Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Spanish Fly

Some of the new content added in the most recent game update is making its debut in the Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, starting today.

Perhaps a little surprisingly that’s another outing for the brand-new Gran Turismo F3500-A, a fictional F1 car based on the early-90s’ era of the sport. That means the car now stars in a Daily Race, a Time Trial, and a Weekly Challenge, all in the same week.

Of course it appears in Race A, which remains unranked in terms of Driver Rating (DR). DR updates are turned off for the event, so you’ll neither gain nor lose DR no matter how well or badly you do. Beware that Sportsmanship Rating (SR) updates remain active.

It’s a seven-lap sprint around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in its appropriate, almost era-correct “No Chicane” version which skips out the final RACC chicane. You don’t need anything except the standard Racing Medium tires, so the car is as it comes whether you use your own or borrow one.

However there is one additional note: False Start Check is enabled on the Grid Start. That means that if move at all between the final light coming on and them all going off to start the race, you’ll take an on-the-spot power-loss penalty that lasts for as long after the start as the amount by which you jumped it.

For Race B we have a much shorter description. It’s a four-lap race around the Suzuka Circuit in your choice of Gr.4 car on standard Racing Hard tires.

While it’s not limited to AWD cars like last week’s event, it seems that — even after a BOP change with the update — AWD is still the way to go. That said, the form looks to have tilted back towards the old favorite Alfa Romeo 155 rather than the Lamborghini, but there are some mid-engined, rear-drive cars in the mix too.

This week’s Race C has a mild strategy aspect to it this week by way of a mandatory pit stop, but otherwise looks pretty straightforward too.

It’s a nine-lap race around the Nurburgring GP course for your choice of Gr.3 car on Racing Medium tires, and with only a mild x5 tire wear multiplier you should be able to reach the end of the race on one set with very little effect on your lap times even towards the end.

The mandatory stop merely requires you to take a trip down the pit lane — anywhere between the end of lap one and the start of lap nine. Taking on fuel and tires isn’t required, so just skip through these menu options and make sure you don’t cross the pit lane lines on entry or exit.

Failing to make your stop will earn you a one-minute penalty added onto your race time. Crossing the pit lane lines gets you a three-second penalty each time which you’ll need to serve on-track in the penalty zones.

Once again, and for the third successive week, Race C features a Grid Start with a False Start Check too. Make sure you hold the car on the brakes or handbrake until the lights go off to start the race.

Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in GT7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating after each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, February 10.
