A new week of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with the event format returning to its regular look after last week’s road car shenanigans.
It’s a third week in a row for content that made its debut in the 1.48 update last month to appear in Daily Race A, as this week’s star car is the Nissan Skyline GTS-R. This classic, sporty coupe was the top model in the range — during an era when there was no GT-R model — and served as a homologation special for Group A racing.
If you hadn’t picked one up in the couple of weeks after the update, you’ll need to borrow one for the race as it’s no longer available in the Used Car Dealership. That’s no particular hardship, as it comes with the Comfort Soft tires required for the race, but it does mean you’ll only be able to use the single, standard blue-black livery.
It’s a five-lap race for the Skyline around the Goodwood Motor Circuit. You’ll need to be aware of the “False Start Check” on the grid start, which penalizes you with a brief loss of engine power if you jump the start. In order to avoid this, hold the car on the brakes or handbrake from when the final start light illuminates and until they all go out to start the race.
You might also want to turn the volume down a bit on you TV or headphones, as the Skyline has a speed warning chime that kicks in at 102km/h (very roughly 64mph). As you’ll be doing much more than that for most of the race, that’s a lot of non-stop binging and bonging.
Races B and C return to their usual Gr.3 and Gr.4 events, with the sprint race this week being the former. In both cases you’ll have the ability to adjust brake balance, but no other settings.
For Race B you’ll be heading to the fictional Dragon Trail Gardens track, for a straightforward five-lap blast. As usual you can select any car from the Gr.3 class, with Racing Hard tires being the required rubber.
Finally there’s an 11-lap race at the Kyoto Driving Park Yamagiwa circuit for the Gr.4 cars. Again, you can pick any car from the Gr.4 category, and while we often see one or two cars coming to the fore as the most competitive options — what with the class featuring a wide range of powertrains — there looks a few choices this week.
Whatever you pick you’ll have to contend with a 4x tire wear multiplier which, even on the required Racing Medium tire, doesn’t look like it’ll be an issue even for the biggest tire-shredders in the class. However there’s also a mandatory pit stop, so you might like to sacrifice a couple of seconds in the pits for a few tenths on every subsequent lap.
While you don’t need to pick up fuel or tires during your stop, failing to make the pass down the pit lane will result in a one-minute penalty added to your time after the race.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, July 1.
