Course Settings
:
  • Time: Optional
  • Weather: N/A
  • Grip Reduction on Track Edge: Real

Race Specifics:
  • The event MUST be run using your registered account
  • The use of the clutch that is found on the G25, G27, and other high end racing wheels is strictly prohibited.
  • Use of the Handbrake is Prohibited.
  • No Contact with walls or other objects. Any contact with walls, no matter how minor, will result in a DQ.
  • Tarmac and red and white rumble strips are legal track. No other surfaces are track.
  • The mossy green and concrete sections behind rumble strips are NOT track.

Steward's Comments:
Did some testing in an online lobby with @suprajef and @mistersafeway today. We came up with this one, and I hope you all enjoy it. 👍 I know, Mazda 2 weeks in a row. So sue me.

Viewing your Time Splits:

  • You need to make sure you save the 'Save Best Lap Replay' (ghost replay), not the 'Save Replay' (See pic below)
  • To view your best lap replay, go to 'My Home' and watch the replay from there using the 'Gallery' option.
  • Live timing monitor does not work properly, so we have to use a small trick to view splits.
  • While viewing your Replay, pause the lap by hitting start, before the end of the first sector.
  • While keeping the replay paused, advance the replay, using the forward arrow on the replay HUD. This will advance the replay to the end of the first sector. That's your T1 split, write it down.
  • Advance the replay again. That will show the lap to date time on the screen, this is your first and second sector time, added together.
  • To post your T1 Splits, simply post the lap to date times that are shown in the middle of the screen. Do not try to calculate the actual T2 split time, the Fetchbot will do that for you.

Standard Clean OLR Rules:

  • At Least 2 Tires must be in contact with track at all times.
    • In situations where contact with the track is not possible because tires are airborne (above the ground), then the run is only legal if at least two tires in-line would have made contact with the track if the car were not airborne.
    • If track contact cannot be 100% determined, then consider it dirty.
  • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track.
  • No contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • If you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • No hybrids
  • No cheating of any kind, these are relaxed races and we are experienced racers, we know what times can be done, and we can read your mind.We will know.
  • Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
Thread rules:

The following information cannot be discussed in this thread (they can, however, be discussed on Skype or via other private conversation methods):

  • Total Lap Time
  • Any information which can be used to infer your total laptime
The following information can be discussed in this thread :

  • The first 2 splits: T1 and T2 times
  • Any settings discussion

Splits Sharing

  • WRS Participants have traditionally shared splits as a way to reveal their pace without providing the full lap time until the event deadline. Posting of splits is not mandatory, but is considered fair sportsmanship.
  • WRS Admins reserve the right to request posting of splits from members who show a pattern of avoidance or deception in this area.
  • If you fail to comply with a direct request from an admin to post splits for a current or future event, we reserve the right to disqualify your lap from the results.

Submission:

All submissions must be sent by PM (Subject title: GTP_WRS Week 190 Submission ) to (WRSFetchbot):

  • Then attach your 'Best Lap'/'Ghost' replay in zip file form. Everyone submits a replay instead of listing a lap time.
  • You will need to put something in the message body in order to begin a conversation. It doesn't matter what you put, it can even be 1 letter or symbol. Nobody but the Fetchbot is going to see it, so it's sort of pointless, anyhow.
  • You will get an automated response within 15min, letting you know whether your submission was accepted, or if you had an error.
  • If you have an error, don't panic. Just review the instructions for submission and submit again. If you are having trouble and cannot figure it out, please post your question in the race thread.
  • Users can ask the bot for the current submitted time by sending a message with the Subject: "GTP_WRS Week XX Get Entry" and any text in the body.
  • Users can delete their submitted time by sending a message with the Subject: "GTP_WRS Week XX Remove Entry" and any text in the body.
  • If you want to submit multiple times in the week that is still not a problem. Just reply to the conversation with your new time and new replay. Fetchy always uses the last submitted time as the final one.
  • See this screenshot as an example on how to submit:

  • The deadline is Monday, September 11th 11:59pm GMT
  • If you are unsure of the deadline try this site

Why Use GMT?:

GMT is World Time and the basis of every world time zone which sets the time of day and is at the centre of the time zone map. GMT sets current time or official time around the globe. Most time changes are measured by GMT. Although GMT has been replaced by atomic time (UTC) it is still widely regarded as the correct time for every international time zone.

Replay Checking:

  • Everyone is required to submit a replay for verification. This happens when you submit to the Fetchbot, and the replays will be visible in the leaderboard, once we've reached the event deadline
  • Participants will be expected to check each others' replays for cleanliness, for replays marked in the Results thread as (Check Needed)
  • Video replays are not accepted as a form of verification

Wow, losing a lot of time in the second sector.

Shift the car at 8,800 RPM or higher. The limiter is at 9,000 and it likes to take off as it approaches that from 8,800 at times, so be careful. A lot to be gained between something like 8,500 and 8,800, it was almost 2 tenths on the 1 km test course. But the gain from 8,800 to limiter was negligible.

That's a remarkably aggressive (e: ok, difficult) line you two must be taking in that "t1" right-hander, I just discovered.

I blip down one gear for the left and just touch rumbles with left wheel, since it will red clock anything more.

Then down another gear and hard on the throttle to the curb for exit in the second half.

Keep in mind, you lose a bit on lap one due to lower speed at start finish.

Submitted my lap and received the following reply:

Great combo this one with the trickiest part being the end bend.. with luck you can just drop from 5th to 4th and don't use the brakes just tap tap the throttle until you find the line then floor it ;) A good speed for crossing the start line on your fast lap should be about 123-124 mph or 199 kph 👍

GL guys

You can be forgiven for getting a little :grumpy: from time to time. A little  even! But remember when this does happen, again and again and again  and you feel like you have been :banghead: so much that it :ouch:. It serves more than one purpose 💡. For as much as it hurts and burns when it occurs, it also makes the eventual...

Not my best final section so may be a couple of tenths for me still.

this assumes that you reach 5th before the last corner. I'm still in 4th there :odd:
Just lifting the throttle before this corner isn't enough, I have to break a little bit. This leads to ~196 km/h at the line.

Still a lot to find in the second sector, stay tuned

Well, I was a bit more then .2 faster up to t2 already but as Ron said: It's all about the final turns.

Else I'm a bit handicapped with a shoulder injury from biking. Limited to very smooth driving. But as I can do this smooth driving with my shoulder
I can't say it disturbs too much. Still can't do fast reaction moves for a few weeks.

I am not using 5th anywhere, even on the main straight. I tried it and I don't think it cost me time, but it did not gain time.

It's possible that it provides an advantage going downhill, which my testing on the 1 km flat and straight course would not account for. And sometimes a gear change does do enough to slow and rotate the car in a situation like this one. I am dabbing the brake from 4th gear and mashing the throttle out of there, I think my minimum speed to carry in that corner on my fast runs was about 110 MPH.

Hi,

sure? Not 2/4?

No I use 4/2.. I want the front to slow me down whilst the ass slides and helps get around the turns easier 👍

Going through the final tunnel I gear up to 5th and drop to 4th to take the downhill.. then I gear up to 5th again briefly approaching the bottom of the hill to quickly drop to 4th again to help the car turn into the final bend with good acceleration.. it works for me :)👍

8800 is a bit late I guess. I'm in 5th gear 3 times and besides 2nd to 3rd in turn1 I do shift about 200-300rpm into the red zone. Not later then 8500 anywhere.
Here's what I tested on a 1 km user created track.

  1. A complete run shifting at redline to set a baseline for testing.
  2. A complete run shifting at 8,500, which resulted in slightly less than one tenth advantage.
  3. A complete run shifting at 8,800 RPM, which improved nearly 2 tenths over the run at 8,500.
  4. A complete run shifting at just before 9,000 to avoid hitting the limiter. This was less than half a tenth advantage over the entire 1 km.
One flaw to this methodology is the affect of elevation change on acceleration, but the car does seem to like being wrung out.

it's a fight against the understeer. What a lovely car this could be with proper suspension setup and tires.
If it's understeering, slow down more.

We talked about tuning while testing this, but to be honest, it generally just means fewer participants because nobody wants to deal with making a setup that works for them.

As for proper tires, these work for the power and weight of the car. Race tires make these a bit ridiculous.

Anyhow, it is what it is at this point, but I have found that making sure you have the correct corner entry speed lets the car rotate just fine.

I agree too, the tyres fit great and any other compound would probably take the difficulty away completely.. we got to have somewhere that we can maybe lose control if we push too much and Racing tyres on this thing would be like on a train track :D
It's a really nice balance the tyres we are using 👍

btw.. here's my ride :P

That truly looks like great fun , quick question about it , is it nessasary to go high in the corners , asking because it looked as iff some off the corners it cost you a little time ?
