Like so many before him, he literally started out as a joke, and wasn't particularly interesting to listen to. Sometime later, whilst still a joke, he (they) released a complex, startling and flowing piece of work that was quite tongue-in-cheek, and happened to feature a cover of a popular song which had all the potential of becoming a hit single. And it did.
And then people stated taking him seriously. Subsequently, he began to take himself seriously. The end result, as we know it, is pretty insipid. Unfortunately. He was showing some promise at one point.
Great voice, though.
