Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

All easy checks.
Congratz McsQ for the overall win,and all podium finishers.
Good job deacon-blues and @EDK for a massive handicapped result
I can't recall 2 participants runnin' the same laptime for a podium,so who's second and third now?

Thank you for the check(s) @Rikson

This won't be pretty.

Code:
IF sort_time > sort_time.1 ; comparison to the previously processed leaderboard entry (lap or eligible sectors)
    posrow = posrow + 1
    pos = posrow
ELSE
    posrow = posrow + 1
FI

Or, nobody was third.

As far as the tie, Vaxen has me in 2nd, but Fetchy has me in 3rd. I think Fetchy picks based on handicap going into the event.

Either way, I'll take my first overall podium in 9 years of WRS. :D
Interesting, maybe that could be documented then.

Well done to all the podiums and those who felt brave enough to try the Spoon  nice photo-finish @MadMax and @EDK !

I had a hard time beating the test laps I'd ran for each car, but got there eventually with what was a pretty solid lap :) had a look at some of the others' replays and there were some interesting techniques being used!

comparison video is rendering now:gtpflag:

edit:

Uploading to them youtubes, but it will take a while :(

Great video Dutchy 👍

Congrats to McsQ for the win and joint 2nd shared by Max and Kevin 👍 A long deserved podium for Kev! Great effort mate

Well done to all other winners

Thanks, guys, for the congrats on the lap/podium. I did not have time to make a proper post last night, but wanted to offer my congrats as well to @mcsqueegy for the dominant win and ultra smooth and precise lap, and to @MadMax for taming that Spoon to the exact same pace I was able to manage. I think it might have taken me another week to get that lap in the Spoon. :)

Congrats as well to @8l23ub for the D2 win, and good to see @deaconblues82 in here representing D3, along with @DeuxMilles getting in his first WRS action.

I uploaded the replays to my PS3 last night, and for the guys in D2 down, will still try and look them over more closely and make a quick write up of what I see. A bit trickier when I was driving a different car than some of you, but I watched enough of the fastest 2 Honda laps to see what they were doing to extract the pace out of that car.

Had a chance to watch some laps.

@DeuxMilles , I know you were asking for tips during the week. I am going to give you some overall tips here, along with some track specific tips related to your lap. No offense intended here, I only want to give you some tips to help you with your driving and pace.

In general, you are braking just a touch too late and going into the corners too hot. If you look at the braking technique from most of the faster drivers, you will see some trail braking. For most corners, starting with 100% brake pressure, but gradually releasing the brake as the car makes it to apex, and then rolling onto the throttle. You're braking late with 100% pressure, and then actually overlapping some between brake and throttle. These cars in particular with this tire setup want more patience. This is causing you to miss the initial apex, and then also causing you to lose traction on the way out since you are just hammering right down on the throttle. The line and patience and smoothness with your inputs is more important.

These cars in general did not like you to take much of the apex cubs. It tended to bounce them out wide, and upset the car from getting on throttle traction. More on that in the track specific notes.

Turn 1 - Brake sooner, use the trail brake technique, make a neutral apex, roll onto about 90% throttle, making it to 100% after the wheel is straight.

Left After T1 (Next Turn with braking) - You braked much too late to make the apex, under steered through the turn, and exited with too little speed. Brake sooner, with trail brake, get to the apex, smooth power out.

Dunlop (Next Right) - You did not lift enough, I actually dabbed the brakes a bit to set the car while off throttle completely. The idea is to take less of the apex curb, and very little if any of the exit curb. That will allow you to maximize exit speed and maintain full throttle and traction through the next flat out left, which is basically a straight. You always want the most speed and longest on throttle time coming onto straights or other full throttle sections.

Right after T2 split - Bake sooner, get to the apex under trail braking, power out of this turn with traction onto the highest speed, longest straight of the lap on time.

Final turn - You brake too late, with too much pressure. About 50% brake pressure while turning in was right. Completely avoid the apex curb, it just sends you wide and causes you to lose acceleration traction and therefore speed.

@deaconblues82 - For most of the turns, you don't get close enough to the outside edge of the track, and start to turn in too early. This will force you wide at exit or will not allow you to get on the throttle as soon. Watch the line that the top couple of Honda laps use. They are staying out wide longer and taking a more aggressive arc to the apex, making the needed steering angle less to make the turn.

Your braking and throttle technique are quite good, I imagine you could pick up at least 3-4 tenths in line alone.

@Thematic - Congrats on 129 straight TT submissions. Wow.

It did not look to me like you raised the nose up on the Toyota. I know it looks silly, but it sure helped this one turn better. I think if you tried 90 in the rear with at least 110 in the front, you would find some pace with that alone. Also, not sure what your brake balance might have been? It looks like your tires were struggling with the transition when you released the brakes, so you slid some. I think that happened to me when I was playing with settings and tried really high rear brake balance. My submission was 1/4, and up to 1/6 worked. But higher than 6 was bad for me. My trail braking tips at the top of this post would also apply, but I have a feeling some of what was happening to you was down to settings.

The other thing that happened to me that caused the car to "bite" in the front like that was front camber. 0 was better for that, again, not sure what you were running.

Your line and braking points look fine. You struggle with mid corner car control, which is causing traction lost and lost lap time. Trail braking and settings should help.

Hope that helps you guys, all I have time for, for now.

Again, nice work by all. 👍

Propably same for me with the Toyota.

I ran the Spoon with ABS 0 , brakes 3/10 and actually found a way to consistently run .2 T1's by overlapping accelerator and brakes at start of braking & when shifting down for turn 1 while trail braking. I call this Ned's - technique. @Nail-27
Shifting weight to front wheels before slamming the brakes to cause the rear tyres to lock up at start of trail braking.

I tried to do the same thing with the Toyota but just ended up locking up the rear wheels.

Thanks @EDK, for the observations.

I had 110 front, 100 rear. Because I didn't want to do things that might compromise existing characteristics while being unable to attribute it to settings.

Zero camber, brakes 2/6. Braking is different from accelerating in that any feedback, when actually braking, is less pronounced and less immediate, so if I can't remember what to do I just guess. The weight distribution is also backwards. I wonder how the heavier base car (WRS wk 44) would have gone through.

thanks a lot. I know that patience is not my second name, but I will work on it to improve my skills. Once again, thanks for your really helpful tipps

I was using 119/90, which is a much larger spread. The car just would not turn for me. I think the tire compound split this week made it so if you had too much front bias (and therefore too much strain on the CS tires), the car acted weird as well. I am guessing if you tried 1/3, it would have a conservative feel, but the back would not break away so dramatically when you release the pedal.

I actually drove the base car on the seasonal during the week, with a lot of different settings, but sometimes 100% stock. With CS on all 4 corners and stock weight distribution, the behavior was totally different under braking. I think I used 2/4, or maybe even 3/4. And I'm sure even F/R balance would work.

For me with settings it's initially trying to just make the car feel like I want it to, and then I test adjustments against my ghost to see how different settings might improve my pace.

Guessing if you went back and even just dropped front BB to 1 and Rear RH to 90, you would notice a difference in handling and car control and could improve. 👍

Thanks for the insight @EDK help is always welcome. Ironically, I had moved back to using a g27 for this combo to help with the fwd.

Congrats to everyone that drove this week, especially @Thematic, now that it's definitely enough stopwatch for me!

@GTP_Dutchy, awesome comparison video! Things like that, and the effort by the mods and everyone that puts on these weekly time trials and races give the WRS a polished feel that is second to none. Thanks to all you guys.
