You might think the Chiron could do with being a little lighter — after all, it does tip the scales at 4,200lb. It seems that Bugatti agrees, but not quite in the same sense.
A more nimble, lightweight “Bugatti Divo” is just around the corner, but Bugatti has also improved the Chiron. Not by reducing weight, but by adding light.
If you’re up for ordering a Chiron, you can now add “Sky View” to the already heaving options list. Sky View is, in effect, a fixed sunroof option for the Chiron, although that doesn’t really do justice to the concept.
With Sky View, Bugatti adds two glass panels in the Chiron’s roof. Each is about 25 inches by 17 inches, casting more natural light into the cabin than the standard car. The panels sit above the driver and passenger seats, and bring a look that harks back to Bugattis of old, like the Type 57SC Atlantic.
These panels use a newly developed type of laminated glass. It employs thin glass sheets, separated by four intermediate layers. Bugatti says that this reduces wind noise while not impacting on the structural properties of the Chiron — in fact it reckons it improves overall vehicle stiffness.
Sky View also comes with tinted glass, to protect your privacy. This roof option adds over an inch to the Chiron’s cabin headroom too.
You’ll be able to see the Chiron Sky View roof when Bugatti presents it for the first time at Monterey Car Week in California, in August 2018. However it’s available to order immediately, if you like what you see in the reveal images. And you have a few million to spare.
