Codemasters has revealed a batch of juicy new content coming to GRID next month. The Season 2 expansion brings along six new vehicles, new sections for the career mode, and a new circuit with multiple configurations, across PS4, Xbox, and PC.
“More like a support race instead of the main event.” That was GTPlanet’s verdict on GRID upon its release a few short weeks ago. While the reboot of Codemasters’ beloved circuit racer retains the visceral on-track thrills you expect from the franchise, it lacks the substance to match its style.
Racing games take many shapes, forms and sizes. There’s no denying that for every superb title there are just as many others that fall short. For me, that is very curious. At the end of the day, a racing game is a simple premise: cars on a track, some drama thrown in there — boom — enjoy the game. We’re only two weeks away now from GRID’s amended launch date of October 11. The game, a reboot of the GRID (or Race Driver: GRID, if you prefer) series will land on PS4, XBOne, and PC in two Fridays’ time, with a couple of days’ early access for Ultimate Edition owners.
It’s hard to imagine we’ve gone more than five years without a new GRID. Once among the elite racing franchises out there, many fans expected Codemasters’ circuit-based series to continue to flourish on this most recent generation of consoles — but it didn’t.
Codemasters has shown off the full list of locations for next month’s GRID. The track-focused racer will feature 13 distinct spots at launch, with a handful of franchise debuts amongst them.
After what we’d describe as a carefully managed car list reveal for GRID over the last couple of months, Codemasters has decided to unplug the cork. Although there’s still just over six weeks until the game hits the shelves, we’ve now got what Codies describes as “almost” the full car list in one hit.
Codemasters has confirmed a further 10 cars for the upcoming return of GRID. Featuring an F1 car, modern prototypes, and tuner models, it offers a little something for everyone.
Codemasters announced today that its reborn racer GRID will be launching four weeks later than originally planned, with a new release date of October 11.
