After more than two and a half years of work, I am excited to announce the launch of GTPEDIA: GTPlanet’s Guide to the World of Gran Turismo.
GTPEDIA is a comprehensive encyclopedia, covering every detail of every game ever released in the Gran Turismo series, spanning over 375 pages in length full of text, tables, and trivia.
It’s a fully independent and unauthorized publication, compiled by Famine (Andrew Evans) with the help of many in our community here, and designed, edited, and published by GTPlanet.
Get your copy now as a PDF eBook ($17.95 USD) or a professionally printed paperback book ($19.95 + shipping); or save some money and get both with a combo pack ($29.95 + shipping).
GTPEDIA, of course, makes a great Christmas gift for any Gran Turismo fan, so feel free to forward this page along to your friends or family! For guaranteed delivery by December 25, international orders must be placed by Dec. 3, and orders within the United States must be placed by Dec. 21.
We have put a lot of effort into making GTPEDIA the best resource it can be, and we’re eager to hear your feedback. If you pick up a copy, please let us know what you think about it, and thanks – as always – for your support!
Just a question…How in depth does the book get regarding the cars and its physics? I’m on the verge of making the plunge and that’s one addition that would top it off.
PS: If there are updates and someone purchases the book version, do they get updated copy’s? If not, I would highly recommend throwing in the download version for free to buyers of the hard book.
I’m not sure what type of physics data you’re looking for, but you’ll have a good idea of what’s contained in the book if you take a look at the sample chapter. All customers will be able to download updates as PDF addendum.
Tempting to say the least… I just spent the evening searching the web for anything on Jean Reno’s(?) voice over on an obscure GT television ad. First thing I’ll be looking for in the GTPedia.
Hmm, we don’t cover GT-related advertisements in the book, but if you’re that into the series that much, you’ll still probably enjoy the book. :)
Awesome, just what I was looking for
Hows the sales atm?
A new 25-page sample of GTPEDIA is now available on the book’s website.
Thanks Jordan. Placing an order now. :-)
What is this magic technology where by I can buy a book were the words aren’t wrote yet……
4 x successfully GT series ..how can we apply this magic to our next title?
GT5 Is born….now that’s ahead of the technology game….cheers pd for the new stuff
you get more for your $$$ with PD….
Err… what?
The words are all written. I know, I spent two years writing them and I’ve watched my drafts evolve into this book through Jordan’s editing. Several people have already taken delivery of their ordered eBooks and have already read them. The printed books will be sent out to those who’ve ordered them on Monday. A printed copy was available to GTP members at the Formula 1 in Austin earlier this month to thumb through.
This is book is written by me, edited by Jordan and published by GTPlanet. It’s nothing to do with Polyphony Digital or Sony in any form, as we repeatedly make clear. It contains complete data for all ten major GT releases, several minor ones and is composed of information I’ve generated from scratch, a decent proportion of which you won’t find anywhere else in the world, even on GTPlanet already.
If data on fifteen years worth of Gran Turismo games isn’t worth your dime, that’s your call. I hope you decide that it is, because we put this together for fans and supporters of GTP – to encourage people to replay the old games and explore the new ones with something written for them alongside their console to help them.
I’m comparing the ‘updateabilaty’…keep up the great work..don’t stop writing ..I’m sure there will be plenty more GT evolution…
“The most important thing in gt5 is the way it’s built effects all future of the GT series ” Kaz quite some time ago…
PD are not only good at making car games..their also experts in content delivery.its good the Internet is finally catching up…
You can bet that when GT6 is out I’ll spend two weeks glued to it, writing a chapter rather than playing it!
Any update on the sample pages? Checked the GTPEDIA tab and I don’t see them just yet. Was hoping to get an order in by Monday if I liked what I saw. Thanks for the hard work guys.
Not yet. I’ll try to have it out this weekend, though and will post a new comment here when it’s available followed by a more formal announcement next week. Thanks for your patience.
[EDIT]: It’s available now!
A combo along these lines would make sense:
Paperback + years premium = $30
eBook + years premium = $28
Paperback + eBook + premium = $40
Had I not bought premium a few days ago and these were available then I’d more than likely have bought them.
Just saw famine’s post about supporting book buyers with updates, how exactly can you update a book halfway around the world and also, $20+ delivery? Not very appealing. And What exactly is the point of buying the combo? That just means you get 2 copies of the same thing for more money
I’m buying the combo.
One reason I’m getting it is so I can look at the physical copy of the book when I can’t or don’t want to look at it on my iPad.
Book updates will be available as PDF files to download at no charge. The ability to search the PDF eBook edition and reference it on any electronic device is a convenient perk. The combo pack offers a discount to those who want to enjoy the best features or characteristics of both editions.
How much of this book is already outdated since it was more than likely compiled prior to 2.09?
It’s up-to-date as of last week. The only thing it doesn’t contain is the Corvette C7 prototype.
There should be an online wiki of GT.
There was. It went really, really badly.
” Really, really bably” is a understatment Famine.
There is. It’s part of wikia.
OUTSTANDING!! The book is great, I thought I knew everything about GT
Back on topic; when can I expect delivery of the ‘Pedia?
I’m pretty sure it never said anything regarding this in any emails or anything.
I ordered it yesterday (UK).
Thanks. : )
Paperbacks will be shipped on Monday, December 3rd. For UK orders, it will be in transit for 6-10 days after that. Shipping details are posted at the bottom of the book’s webpage.
We get a new car tomorrow. Chevrolet Corvette C7 Prototype… YAY.
Really?
Really – look for the article above shortly – and this should test out our free updates!
No offense Famine but I can’t tell if that’s sarcasm XD
Are we seriously getting the Corvette Prototype?
R u being sarcastic I did not hear anything about that
How do you know it’s tomorrow?
By the way… Just bought the combo, can’t wait to get the book, as soon as I’m done with this long ass History SA I have, I’ll give the PDF a good read and give Jordan a feedback :)
I just looked it up it’s legit
Good Work, Guys!!
Many, many players will benefit from this effort. I will use all connections I have to see you bumped up on the ‘Good Karma’ list. ;)
Does it also include the vacuum cleaner models used for the sounds? *lol*
Seems like gt6 will be released spring next year
Yep, and even though GT5 took 4-5 years (I think(?); well be getting GT7 at the end of next year. Alongside Hovercars and teleportation devices. ; )
In fact can you please explain your logic behind that statement 05XR8(?)
Yes, please do explain, I too would like to know how you arrived at that.
I think he means it feels like GT6 Is not far away i think
…and it ll be on PS3 or PS4 ???????
^lol
It’s anybody’s guess when it will be released. If planet are releasing a guide, must be nothing left to add to GT5.
We’re nothing to do with Sony or PD and we have no particular inside information on GT5’s support status or GT6’s progress. The timing of the book is unrelated to just about anything except Christmas and, if nothing else, GT5 is anticipated to have an addition in the shape of the C7 Corvette Concept we reported on last month very shortly.
I don’t think GT5’s done just yet. And since we’ll be supporting the book’s buyers with free updates, GT6 will mean one hell of a chunk of work for us – so I certainly hope we get some time off!
That’s sweet news
Great! So all I need is GTPEDIA and ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ and I will be safe:)
Disclaimer: GTPEDIA is not intended to act as a long term replacement for a towel. For all instances of Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traals attacks, GTPEDIA may not suffice in lieu of towels. Remember, a hoopy frood always knows where his towel is.
A-maze-balls!
Jordon, Andrew & contributors,
Congratulations on your publication and what I could imagine may have been a love-hate relationship at times for these past few years to get it done. A super stellar effort guys in bringing this all together, particularly as it sounds as though it was done independently of any major corporate support. Looking forward to sitting down for an extended read and also five stars on keeping this under wraps for so long!
(i think I picked up from time to time there was a major project in the works, but it didn’t realise it was on this scale).
Hat’s off again and I hope it does well for you. Order placed. :)
Trivia and general easter eggs, etc sounds interesting.. :)
Going to buy this really soon. It’s amazing what GTPlanet (in particular Jordan and Famine) can create and accomplish. Great job guys!
This is really cool. I’m really happy to see this, but don’t have the money to purchase it. :(
Curious to see the sample :)
Me too! :)
It would be great to get this book…try to get Playstation Store to sell this, l buy from there alot…;)
What is this Play Station Store you speak of?
Is there an online preview available (like a handful of sample pages viewable online)? I’m interested, but I’d like to be able to do a virtual flip-through before purchasing.
I’m putting together a sample now; it’ll be on the GTPEDIA web page within the next day or so.
Definitely going to grab this when I have the money.
I would love to have this! :D
Famine’s name is Andrew? Me too!! :D
I don’t know what’s more shocking, the fact I (sadly) can’t buy this; or that Famine’s name is Andrew.
Even though, great work guys! Looks great!
I will very much consider a hard copy of this. Looks like a great read.
good input everybody; glad to see so many people contributing for free while only a select few profit
Sorry, you’re pretty far off base with what you are trying to suggest there. Everyone who contributed data to this project did so voluntarily and they have been included in the book’s Acknowledgements.
Yeah, it took two years because we generated every piece of information in this book from scratch. Some information required specific circumstances and help was sought from a few individuals with appropriate access – like Korean GT: Concept or some of the stranger demo versions – who were told up front that this would be a for-profit venture and volunteered the information anyway; These people are credited in the Acknowledgements section.
No piece of information posted on GTPlanet by any uncredited member was used and buying the book – just like buying a GTPremium account – will help continue the survival of the site.
Great work, fellas. I’ll be getting the PDF, no doubt
Now, take a well-deserved break and let’s have a look at that GTPlanet “Feedback” section on this great site. The old girl could use a good condensing and updating, eh?
My God fellas – amazing commitment! How can you not become nauseated by all things GT after such a huge project haha XD
And yes you nailed it RaW, the old girl could most definitely benefit from some love. Its a severely underrated section of this site.
Look though the original first copy during the GTP gathering in Austin. A must have for any GT fan.
I might want this for Christmas, even though I’m hooked to the Forza series. Good to see that I haven’t forgotten.
Great work Jordan. If I can scrounge up the money, I’ll purchase a copy.
This is going to be a problem, cause my Google Site is called GTPedia.
How is that going to be a problem? It’s just a book…
Exactly how is you’re google site going to be a problem with a book?
GTPedia is a terrible name for both the web site and the book. zondaman2, you should be thankful for the extra exposure your site is sure to get. I didn’t even know yours existed until I Googled the book’s title! You could simply put something in the footer of each page saying that the site is not affiliated with GTP and its book to help minimize confusion.
Hey all, there was a small error in the checkout system which over-estimated shipping charges. If you thought shipping was too expensive, please take another look as this has now been corrected. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your patience as we work out the bugs in the software.
I got a bit worried by this; but all is well and I got charged correctly.
Thanks : )
Ha, I go to Best Buy to pick up the Killzone Trilogy only to come home and see this. Balls out effort guys. Fantastic effort on the greatest racing series to ever grace console systems. I’ll be picking up my copy of your digital version in the next few days. Gran Turismo Forever.
Thats a lot of very good work you two. I will be buying a copy and PDF. This is collectable when it’s all said and done.
Very groovy.
Famine’ name is Andrew :O
Now I’ve seen it all…
Now, seriously… this is a magnificent job people… well done!!!
I’ll be grabbing myself a copy soon! Top work guys!
Just ordered my copy : )
Now for the unbearable wait!….
Well done. I would go as far and say that this is the highest peak that GTPlanet has ever reached. Just like in marriage, will you guys be able to top this up during the following years?
I think so… ;)
Please just clear something up; I’m at checkout and it says “Amount total (USD) 42.00” that IS £24.00ish ain’t it?
Sorry I’m always just paranoid about these kinds of things XD
No, that’s near enough £30. The eBook is about £11, the hardcopy is £24 (inc postage) and the combo of hardcopy AND eBook is about £30 (inc postage).
That is awesome, nice work! I’ll be ordering the book version tonight.
Is there any possibility that we’ll see a version for e-readers?
Thanks, jacoja. The book has a lot of tables, which makes formatting tricky in other electronic formats. If it looks like there is a demand for it, I’ll consider designing a book for other platforms in the future. For now, though, PDF will be the only eBook option.
No problem, that’s understandable. I have a book on my e-reader which has different bits of text with borders wrapped around, and I think a few tables… It’s difficult to read because the text size needs to be constantly adjusted (too small in some areas), and the tables are sometimes split-up into two pages.
Can I get a signed edition? :D
Also, GTPedia should go on the tab headers too.
Ooh… I’ll take a signed copy, too. :D
I can, but you’ll have to get your copy over to Famine in the UK for his signature. :P
Awesome. :) It must have bit a little tricky working on this book with someone living in another continent.
*been
Should Speak to Kaz and get this bundled with GT6 special edition, With some inside info on it before release and some more data/details from the next year of GT!
Collectors Edition missed that Extra Factor i thought.
Hah, no we’re wholly unofficial.
Though if PD/Sony like what we’ve done here and ask us to write an official GT6 one…
Send a complimentary copy to Kaz, then you might, lol. but think i’ll be down for an e-copy for my ipad
I’ll be picking up my copy soon enough, great job guys.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #1:
You better like GT-Rs and when a DLC comes around expect nothing less.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #2:
Your friends and fellow GT community will complain about the GT-Rs, especially online. This is something you must get use to.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #3:
You must not be distracted by the poor sound accuracy of your car and instead focus on the awesome physics and renderings.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #4
Your friend and fellow GT community will complain about the sound quality, especially online. This is something you must get use to.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #5:
A good little tuning setup and racing soft tires is the way to go if you want to be fast.
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #6:
Your friends and fellow GT community will detest your work on your tuning setup and your racing soft tires, especially online. This is something you will have to get use to.
There ya have it, idk what more ya really need to know ;)
Fail post.
Oops, almost forgot!
GTPEDIA Rule of Playing #7:
Froza blows, Gran Turismo forever! This is something you will have to accept… or leave
I was just reading that in my Jeremy Clarkson… Voice
Nice one! That pretty much covers the basics. It’s too bad most users fail to take a joke.
I knew it was a joke I just think it’s funny reading it in Clarksons’s voice
Almost everything is better in Jeremy Clarkson’s voice lol
Great job & effort! If you ever need an App made for that, iOS/Android, let me know!
I want
What will we find in the book that is not already available from the site?
Condescending comments(?)
Lol, I mean No* condescending comments. :D
That’s OK – it’s a good question. There’s a lot of data in GTPEDIA, and it’s much more tightly organized and verified than anything you’ll find on the web, even on GTPlanet. I’ll also say this: I’ve been running this site for nearly 12 years now, and I learned a lot myself just while reviewing, editing, and formatting Famine’s rough draft of the book!
No, there’s plenty of those on the site already :D
There’s a chapter for each of the major ten releases (okay, nine and HD), each of which contains some information about the game – how it developed from before, what new features it brought and so on – and a section for the full list of cars, tracks, licences and events, each containing some prose about the changes to each from previous games. All the stats we could fit in about the cars/tracks/licences/events were shovelled in – the events list contains all prize money and all AI opponents, for instance. And a lot of the information isn’t even available on this site in any coherent fashion – I had to generate a lot of it from scratch. Okay, things like the GT4 and GT5 car lists are, but then I wrote those too!
There’s also section of prose about GT Academy, a trivia/Easter Egg section with some trivia for each game and a section containing information about some of the minor releases and giveaway versions. General stuff about Gran Turismo in general, hopefully with some facts you were aware of and we’re reminding you, hopefully some you never knew.
What you end up with is a condensed GTPlanet’s worth of actual information and then quite a bit more in a form you never need to be online to look at and never need the Search button for.
Thank you it sounds very intetesting looking forward to read it.
I’ll be getting this for myself100%
Thank you Famine and Jordan for putting in the effort to make such a fantastic product. : )
Could you actually help me; how much will this be (all in – price + p+p) in pounds(£). Thank you : )
It’s about £11 for the eBook and about £24 for the hardcopy (£13 + £11pp); Hopefully we’ll be able to do some European distro and bring that P&P down for EU folk (http://www.gtplanet.net/introducing-gtpedia-gtplanets-guide-to-the-world-of-gran-turismo/comment-page-1/#comment-136091)
Hopefully , it is quite high p+p.
The entire price though ain’t too bad.
Thanks for the reply ; )
Thanks, Xamado! It will show you the price in your local currency as you continue to checkout. At current exchange rates, though the eBook, paperback, and combo editions are £11.20, £12.45, and £18.69. Shipping for the paperback edition to the UK is £10.58.
No problem Jordan! : )
Its a really awesome book that GT fans have been waiting for.
I look forward to getting my copy X)
Im gonna get this :|
I feel like I have a new item to purchase. And a good read for the next month :)
Do want.
Can’t spare the $20 right now but will order one when I can!
GTPedia I love it!!
Good idea. Question? For all the people who doesn’t have english has native language, is it possible to have a sort of translation option?
They send you post-it notes.
The eBook’s PDF files are unencrypted, so you can copy and paste the text from them into an online translator. It would be great to sell the book in other languages in the future, but that’s not something we have the resources to put together at the moment.
Ok, good to know, because you know GT is international, and even if it’s the case, the rare time a member dare to speak in another language (even few words) you always find someone to say “speak in english”. Anyway, bon travail Jordan.
So if I download the e-book edition, I can download updates for free afterwards? How do updates get implemented for the paperback editions?
Yep, the updates will be free for every edition and will be available to download as PDF files via the GTPEDIA website when they’re released.
Will there be a UK based delivery service as I will begrudge paying more for the book to be delivered than the actual book itself!
That’s something we’re definitely looking into, depending on what the demand is for the book. If we start distributing them from the UK, I’ll post another announcement about that.
Also, note that shipping isn’t actually more expensive than the book itself, but I agree it is unfortunately high. That’s one reason we have the PDF option available, so you can enjoy it anywhere in the world without a shipping cost.
Shipping to Sweden actually is more expensive than the book itself. :( But it’s still not a very expensive book so I’ll have to think about it a couple of more times before i decide if it’s worth it.
International shipping is a single flat rate which is less than the cost of the book, Phouchg.
Sorry, guys, there was an error in the software which was indicating a higher shipping cost than what should have been displayed, which is why you both thought shipping was more expensive than the book. I have fixed this now. Apologies for the confusion!
Aha great now shipping isn’t more than the book any more. :) Thank you Jordan for fixing that!
I’ll be ordering one today asap.
