A while back we reported on a (frankly fantastic) RC tribute of the Gran Turismo franchise. The creator of that video has paid homage to another veteran of the sim racing world, and this time around, the subject is Colin McRae Rally. This is a must watch.
Alexandre Synger’s flawless recreation of the title is an engrossing watch, opened with a shot-by-shot introduction that mirrors the original. This leads into a sequence that recreates choosing your car and track in the game — the attention to detail here is almost surgical in its precision. The soundtrack gets us all nostalgic too, remembering the good times we had with the game.
When the racing kicks off, we really get to see Synger’s well-honed directing skills. The racing venue is Auvergne in France and the cars of choice are the Lancer Evo, Peugeot 206 and of course, McRae’s famous Scooby WRX.
Each car screams through the dirty roads as the HUD tracks each of their individual times. Like the GT tribute, there’s some light comedy thrown in, which includes chickens getting ran over and a collision with some spectators. It sounds grim on paper but the execution is cutesy enough to make you chuckle.
There’s some other good moments in the video but we won’t ruin them all. This is one of Synger’s finest works to date and we’re very impressed with the sheer quality of the production. It makes us wonder how cool an RC version of the rally title would have been. For now, this tribute is satisfying enough.
If you really enjoyed this video, be sure to check out the rest of Synger’s channel. There’s parodies of franchises like the Fast and Furious that are just as fun to watch.
