Bugatti’s Vision Gran Turismo Confirmed

Polyphony Digital and Bugatti have together put an end to the speculation – the exclusive car manufacturing brand has designed a Vision GT car for Gran Turismo!

Quite what the car will look like is still a mystery, as the latest teaser image seems only to be a composite tub – though this itself hints at some serious motorsports potential. This fits in with Bugatti’s comments of “the inspiration for our future lies in our past”, as the manufacturer made its name in the 1920s and 1930s with early Grand Prix racing and successes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

With the brand most recently being the manufacturer of extremely limited production multi-million dollar supercars for the very wealthy – 2005’s Veyron and the 1989 EB110 are its only products since 1963 – what is it doing making a Vision GT car for millions of gamers to enjoy? Wolfgang Durheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles, explains:

Bugatti is the world’s most exclusive super sports car brand and Bugatti cars are only available to an extremely small group of automobile connoisseurs. At the same time Bugatti is admired and loved by countless people throughout the world. We highly appreciate this enthusiasm. The ‘Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo’ will make our brand available to them as well as to gamers and high-performance aficionados throughout the world, only very few of whom will be able to afford a real Bugatti. They can all benefit from the success of our brand. This is a project for our fans.

With a global reveal set for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the fans won’t have to wait long to see what the final product looks like – and while many may be anticipating something other-worldly like the Chaparral 2X or the SRT Tomahawk, Bugatti has something far more realistic in mind according to design chief Achim Anscheidt:

With the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, we have not developed a fantasy product of the type which is normally seen in this category of the game. had the clear goal of developing a vehicle which could also be driven on a real race circuit if it left the virtual world. ‘Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo’ stands for authenticity.

Though he goes on to add that performance will be ‘exaggerated’ – a strange concept in the context of a manufacturer for whom quad-turbo engines and 270mph cars is the norm – it should nevertheless be a car not too dissimilar from Bugatti road cars of the future, including next year’s Veyron successor the Chiron.

Everybody love bugatti i wonder why.Should give us cars below 100 hp what is up with this hiper cars srt tomahavk now bugatti.

  2. Speed Fiend

if this is the engine cover/spine of the vehicle then, judging by the shadow, it may have one hella large dorsal fin.

  3. binbin90

I like that Bugatti’s going the more realistic design like the BMW (and VW? Their cars aren’t really concept-ish looking), it kinda gives the future car more replayability :)

    1. Tenacious D

Most definitely. Plasma powered flights of fancy are okay, I suppose, but I prefer a concept car that’s grounded in reality. And if it also comes in racing trim a la the FT-1 and Citroen, I’m even more in.

  4. Kurei

Speculation ?, what speculation ?, was the pit-box teaser with GT logos present somehow missed ?. Anyone who’s been around GT long enough should know that’s how they play this ‘PR game’ these days.

Yeah I mad, though not over this specifically.

    1. Tenacious D

@Austin, you miiiight see me in AC someday, but I don’t know, I find it kind of boring. Not sure about rFactor – I assume you mean rF2. RaceRoom is much more my speed as far as pure sims go.

Of course, none of those games have a Bugatti at all to my knowledge, and even with Forza 6 on the horizon, ba-dum-bum, which I’m still debating over, the game I really want to race in is GT7.

  5. GTman1996

So my impression is that (relating this to the veyron) that is the engine cover, the skinnier part would extend onto the roof, with the vertical stabilizer stretching back to where the “spoiler” would begin. Any thoughts?

Driven by the Bugatti/PD platform Gran Turismo 7 Engine and Vehicle creator engine.. Players will be required to build their very own first car at the start of the game. They will have a very limited amount of money (and brains) .. Which should produce some pretty funny if not interesting sights online!!

    1. dxm8975

Me too in regard that how capable players can be in “designing” their own very first car – if not so prospective. :D

    1. dxm8975

lol we all have huge difficulty keeping leash of the car when we drive it at a real circuit as well as in in-game race tracks, but to me the chassis of the car looks more like that of an futuristic Formula 1 or LMP cars reminiscent of Nike One 2022 or Audi R18, so it’s not going to be quite a big deal I guess.

  7. Ben Rogue

Looks like an engine cover for an LMP style vehicle, those sections on the right being where the doors would curve over the roof. Though I could be completely wrong and that could be the nose of the vehicle

    1. another_jakhole

Those were my initial thoughts. Seems a bit too clear to be what it seems. I’m really hoping it’s LM inspired and for future GT related content, if VW has a partnership as strong as I hope it is.

    2. Tenacious D

I would absolutely love it if the Vision GTs were designed with a racing form factor in mind. The Citroen and FT-1 racers are two of my faves, though the Citroen isn’t really a VGT car. It still fits the mold like a glove.

Having said that, I don’t want to see any more hypercars that can only compete with the Red Bull and Tomahawk X. Just make it able to run alongside a Ford GT, Diablo and Pescarolo and I’m good.

  8. TheEvstar93

Sweet! I look forward to this one! I really love the VGT project and I think it’s a great way to show what car makers will do when they’re allowed to roam free and do what they like.

    1. Tenacious D

Also agree. Absolutely love half of these Vision GTs, and I’m very much looking forward to what Bugatti throws our way. And from the tease, at least one form of it will be a race car. All for it! Would love to race the EBug against the Toyota FT-1.

  9. HarVee

How can the performance be exaggerated, yet the car will be designed with realism in mind. How is that not a contradiction? You can’t exaggerate the performance, yet design it so it feels like it could pass as a real car.

    1. Famine

You know the Bugatti Veyron? Imagine putting a Gran Turismo Stage 4 turbo on it.

      Real road car, exaggerated performance.

    1. TheEvstar93

It most likely won’t be like the Chaparral. Bugatti is more of a high end luxury supercar maker. I’m not a laser powered single seater 2025 Tron Legacymobile would properly count as luxury. But it’ll be good, I can tell you that!

    2. TheEvstar93

      * I’m not sure a laser powered single seater 2025 Tron Legacymobile would properly count as luxury..

  10. AlexN8710

Who cares? Give us an EB110SS if you HAVE to keep adding content to an old game.

GT7. For the love of God, GT7.

    1. SVPSkins

I dont understand gamers like you Alex. GT6 is still pretty new for the PS3 and still has alot life left.

    2. Tenacious D

I completely understand where Alex is coming from. DriveClub is showing what’s possible in graphics on PS4, and P CARS is showing what’s possible in simulation on PS4 – with up to 50 freaking race cars!

Believe me when I say I still love GT6, but… it is old. PS3 is old. The bots’ performance is haphazard and mediocre. Outside of a few events like the I-A Super GT races, the difference between first and last can be more than a minute and a half! I have to race a car about 80% of the event’s PP rating or less in order to get the bots to fight me. They do, but get a lead of one second or so, and they give up. I’ve been spending almost all my racing time in Race Room for the past three weeks, and the recklessness of the bots aside, the races tend to be quite a blast. Racing in GT6 is fun… CAN be fun… but it’s not a blast anymore. RR has spoiled me rotten. And the next gen graphics in these other racers is to die for.

Still enjoying GT6 when I get hungry for that huge car list, and the Nurburgring is sublime, but GT7 has GOT to release next year, or have a reveal. It must.

    3. dxm8975

      >Tenacious D
I’m somewhat for Alex as well, and personally I would love PD to hone AI’s performance and render these fresh new models appear as the opponents in the race events in the game…

In my view, no matter if the creators of the game set their mind on adding these new models including what they are going to unveil in “Bugatti’s Vision Gran Turismo” or EB110 it doesn’t make much sense as these cars are available only in the dealers without any of the opportunity to encounter as foes driven by mods in in-game race events, which I personally found so disparaging. Literally they only end up showing off what they came up in their head instead of creating changes at some point(The same happened when they added Toyota TS030 in the patches after the release of the game – some people might have been happy to be able to use/try driving the car for once in the game but to me it was unsatisfactory since I had no clue to grasp how far the performance of the car can go aside from driving it all on my own.), along with haphazard performance of Artificial Intelligence it makes the game less impressive and cringe-worthy rather than giving it spices with increased number of cars accessible in GT mode.

So with that said, I would prefer them to be featured in GT7 in place of GT6, all the more that it’s to be launched next year.

    1. another_jakhole

He did say it would be a car that would suit the real world (race tracks). I wonder if they limited the top speed. Well it’s not like he said it could take part in a series.

For this car, I’m thinking the designers will have to have given PD the ok to model the interior. Race car or not, Bugatti seem proud of everything about what goes into their cars. I mean, they showed us the monocoque of the interior for crying out loud

    2. KiroKai

Same was expected for the Aston with the designers all proud about the material selection, didn’t happen though. PD’s rule seems to be, if there’s a roof we don’t model the cockpit, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

    1. chengman

Well yeah. A 1000hp road car was considered a normal car for them, while Ferrari was just struggling to push the 600hp mark with the Enzo

    2. another_jakhole

Struggling? Ummm, I think Ferrari weren’t going for maximum output with the Enzo. Other things in mind.

    3. KiroKai

Ugh, is this bait? Am I falling for it? Enzo came out in 2002 with closer to 700hp while Bugatti was still struggling 4 years to put the Veyron in production at that point.
