In 1970, McLaren would make a third variant of their M8. This one would be available to customers and in addition to having the same Hewland 500 Transmission and a light 646 KG weight as the earlier cars, featured a lower chassis-mounted wing compared to its predecessors in compliance with a rule change made in 1970. Another change was the way the engine was mounted, which meant that the engines were no longer a stressed member of the chassis unlike the previous iterations and as a result allowed for a big-block Ford or Chevrolet engine.

The addition of this car would not only big one of McLaren's classic racing machines and add to the lineup, but would also provide a competitive companion to the Toyota 7.

Engine: Chevrolet 7.0L Naturally Aspirated V8
Horsepower: 650 hp
Transmission: Hewland 500 4-Speed Manual
Weight: 646Kg
Drivetrain: RWD

Surely that car had a V8 not a V10. I could be wrong though. Come to think of it I usually am.

Regardless, what a fabulous looking and sounding machine.
