Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

Gobsmacked at that winning lap time!!! Unbloodyreal .. This guy needs testing for PED's ffs :P Anyway Wow Congrats GTP_McsQ :bowdown:

Congrats to Oink and MeisterFetz for filling the podium with some cracking normal world laptimes too 👍 Great lap from Kev also ;)
Well done to all who took part and survived the chicane to the line :cool:

Will upload my non required lap and put a vid on my channel just through habit :D Well done all 👍

I guess I just missed the deadline to submit the time I did yesterday. Dang it. I had 2 seconds on my submitted time lol

Oh well. Was still a fun drifty event for me:P

Incredible lap @mcsqueegy I wouldn't have thought there was another .5 in the last sector but that's very impressive. Congrats all some great lap times in all divisions. :cheers:

Can someone briefly explain how the par/gold/silver etc times are calculated and what they mean? I'm sure that's been asked a hundred times, if it's written somewhere feel free to point me.

Edit: replay shared

GTP_oink's lap is clean but it's been ran under the oink83 account, not sure if a PSN change here was done but regardless that's a couple of great handicaps to come back with 👍

Thanks, yeah I have changed PSN names, but the guys have suggested it's fiddly updating the registry so it's still showing the old one.

And on that note;

Oh damn I totally forgot the WRS yesterday :dunce:

there goes my streak :(

Replay shared.
PSN is GTP_Spiff. Two “f”s, slight spelling change from the results board.

thanks guys!

It always amazes me how different the top drivers are from the rest of us

I would never have thought using third gear through all the corners and then up shifting to be in 5th through the death chicanes was the way... How do you do it, is there a trial and error process before you figure out what the most efficient gears to be in are?

Quite interestingly, the shifting timings I used were very different to McsQ, and he's a second faster than me so perhaps that's in part due to that - nevertheless, my method has been definitely some trial and error, running multiple laps in a row is really helpful because you get those little +/- numbers so even if you bin a lap early on, carry on and just experiment and you can at least see any time you make.

It's also down to the car, different torque/power curves. For example this Chevy had loads of torque low in the revs. Most cars you'll upset the balance when you change gears, so in many corners it can be smoother to not change, and in other cases the car can get slippy at certain rev counts if you don't change! An example of that is I found on the fast S's up the hill, when 'hopping' off the curbs, when in 4th the car was more likely to land and start sliding a bit, but if I changed to 5th just at that moment it was a nice smooth landing. You also lose a split second of acceleration when you change so you avoid that issue.

Hope that helps some!

I think the 3rd gear exit in this car at some point becomes a bit of common sense. The car wants to take your head off in 2nd, you have to wait to get on throttle. Try 3rd on a lap or 2 and see if you gain time on your ghost. If you gain, it's faster for you.

On some combos, it's the other way. The Toyota at Bathurst, it was more to say 2nd might over slow the car, so can I get away with carrying this in 3rd gear? Can I go fast enough, carry enough momentum to make it worthwhile?

Anytime gearing feels awkward in a section, or like you might not be doing it right, try different things and see how they work.

I do the same thing in real life, especially when driving new cars on a track I've driven, or when driving a track for the first time.

It's part of finding pace. Gears are a compromise of sorts, so you are trying to figure out how to neutralize that as much as possible.

Since we don't often tune, many corners are "between gears" and you need to work out which one of those gears is the best. It's easy to think "since the car is OK to go all the way down to second, that must be fast". But the underlying facts in this car were that it has a ton of torque, and a lot of second gear wheel spin/slide.

all runs are clean 👍
@Mr P
very close at the exit of the chicane but definitely no touch/hit

for the difference in gear choice:
@Mr P
always uses lower gears whereas
@oink83
and
@Meister Fetz
are one gear higher in most of the corners and they all have almost identical laptime

Thanks for checking and good analysis of different gearing tactics 👍 I genuinely never considered staying in the higher gear.. I felt a 2nd gear controlled exit speed would be enough.. but next time I will defo play about with higher gears, In the past when watching winning laps at the green hell I would see how I lost so much speed when I saw the advantage of staying in higher gears for a super lengthy track and it always cost me as I was always a gear lower than the front runners :P I will learn one day :cheers:

Good round guys! 👍

I am going to green flag this, but your replay is faster than your submission. You had a 1:51.360. the 833 was your prior fast in the session. The time stamp on the library shows your lap time
.
It looked like you were scared of the edge of the track. Use more of the track width all around and you will be faster. And you also lifted in places like the uphill esses that could be taken flat with the right technique.

Also, the car was better with short shifting, higher gears, and no TC.

Nice today lap, just suggestions to go faster.
