After conquering Le Mans Ford decided that they wanted to win the increasingly popular and important Can Am series. Len Bailey designed an ultra aerodynamic body, which in coupe form became the Ford P68. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/ford-p68-f3l-3l-gt-1968-race-car.302285/
It was thought that with better aerodynamics than other cars they would be competitive using a lighter small block Ford, initially of 351 cubic inches, later 377. However the Ford was between 50 and 100bhp down on the big block Chevrolets with the result that the car had to be run with less down force. Paul Newman sponsored the car and in return he was named as "Team Manager".
Mario Andretti was hired as the driver and described the car as the worst he had ever driven - the combination of ultra slippery body with very low downforce resulted in challenging handling.
This car would be a great addition to Gran Turismo - it was unsuccessful, but stunningly beautiful, with great potential. The unusual paint was based on a previous Holman Moody NASCAR. The unusual name came from the nickname "Honker" given to the boss of Holman Moody because of his fondness for using the air horns on the teams race transporter.
Above - I've never seen an interior like that, but I would love to have that view in GT6 or 7!
