A new update for Assetto Corsa Competizione, available today, has opened up the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series version of the game for cross-platform multiplayer racing.
The update brings crossplay to all multiplayer modes in Assetto Corsa Competizione on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, allowing players on either platform to find more opponents in public and private online events.
Although it is somewhat limited the mode nonetheless allows players to find lobbies with crossplay enabled in any multiplayer mode including private lobbies — opening up a potentially larger player pool for those who operate their own leagues.
Crucially though, PC remains isolated, without the possibility of tapping into the console playerbase. This is likely due to some of the limitations of the console version — such as smaller grid sizes — or possibly because private servers are free on console but not on PC…
It comes at an interesting time for ACC, as 2024 is set to be another solid year for the title. The Nurburgring 24 Hour course is confirmed to be coming to the game, following the N24’s inclusion under the SRO umbrella, in a “Season 2024” update early in the year, but there’s more content besides that too.
After more than a little wait, the game is set to receive a whole new category of vehicle from January 2024, with the GT2 Pack DLC. First announced back in the summer of 2022, this pack will add cars from the SRO GT2 class.
Although it’s not yet known which cars from the class will be included, Kunos Simulazioni has teased the Porsche 911 GT2 RS ClubSport EVO and the loosely related Porsche 935 as part of the pack. There are a further six cars homologated for the category, including models from Brabham and Maserati, which we’d expect to be confirmed in due course.
Naturally the GT2 Pack DLC and Season 2024 updates will arrive first for PC before landing on the Gen9 console version at an as-yet unannounced date.
