Thanks to a Q&A thread hosted here in GTPlanet’s Forums, with questions being answered by Ian Bell (the head of Slightly Mad Studios) along with The_American (the man voicing the in-game spotter), we’ve now learned about a few features that are planned to further evolve the Project CARS 2 experience.
Earlier this week, Slightly Mad Studios released new details on the “Online Championship” mode in Project CARS 2. This new feature allows players to create a league-style format championship consisting of several rounds. Players will have the ability to set each session’s details, along with the race duration, condition of the track, and schedule.
Head of Slightly Mad Studios Ian Bell has been answering questions related to Project Cars 2 here in the GTPlanet Forums. In collaboration with Ian and SMS, we have created a dedicated Q&A thread to make it easier for members of our community to ask him questions and to organize his responses.
With the leaked trailer, official trailer and general information blowout, you’d be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed with all the latest coming out about Project CARS 2. Here’s a quick summary of everything we know so far. There’s a lot to get through, so let’s begin!
Now that we’ve formally had the cover removed on Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS 2, many YouTube videos showing off the game have been revealed to the public.
After four days of teasing on the Project CARS official Twitter account, Slightly Mad Studios has revealed the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated Project CARS 2. The latest entry in the series, which will launch this year, makes it’s debut in the 60-second video which gives us some more insight into the cars, environments and tracks we can expect from the game.
After having its trailer leaked at the end of January along with an interesting but mysterious Twitter countdown, Project CARS 2 plans on hitting even bigger feats than its predecessor. One of these feats is something that many racers will admire: laser scanned tracks.
Following a leaked trailer last week, Project CARS 2 is now being officially teased on the Twitter account for the series. The countdown began on Saturday and it looks like come Wednesday we’ll have some sort of reveal for Slightly Mad Studios’ latest racer, given the cryptic numbers that have been appearing.
We’ll call this a surprising start to the week: Youtube user Vortlas SimRacing has uploaded a never-before-seen unofficial trailer for Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS 2. While we must stress the unofficial aspect—nothing has been confirmed by SMS at this point—this is the first footage we’ve seen of the game that is scheduled to release in 2017, and there is a lot to digest.
This year has certainly been kind to racers on the Xbox One so far: just earlier this month the Forza Horizon 3 Car Pass was up grabs to Live subscribers for 40% off, and it appears the Xbox team has already outlined its plans for February. Another racing game will be the highlight, this time offered for free through the Games with Gold program.
With the spotlight being shined on racing eSports events like the upcoming ESL Multi-Class Championship, it should come as little surprise that Project CARS’ successor will be featuring a driver rating system to help filter different players by their abilities in online races.
If one were to make a list of innovations that have changed the way we play video games in recent years, eSports would be near the top. It’s safe to say that eSports has boomed over the last few years and could be well on its way to being classified as a regulated and officially-recognized sport.
Earlier this week, we named Project CARS 2 as one of the things set to make 2017 a great year for sim racing. While news remains sparse on the title — unless you’re one of the backers of the project — it sounds like the silence will be broken soon, according to Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell.
In a recent interview with Slightly Mad Studios’ Creative Director Andy Tudor during the Red Bull 5G tournament, eSPORTS+CARS’ Tom Brooks learned more about Project Cars 2 and how it will be involved in world-recognized eSports competitions. Andy stressed that a good relationship with major organizer ESL helps, and players won’t have to wait for in-game integration:
Project CARS’ latest eSports tournament drew to a close over the weekend, with £4500 being dished out across the lucky winners on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Streamed live on Twitch, the best drivers on Slightly Mad Studios’ 2015 racer went head-to-head across two 15 lap races on British circuits Brands Hatch and Oulton Park in the Ginetta GT3 racer. The end results were anything but tame with such a huge prize at stake.
The climax of the 2016 Ginetta x Project CARS eSports Cup is about to get underway. This weekend 45 selected semi-finalists are going to compete for the championship trophy and a three £1,500 cash prizes. Scheduled for today and tomorrow, the big finale will be streamed live on Twitch, which you can watch above. Is everyone ready?
Today seems to be full of surprises. The unusual Porsche avatars on Xbox are one thing, but a free edition of an existing game is something different altogether. Hot on the heels of the news that the game has sold two million copies, Project CARS – Pagani Edition launches today, exclusively on Steam.
The men and women over at Slightly Mad Studios had cause for celebration this week, as their 2015 multi-platform sim racer hit another sales threshold. Project CARS first crossed the seven-figure mark shortly after launch in June 2015, and has now doubled that amount to two million.
Quick: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read the word ‘Ginetta’? Is it the manufacturer’s storied history of producing sports cars for the aspiring racecar driver? Perhaps the name rings a bell because of games like Gran Turismo or, more recently, Project CARS. Or maybe no significance comes to mind at all.
