    This complaint may seem a little random, but my PS3 today had the YLOD… live long my poor Playstation… which means I won’t be able to play Gran Turismo 5 whenever it comes out :'(

    looks like the AI is not only non existant, but also appears to be following the wrong racing line and what looks like a pre-programmed line

      A.I. difficulty is set to medium hence why they are slow and easy to overtake, the video is also taken from arcade mode with a bunch of driving aids enabled.

      People need to take into account GT5 is highly configerable and not every video will be set-up to your likings.

    Is daylight transition track-relative or time relative? In other words, if I’ll stop the car, will I see a day-night-day transition normally or just a time will stop for that part of track where I am, so a day (or night) will be eternal?

      You can tell how many people visit this site due to how the same things are brought up time and time again, and answered countless times.

      It’s a replay, it doesn’t happen when driving.

    does the transition work with the time on the console or does it come into play on endurance races? Im interested in how long it takes.any of you guys help?

      It could be different: endurance-races mostly start around 3.00pm, so we should expect sundown after 5-6hrs or so, independent from your starting-time. If normal races are programmed to have day/night-transition, it could very well work with your console-time. To be honest, I don’t know it, just guessing. Example: if you start at console-time 11.00pm – is it dark from the beginning? Questions, questions :-D

      @ Rupert: Well, Forza 3 is a good game, but I rate GT5 higher because of 7 things (not in order):
      1. Ability to race 16 cars at a time.
      2. I like the aestethics better(I’m not getting into an argument about graphics, because although they are pretty different in style it’s hard to say that one is “better” than the other, I think it’s all up to personal preferences).
      3. Night racing and daylight transitioning.
      4. The track creator.
      5. The diversity of the cars. Yes I admit that Forza is representing the true supercars better than GT5, but GT5 has a wider range of vehicles that I as a car enthusiast and design freak appreciate.
      6. Nostalgia, my first racing game (no wait, it was actually an Indy Car racing game for the 1994 Macintosh that my family had back in the days…) was the original Gran Turismo and later on Gran Turismo 2 and to come back ten years later and revisit the tracks and the cars is just something that is special to me.
      7. I bought a PS3, so there is not really any other option for me :P
      Still, I really like Forza3 too, I play it when I have the chance to. And I do think that there are areas where Forza 3 is ahead of GT5, but for me they are not big enough to make me change to an Xbox.

    Guys…this really is B-Spec – just not in manager view. This guy tekken can barely drive with the line on, and he’s fraking flying on the ring and quite accurately WITH THE DRIVING LINE OFF (almost all his other videos have the line on). Don’t believe me? Observe the computer-quick braking and acceleration feathering on the outside of the turns to keep from going off track, also the ANNOYING b-spec bob habit of bumper-banging instead of passing seems to be intact. Really, this is B-Spec driving.

      also check out the number of laps… 12 . HE obviously used b-spec because 12 laps on the ring is an endurance race

      and i have a feeling its 16 for standard and 12 for premium, or at least on tracks with night/rain

      you could be right… but tekken actually commented that when he was driving he was trying to put his headlights on thus the reason we see him flashing the lights when it was still relatively light….

      I don’t think it is B-spec. I doubt the B-spec drivers are this agressive. I mean, overtaking cars already in the first corner? Is Ayrton Sienna available as a B-Spec driver or what? Still I find it a bit intriguing that Tekken90 is suddently capable of producing a pretty good lap. Especially since some of his earlier videos suggests that he’s driving by hand controller. Maybe he bought a wheel? Maybe he is familliar with the ring? Maybe he let a friend come over and drive? I don’t really know…

      With the right car and competition it was very common to blast away from the pack just a couple turns in using B-Sepc, at least in GT4. Hopefully it is still is not as easy as telling bob to push past the pack immediately and cruise for the remainder. This was an easy way to grind cash whilst doing homework or snacking with GT4. If this is b-spec then things don’t seem to have changed much!

    On the back straight he was definitely outdriving his headlight range (hard not to at 250 clicks) but I did notice the high beams weren’t on. I wonder how much difference that will make.

      How can you outdrive headlight range? You know what the speed of light is. It’s just that you better know what’s coming up and the proper line to whip the car through the corner. Some newer cars now have headlights that follow the steering input..wonder if PD has implemented that with certain cars.

    going on the livery i’d say its one of the last two
    which means what i read somewhere was right – all the cars have cockpits the premium ones have more detail

      You could be right. The dash looks pretty ordinary – not what I would expect after all the hype about how detailed a premium car is.

      Wishful thinking, but you are wrong. No standard car has a cockpit view – they never had one in GT4, and they have not made any for GT5.

    Um, According to Moore’s Law, The PS3 should be better graphically….

    But just to further drive the point home, the two “it” games to get on a sony platform are MGS and GT, Even the PS2 managed some damn good graphics (Snake eater anyone?)

    Now physics isn’t directly related to Hardware, It’s related to the algorithm used, Technically the best physics I’ve seen is iRacing, hands down, but then again they laser scan every inch of real world tracks down to the mm.

    And it is kind of funny that Forza fanboys knock GT considering a lot of forza’s design cues were inspired from the GT series, which commands respect….

    (not to mention that this is Turn 10’s third sim and they still haven’t learned how an AWD car handles, according to forza a subaru/mitsu will go push-four at the lightest touch of the brake pedal, and don’t even get me started on how you can’t trailbrake in the game)

    I like forza a lot, but growing up with both brands, GT has always delivered more for Hardcore enthusiasts, and for those of us with real world track time, the track analyzer in GT4 was one of many small details that made it a game we still play to this day.(and the fact GT4’s ring’ is still more brutal then F3[and its mysterious jump point])

    Further more, if you haven’t been able to amerce yourself in the gt series yet, you’ll find out that with every console, the 2nd series release is amazing, and if GT2;GT:PSX and GT4;GT3:PS2, then GT5 is just the tip of the iceberg for whats to come with GT6. (1,3, and 5 are like beta’s in my mind) lol

      Agree, seems like the odd numbers are there to break new ground and the even numbers are there to glorify it all. Maybe in GT6 we will see all premium cars (can we hope for a total of 500?), weather and day/night transition (I want to see a night->day transtion too) on all tracks, a couple of new tracks from real life (Spa?), an improved track creator (more parameters?), improved damage model.. Now I wonder what GT7 will be like if it is to be released on the next generation of consoles… maybe we will all have holographic TV’s by then, or sofas that simulates the shakings of the car? And the TV doesn’t only display a perfect representation of the world in terms of sound and vision (Bowie, anyone?), but also smell? Maybe if we crash and burn our Volkswagen on Nürburgring our PS4 will self-ignite? Hm… only future will tell…

      @isocuda Thanks for the thoughtful post. It’s always been my understanding that the ps3 cell processor is theoretically much more powerful than xbox, but it’s diabolically difficult to program for. Thus when games get developed for both platforms the ps3 port tends to struggle, because it is pretty much emulating a pc. Xbox pretty much is a pc.

      Gt5 is Sonys big chance to prove the point.

        ok first off thanks for the videos and pics in the past few days. However a little cleaner racing in the videos would be nice. ALOT of people will watch these vids, some may get the idea thats its ok to ram the back of cars and such. We definatly dont need more of that. On the flipside i have no idea of youre skill lvl in racing games and mabye you are trying, if so keep at it more clean racers is always nice and thanks again for the vids, pics and info regarding gt5.

        I totally know what you mean… a lot of people are bent toward the driving style of NFS and Burnout lol. Though a lot of people on here (or at least I would think)should know by now that if you race like a maniac, you won’t win in a simulator.

        I was thinking the same, when I noticed that all the spectators and their tents had disappeared. These 250.000 having a giant party each year for one week or so are an important part of each 24hr-event. I don’t see any reason, why they shouldn’t stand around the ring in Arcade with day/night-transition. So, this could be an earlier build, which gives us hope, that the glitch and some blocky textures disappeared in the meanwhile. :-)

    I’ve noticed something somebody can eventually explain to me :

    At the end of the race, the time displayed is 7:10:708 but what you see in Best Lap is 7:10:679.

      Maybe something to do with it being a rolling start, the race time being slightly different than the player’s actual lap time. The race started just before the player crossed the start line and ended when the player crossed the finish line. Just a thought

      He’d be more than a tenth of a second behind the lead car going over the start line and the race starting though, it is very strange and I have no idea why it is like that.

      As Americans it’s just a stigma we’ll have to live with for a while…people’s opinions change when they meet us. Every country is stereotyped, and I LOVE the stereotype people have of us, it’s a very fun one to play with;) Go check out a movie called Porco Rosso, it has one of the most classic stereotypical American characters ever!

      …and the last string of vid’s posted here have blown me away – worries about the track & car list are now far from my mind. It’s going to be months before my jaw comes off the floor, regardless of what car I’m driving or track I’m on, and by then I’m sure more content will be on its way. Yaahooo!

      That’s no Holland, that’s indonesia! Holland is The Netherlands in Europe. We did steal that country and suppresed the locals till 50 years ago, just like America is trying in the Middle East. So Hollandaise rice paddies has not much to do with Holland, in holland we only put potatoes in the ground.

      I think you have to scroll across the US borders in Google maps to learn some topography.

      he seems to be playing arcade mode races as the laps are always set to 1 so if their is the same difficult setting as the in store demos he probably doesn’t not have it on the hardest setting. i think in one of the leaked videos is saw the same type of menu for arcade mode

    This video is cool. And yes GT5 is going to be pretty good. But there is no way it can compete with Forza. It is physically impossible for a Playstation 3 to produce the graphics and physics that an XBOX 360 is able to perform

      Listen, I found a dead kitten, and something moved me to place my 360 Leet with my FW3 disc inside it right next to it… AND IT CAME TO LIFE!!1 Unfortunately, the crazy thing ate the entire console, disc and all. But then guess what??

    Here is a note to all you complainers (not that there are any on this posting): Go play GT4 the day before you get GT5. Then be very impressed :-)

      I would but my old PS3 is broke so I can’t play PS2 games anymore =(. I almost bought GT4 the other day but remembered at the last second that I wouldn’t have been able to play it lol.

      For anyone that has an HDTV & still owns a PS2, I found out a very interesting little tid-bit. GT4 is one of two PS2 games that play in HD (1080i). I found this out from a top 100 list on ign, went to gamestop for some PS2 component cables (PS3, Wii, & 360 compatible), plugged them in and played. From the GT4 options (Not the PS2 browser) you can change the game format, works like a charm.

      Warning: A friend has informed me that it did not work for him on his backwards compatible PS3. Thus, I’m assuming this is ONLY CAPABLE with the ACTUAL PS2 GAME SYSTEM. Attempt @ your own cost.

    I wish GT5 was a midnight launch…the guy at Gamestop told me “that game just isn’t good enough for a midnight launch.” Bull. Crap. This is the biggest video game of my life. Have to wait an extra 10 hours to play….. :’-(

      The last Blu-Ray movie that I pre-ordered on Amazon.com arrived at my house a day before it actually came out… Fingers crossed!

      I wish the quality was better though, I can’t tell how blocky the trees look. I got creamed over mentioning it last time, but if the trees look blocky/pixelated, the shadows are going to be as well.

    Hopefully daylight acceleration can be adjusted so you can race a good 1-2 hour race at the ring and not have it go dark to light 15 times.

    Other then that this is worth 60 dollars for me right here. nur24h with some GT cars and lmp cars.

    I don’t think some of you realize how damn hard it is to run a decent lap at night on the ring.

      That’s a good point… I’m wondering if the transition will be based on the race length. I doubt it would cycle over and over. I would guess it would auto adjust to the length of the race and run one cycle over the course of the race.

      The video’s creator said that the glitch only appeared in the replay and not during his actual gameplay lap.

      What we are watching is the replay.

      Ah that’s good.I hope that doesn’t occur very often. Out of the few videos we’ve seen in the game, it’s not a good sign if that’s cropping up already.
      It’d be pretty strange to try to drive on an invisible track… Would be funny if they had a little cheat to screw around on sometime.

      Yeah, the reappearing trees threw me a little, but how brilliant was it seeing the reflection of the setting sun on the steering wheel! (@4:00) Amazing.

      Haha, disappearing track reminds me of the old GT / GT2(?) trick where you could wriggle your way through the wall next to the starting grid on Laguna Seca and drive out into nothingness, watching your little dot go right off the map :D Good times.

      will GT5 feature cockpit view replays? Prologue didn’t have that view on replays. I truly hope it’s not gameplay cuz I suspect it is a gameplay glitch.

    The sky colors looked nice as it progressed towards sundown. I’m wondering if there will be any variations on the sky/sunset depending on location or if it’s all the same.

      Play Project Gotham Racing 2. It has night racing on the Nurburging as well. It’s crazy when you break your headlights and you can’t see anything.

      the day to night transition looks much better in this video that the really quick transition in the best buy demo toscana. When it’s changing to night this slow (still accelerated) you really get to soak it in and it shows another way GT5 is going to be incredible. We all have complaints, games aren’t perfect but IMHO the track list is great and the game is innovative, it’s going to be great

      You should get one of those connect cards that you can stick in your PC via USB and connect to the internet. Not the fastest, but it’s loads better than dial-up!

When Gran Turismo 5 was released, something unusual in the game’s Kyoto Photo Travel Location caught the attention of our community: a curiously detailed little cat. He blinked, turned his head, looked around, and generally drove people crazy.
