Xbox one S help needed

Hi I need to install a hard drive in an Xbox one S to see if it will work , the hard drive in it is dead and doesn’t work.
I have a spare 256gb drive to try before I spend any money on a bigger, newer drive.
What software will help me to format the drive correctly.
