PlayStation’s social media channels have revealed the first gameplay video of Gran Turismo 7’s Daytona International Speedway, re-confirmed for the game just yesterday.
The clip shows both on-board and replay-style video of the circuit, returning to the Gran Turismo series after being absent through GT Sport. It looks like a Gr.3 race, featuring a mixture of GT3 and GTE cars from the real world, as well as the fictional entries like the Mazda RX-Vision.
One thing that fans will note is that the circuit isn’t exactly what we saw with the Easter Egg that teased it, or the image posted on Gran Turismo social channels yesterday.
While these previous pieces of promotion showed the track with the additional NASCAR chicane, added in 2020, the video here shows the classic “sports car” course, with the infield and single bus stop chicane. That’s the version of the track that, along with the tri-oval, appeared in Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6.
Of course that doesn’t mean that the NASCAR layout won’t appear in GT7 — after all the video shows a Gr.3 race, so the sports car layout as used in the 24 Hours of Daytona is most appropriate — but it’s not the first time we’ve seen a different circuit to the one teased by the light traces.
It’s also worth noting that several of the cars in the clip sport different liveries to their GT Sport counterparts. That includes the Lamborghini Huracan, Subaru WRX, and Alfa Romeo 4C, as previously seen in other videos, but also the Honda NSX, Lexus RC F, and Jaguar F-Type.
There’s now only seven weeks until Gran Turismo 7 launches, on March 4 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and we’re expecting plenty more videos and teasers in the coming weeks.
