The latest Gran Turismo Sport update arrived earlier today, bringing along some new content and a few changes under the hood. However, there’s a much more significant and surprising change afoot, which could radically alter the official 2020 FIA Season for many hopeful finalists.
In order to celebrate the arrival of the new Mazda RX-Vision GT3 to Gran Turismo Sport this week, Sony and Mazda are bringing a couple of in-game competitions to keep fans busy.
If you’ve got to go fast, this fortnight’s GT Sport Time Trials will be right up your street. Both events feature some of the quickest machines in the game, and in the real world too, set on fictional high-speed circuits.
A Volvo designer Instagram account has revealed the existence of a Vision Gran Turismo car which has never seen the light of day. The account, “wedesignvolvo“, is about as close to official as you can get, run by Volvo designers. While they are unable to head into work at the moment, the team is sharing its old work on social media.
There’s a new set of three GT Sport Daily Races for players this week, and it’s a rare week without a road car. All three events are for track ready machines only, with a little twist — and we hope you like Racing Hard tires.
Kazunori Yamauchi has taken to Twitter to reveal that there’s a new GT Sport update heading our way this coming week. Although he cautioned us at the beginning of the year that GT Sport updates may get less frequent, this makes a second successive month with a content update.
Energy drinks brand Red Bull is the latest company to stage a virtual race series for pro drivers and celebrities, but there’s a little twist. The event, called “Homestretch”, will use GT Sport for a six-week series, which Red Bull says is a “playful take” on the format.
Gran Turismo’s ‘Vision Gran Turismo’ project has provided us with many weird and wonderful cars. Since the scheme first started, back with 2013’s Gran Turismo 6, we’ve seen automotive brands clamor to have their concept cars included. Some have even come back for a second attempt and, it turns out, Bugatti was one of those brands.
A couple of weeks back, a patent filing from German prestige manufacturer Porsche leaked out onto the internet. The filing showed a 3D model of what appeared to be a new hypercar of some kind from the brand, leading to a lot of speculation about a successor to the 918 Spyder.
The one-off events are coming thick and fast in GT Sport, with Audi revealing its second this month. This new Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo Challenge is part of the brand’s #RaceHome campaign, which it’s running both to keep its professional drivers and its fans busy while much of the world is cooped up at home.
This coming week is one of Japan’s biggest annual holidays: Golden Week. To celebrate — and also to mark the hiatus in world affairs right now — GT Sport and Red Bull are running a competition in the game.
Update: On May 8, Polyphony Digital pushed out a new set of Terms and Conditions in the UK for the game’s FIA mode, which modified the “Prizes” section. Previous versions of the rules included laid out Live Event attendance as a prize — including flights, transfers, hotel, and meals — with a value of around $3,000, and trophies where applicable.
