We first learned that GT6’s B-Spec mode was nearing release when some of Polyphony’s official European websites were updated with the first two in-game screenshots of the new driving mode. Today, we have even more information and screenshots thanks to a new article on the company’s Japanese blog.
Gran Turismo 6 B-Spec will apparently differ from what we saw in GT5, where players were tasked with “employing” a driver and training him to build up his driving skills. Instead, the feature will take a more hands-on approach in GT6, giving you granular control over how your driver behaves during the race.
Real-time commands will include overtaking, slipstreaming, changing lanes, and “acceleration and braking”. Send too many or inappropriate commands, and your driver will lose control and spin out. The post compares the feature to operating a remote-controlled car.
This announcement also confirms B-Spec will be included in the game’s next update, 1.16. It’s going to be a big one, as we learned yesterday it will also bring Midfield Raceway. Thanks to Imari for the English translation!

What’s with all the hate for B Spec? Does everyone on GTPlanet hate free credits?
No, we all enjoy leaving our old PS3’s running for hours and hours to earn fake credits. Makes them last longer don’t you know?
I love the B spec. and i had many exciting/close race Battles to win the 9 hours race at Tsukuba With the (underdog) Alpine a310 fully tuned , agast the amuse s2000gt1. Its also a great way to learn about tuning for best lap times. and tyre wear
I know the common thing on most of these things is to whine about new things that you don’t have to utilize if you don’t want to, and I know I’m going to catch flak just for saying that, but is anyone else really excited about midfield? I’ve been playing since Gran Turismo: The Real Driving Simulator. When midfield came around it quickly became one of my favorite tracks. Between that and Apricot Hill, which we already got back, I’m a happy boy. In fairness, I think track diversity is the most important part of a racing game. I, like there rest of you, am still waiting for the track maker, but at least we have something to do while we wait.
Huge waste of time.
Stop.
Go
I’m trying so hard being interested in this feature but I’m failing big time.
Gonna have to try it and see how it works before judging, but I think the vast majority of GT gamers would rather have had them nix B-Spec, perfect it for GT7 and give us the course maker that was a big selling point instead.
I also love all the “I hope they’re focusing on GT7”. Just like everyone who was playing GT5 said “Just wait until GT6!” You guys, we will never get a completed stable title until this way of thinking is extinguished.
Wow before releasing the better Course-Maker addition PD releases, as usual, a totally lame and BS addition.
B-spec was and will be the worst GT invention we ever had. Watching bugged AI drive against bugged b-spec driver is just plainly energie waste and in our energie-wasting Society how can anybody like this BS -_-
Just my few cents :D
Can`t wait to whip my Bob and make him spin around in total confusion.
Plus b spec can be handy for long races.
But where is track maker in this? I thoughtit would definitely be coming in this update and it looks like it won’t.
We haven’t ever heard anything official about a track maker since the announcement before release…….
Yes we have. We first heard it might be ready for the release of the game, indicating it was near complete. Then we heard it was 100x100km, then corrected to 50x50km, then Kaz finally corrected to “about” 20x20kms. Then we heard it was in final beta testing..maybe 8 months ago (don’t quote me).
From the horse’s mouth in June 2014 “I think you’re talking about the track maker, the Beta version is already working and in my hands now. When we can deliver it to users is still up in the air.” So far up in the air that Felix Baumgartner’s planning to jump from it.
Personally with the longest A spec race being half an hour long I don’t see the point of b(oring) spec mode…
for me the AI is just not robust enough to make it interesting…
but for those of you who use it… im happy for you that you are (finally) getting it… enjoy
I’m pretty stoked
Hope there are improved multiplayer functionalities
wow why not just drive it yourself.
we’ve done are racing career, now its time to hang up the racing boots and hire someone to race for us and train them to be as awesome as we were.
What the hell? I go away for a few days and this happens?!! I never doubted PD for a moment but damn all of this news at once is next to ridiculous lol!!! I love this “game”! Now just add the ability to turn and keep headlights on for real races and turn on the jumbotron at Le Mans and of course the track editor and this title will be well on it’s way to a console masterpiece, which it isn’t far from now so do it PD – I trust you. 8)
I think this is hilarious, a B-Spec mode where you can control acceleration and braking ?
We will have to wait see what it is like of course but it just amuses me, if you have to babysit its every move, wouldn’t it be simpler to say..hmm.. I dunno.. drive the thing ?
Zoo – it’s much much more than simply controlling the ability for “acceleration and braking”. It sounds like you’re unaware of the modes and intricacies, especially as it pertains to endurance races and I would suggest trying it before trying to sound funny and coming off looking a bit uninformed.
Yup. Maddens Raiders said it just right.
Oh dear oh dear me, did you not read ‘We will have to wait see what it is like of course’ ?..
and.. ‘IF you have to babysit it’s every move ?’
Apparently “we will have to wait and see” is too complicated a concept.
Considering the pattern of matching the A-spec and Time trials, I would be a bit surprised to NOT have the update in the morning. :)
Let me just go ahead and stand on the tracks before the hype train departs.
The update could come this week due to the rapid release of information and the double update in December, replacing January’s one.
Did anyone realize that the 2X Chapparel is Blue in the pictures and not the Black and White we have access to ??m
Yes, they mentioned in the news item about Mid-Field’s return that the Mazda LM55 and Chaparral 2X would become paintable in 1.16.
So I cant just walk away and let Bob grind in a ridiculously overpowered car like GT5?
Lame :-(
I’d have to guess you’ll still be able to do that. I think this slipstream and braking and overtake stuff is for those that want to actually feel like they have some control. Sort of an arcade type feature really, but fits in with the rest of the game.
With the PP limit you’ll never be able to take the regular Red Bull out and blow past 600pp cars, or anything like that. But there are a few events where the right car pretty much guarantees you a win, because the more forgiving the car’s handling, the better your driver will do. The Sauber Mercedes is really forgiving for me so I gave my Bob a shot with it, and he’s won several iA events on the mid-pace. And there’s literally no way to lose Special Stage X with an upgraded Huayra – it’s no different for AI than for a human holding the right stick down for 4 1/2 minutes. :)
Ah, ok, it’s not like the GT5 version… so PD has put more efforts to develop not a worse feature ever, but a REALLY worse feature ever; so worthless that i can’t imagine nothing else worse of this; we all (for me it’s sure) are asking for the course maker, real life cars, real world race track, a procedure for realistic racing, but PD has different agenda…
I hope their agenda is GT7. Really, GT6 has pushed the PS3 about as far as it can go. If they want a pretty game, and a realistic game, and a big, complex game with lots of features and things to do, I’d rather they focus on GT7. Because the PS4 runs rings around the PS3, and the games are rocking.
I think the gauges were the worse feature… But this could be a little bit more.
Is that you TenD? What happened to being all excited about “goodies” and “look how great Kaz is for what they did on the PS3”? You’re sounding kind of bitter buddy, you ok?…lol.
GT7 will come, don’t worry. Christmas 2016 will be a wonderful season for you…lol.
You morons can never be pleased, eh?
Too which morons are you referring?
next to the driver suit there is a pit thing on the left and the blue helmet/controller next to the right. What do you suppose the thing on the right is about.
Looks like its what you press to issue commands.
I’d like to name my drivers please.
Would be nice if we could. Customization is very much needed.
I hope you can use your own cars for the races.
Also, it would be cool to have a B-spec arcade mode, and the ability to earn credits like in gtpsp with the number of laps
Oh, so it’s like a mini-game?
What the…
If I understand correctly, GT6 B-Spec has now become an RTS compared to that of GT5?
I haven’t actually done the Nascar events yet. Might be a good way to try the B-spec feature :)
This article makes it sound like Bob is blindfolded and we have to guide him around the track.
In other words, only slightly more inept than the GT5 Bob.
@crowhop But unlike in GT5, if GT6 Bob screws up, it’s on you.
If they make a mobile app, it would be great. Gran Turismo on the go.
Finally! Looks great!
YES! I hope now I can take a more precise control over my driver and hace a true complete gane like GT deserved.
Will there be a totally new B-spec campaign though? Because a B-spec mode without any new events would be, in my opinion, quite useless.
I have to believe they’ll at least offer up some seasonal events to showcase B-spec. I’d wager one of the events will be Nascar, to make use of that slipstream command.
AMAZING! The world of GT6 is gonna be bigger than ever! Can’t wait for this update to unroll!
I am very excited for this! Best update so far.
It looks like it’s going to be.
