vaxen, thank you for the response. I hope I've established a history of not moaning :sly: but I did want an open discourse on this... However, I think its understood that we don't want to set a precedent for trying to illicit such changes.

Thanks for verifying mate.

Thanks too for the back-slaps guys. Same to you all. 👍

Replay for Week 116 NTSC. Noticed my T3 was 5th best overall, if I could have only put that with some of by better T1 and T2 times.

I see a few people are upset with the handicap results. I hope its not because of me. I say that because the last time I had a string of 1st place handicap results, I recall a few people having issue with the results then too. I'm not sure how that whole handicap thing works, and quite frankly don't care, I just go out each week and run my butt off and let the chips fall where they may. Don't get me wrong, its nice to have a good handicap, but my only focus is on the final results. The handicap thing is just a bonus to me in how I finish there, if that makes sense. Anyway, just wanted to make it clear that I am not doing anything intentional to skew the handicap results. I just run my butt off, thats all.

My g27 died today. My wife let my kids play down in the basement where my setup is, and I don't know what they've done to it, but it won't power up. I don't have a ds3 controller and I have no way to get my replay exported. I was having problems out of my g27 with calibrating anyway, so I'm sending it back to Logitech whenever they send me a shipping label. Who knows how long that will take :/ you'll have to DQ my lap time for this week. Guess you win Mitch 👍
Sorry guys. Ugh. What a wasted week that was.

USB keyboard will work to control the game menus enough to export a replay... I think???

I don't have a keyboard. Only computer I have is a laptop. It's no big deal, really. If I hadn't gotten a low paycheck the past 2 weeks I would just buy a new ds3. Plus I'm already back on the road in my semi truck and won't be home for 6 days. Thanks though!

That sucks. There has to be a way for you to get this done. You have my sympathy as I myself knows how it feels to put in alot of effort all week long only to have it flushed down the drain for one reason or another. I really hate taking wins this way but we both know who the better person was that week anyway. You beat me fair and square, a minor technicality like that won't change that as far as I'm concerned.👍
