100 Days Before Release, GT5 a Top Seller at Amazon

As of July 24th, we’re now less than 100 days away from the launch of Gran Turismo 5 and sales already off to a great start, with pre-orders alone  holding the game steady in the top charts of the web’s largest retailer, Amazon.com. GT5’s already broken into the top 50 best-selling games on the site, and it’s dancing around the PlayStation 3’s top 10 list (these lists are updated hourly, making it difficult to pin anything down to a specific rank). It’s even more impressive when you consider this is only the Collector’s Edition we’re talking about here, which commands a $40.00 premium over the regular game.

The standard version of the game is still holding its own, currently ranking 39th overall in the PlayStation 3’s best-sellers and already takes the top spot in the racing category – beating out the other much-hyped and currently available first party title, Mod Nation Racers. The Collector’s Edition will only be produced in limited quantities, so it may be wise to reserve your copy now if you know you want it. Amazon also provides “release date delivery” to guarantee you’ll have the game in your hands at the same time everyone else does, so no need to worry about that.     Don’t think I’ll get the Ultimate Edition unless it comes with a wheel
    but if it’s just more “Stuff” then I don’t need and I’m happy with collectors

    I’m still waiting to see about the Ultimate Edition before I pull the trigger on a Collector’s!!! I’m sure this is PD’s way of making me buy a second, more expensive copy just to make sure I’m guaranteed a CE in the first place then release the details for the Ultimate when the CE is sold out…

    For me, the book alone is worth the extra $40. The die cast car and key chain are icing on the cake. :) If there is an even more ultimate edition, I’m on it. I hope the margins on these special editions are bigger than the regular game for Polyphony Digital. I really love supporting PD in anyway possible. After all, it’s funding GT6…

      haha I think PD is doing just fine in that department. Just about each of their games sells millions of copies, not to mention promotional deals they have with car companies.

      I have the CE preordered, but if the Signature Edition really has something great in it I would be interested. However the price point has to be just right as well.

    I might be in India for work when the game comes out so it will be waiting for me when I get back to the U.S…*sniff* Along with a cockpit with G27 that I’m thinking about building…*sigh* I suppose after all this waiting I can wait until December to play it.

    I just hope they fix contact penalties and shortcut penalties cause I’ve been playing GTP online l8ly and I’m finding a lot of cheaters and bs penalty rules!!! 4ex. I’m racing on suzuka and sum loser slams his brakes on purpose in front of me and THEY give me the contact penalty Wtf!? Hope they fix dat crap Or I swear imma get hella imo up in herre!!! *turns super sayian*

    i got it pre ordered at game stop (CE). though i have a question. it says that you get acess to a McLaren F1 stealth and some NASCAR, do you just type in the redeem code and get it in the career mode? or is it like the split/second gamestop code where u only get it in the arcade mode? anyone know?

    understandable NBH but no matter what version the game i recieve i will be happy,though as i pre-orderd does that mean i will have extras instead of the one to buy in the shops? Jordan do you have any info on this subject? I have not a clue

    I can’t work out why us in Europe haven’t been given a release date or confirmation of special editions. All we get is the basic game to pre order and a guessed date of Nov 2nd.

    I’m not pre ordering anything until I know what options I can pick from and when I will actually get the game.

    The Collectors edition isnt listed on amazon.co.uk… i would order it from the U.S site, but having it shipped all the way to London would be too expensive… anyone know when the Collectors edition will be on the .co.uk site?

    i forgot to point this out but normally the bugatti veyron spoiler would go up when the car goes about 140 miles per hour, but on forza 3 it doesnt come up. this also shows that turn 10 doesnt put as much effort in their games than pd does.they even had a documentary showing how turn 10 made the bugatti veyron and how much they knew about the car. even gtpsp accomplished this.

      Well you can switch that functionality off, so you could say they went into so much detail that they included that option.

      Its true, GT psp all the cars have animations, The SLR,Veyron, Enzo and even the Crossfires spoilers all pop up at the right speed, and in the case of the super cars slope back down at higher speeds and not forgetting the air breaks which never EVER get old when breaking hard in to a corner… and thats on the PSP, Forza is a great game and I enjoy it muchly, but you do feel that they didnt add that final polish that could have made it an awesome game!

      One of the funniest spoiler animations is the Honda HSC Concept (i think) with two massive flaps on each side of the rear trunk area that lift through turns at higher speeds. Left turns the right flap rises and vice versa to counter against body sway, i don’t know how much of a performance effect it actually had but it was obviously scrapped after it was showcased.

    i’ve got forza 3. i can give this game a 6 out of 10 and heres why. im going to go over the positives first. 1: the games environments are beautifully modeled. 2:the cars are also beautifully modeled that there will be times where if i had noting to do i would look at the cars on the game. 3:all the cars on this game handle differently. 4:there are alot of tuning options to chosse from. 5:the photo mode is awesome. 6:the online modes and community features r awesome. 7:the physics r pretty straight foward 8:the career mode is amazing and its guaranteed to keep u busy for about a mouth and a half. 9:the car roster is pretty big.(but its small compared to gt.) now the negitives. 1:even though all cars handle differently there would be times where the car would handle so bad that u would think that this car would handle much better in real life. 2:the cockpit view sucks so bad that there would b times when the drivers hand would go right through the shift bar. 3:their would b times where the rewind feature would b broken.(i discovered this recently when i was playing the le mans endurance race) 4:there is limited detailing of the undercarriage 5:fast production cars like the bugatti veyron and the lamborghini revention has horrible handling and does not represent the cars performance in real life. 6:the le mans prototypes damage model is very basic. 7:it lacks in rally cars and tracks. 8:they didnt bother to put pit crew animation on the game.(even gt4[which is on the ps2] put a fully detailed pit crew animation that took my breath away.)what i find positive about this is that u can at least rewind the whole piting process.

    despite of the negetives, forza 3 is a good racing game and for the gt fans out there that is desperately waiting for gt5, forza 3 can keep u busy till than forza 3 is a good racing sim and has everything a sim would have in it. but the thing is gt5 will do alot better at this.

      O.o .. what are u talking about … the game isn’t out yet .. i think u are talking about gt5 demo or prologue … the gameplay is diffrent from both of them and the demo doesn’t show u the real game so why don’t u wait for the full game and still know that gt5 prologue is better then forza 3 … forza 3 is a good game but it’s not realistic like gt5 prologue … and besides gt5 prologue is a demo too .. did u try the logitech gt5 prologue drift … it’s epic … so try it then come say what ever u want …….

      can’t wait for the full game >.< …

    why do forza freaks come onto this website to tell us they love forza? Who cares,it may be a decent game but it will never even get close to kaz’s creation,not a sausage length close.i commited social suicide for the gran turismo series and will continue to do so until my fingers die.a big thank you to kaz,PD and sony for many years of joy,fantastic job

    Does anyone know if the UK/EU edition for collectors are the same as the US one? Cuz it costs an additional 60USD for shipping to the UK, that will be a total 160USD for the thing delivered to my door. And anyone know how much it’s gonna be for the UK version? don’t say 99.99GBP cuz that’s approx 155USD, makes about the same…

    I preordered it over a year ago with ShopTo.net when it was still £32.99 and they have a policy where if the game isn’t at your door by release date, they give you £3. I’ve preordered Uncharted 2 and The Orange Box (PC version) from them in the past and they both arrived two days before release date :D

    TBH I wasn’t expecting for that. I know it sounds stupid but I never thought GT5 is gonna be a top seller of this year.

    I plan to buy it as soon as my secret local store break releases it but I won’t play it the same day. I’ll choose a good time to unseal the box and look what is inside hehe!

    God, I can’t wait for this moment. I alot of “Must-Have” game titles are coming starting from September which is “TDU2”.

    by “release date delivery” they mean it’ll get sent out 11/2 not arrive at your house obviously so I’m surprised so many people can live with waiting a day or 2 just to not make a trip to gamestop, walmart, whatever. I can’t. I’m going to gamestop the minute it opens

      I’ve ordered from Amazon with release date delivery in the past. I usually get an email from them about the game is being shipped out the day before its release date. All the games that I’ve ordered with Release Date Delivery I got it on release day.

      “Release date delivery” means Amazon will do their best to have the product delivered to you on its release date. The policy is described in detail here.

      I work for Canada’s most important video game distributor and we sell products to Amazon and unfortunately, they cannot ship the items more than one day prior to the release date. It’s called a street date and Sony (as well as most of the other brands – Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc), won’t allow them to ship a Street Dated product more than one day before its street date. Most of you will get it on the release day but some will also get it on Nov. 3rd simply because their warehouse is not close enough for overnight shipping to your place.

      BTW, Hugo, it’s not “can live with waiting a day or 2”, it’s more like “I’m sure to get my collector’s”. Amazon won’t get cut for allocations as they’re as strong as walmart. Gamestop will. That’s what a worldwide market is for.

    the collecters edition is a waste of money and not worth it for $100 woohoo a cheap keychain and a plastic car for $50 more. if you reserve the regular edition at gamestop you get 2 cars. just use the extra $50 for dlc cuz mostly likely there will be alot of it on psnstore and even more for psn plus subscribers

      You missed the most important piece. If you ask me, as a series long fan, the 300-page in depth book is worth the $40 alone.

      Besides, if you add up my PS3, HDTV, DTS-HD 7.1, Obutto cockpit+wheel the extra $40 is nothing. For the casual GT player the standard edition should be sufficient, but I don’t fit that mold :)

      (and die-cast != plastic)

      Exactly; the book has more value for me than any of the other stuff. Not $40 worth of value, but at least $20 and I’m ok with $20 for the other junk.

      DLC is digital, and can always be deleted.
      The book is FOREVA!!!
      Although I would like a shirt that says GT5 instead of the key-chain. Oh well, I’ll add it to the Shelby Cobra key chain I won from the contest I lost (fricken consolation prize).

    wish we got a bit more info for the UK release. i hold a pre order of the standard edition but i will cancel it when the collectors edition is confirmed for the uk and i can pre order it. just feeling really anxious at the moment. ill feel stressless when i get the collectors edition pre ordered

      I hope they realease a “SUPER ULTIMATE EXTREME” edition including a REAL SLS AMG with racing modifications, and a lifetime pass to the real Nurgurgring. And also, a GT5 game with a steering wheel built into the passenger side so your friend can challenge you while you’re lapping the ring. Upgrade for only $249,940.01 :)

    It would be interesting to see how the release of GT5 will boost the sales of PS3. I don’t know if it’s possible to make an accurate statistic survey about that, but it would be interesting…

      I HOPE, game reviewers will realize that GT5 is the best game out this year and should give GT5 game of the years instead of HALO Reach which we all know will be hyped by the 360 kids. HALO Reach shouldnt get game of the year because it asnt revolutionized anything. GT5 has revolutionized GT and Racing games in general.

      Halo Reach is too retarded to be described! That’s why ODST (a.k.a. ODLC) didn’t get game of the year, uncharted 2 did. Uncharted 2 was the ps3’s best game last year. And little kids are rare on the multiplayer.
