Saber Interactive has announced that the next game in the Dakar series, Dakar Desert Rally, will launch on October 4, for PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox One/Series.
The game is developed by Saber Porto which previously developed Dakar 18 as Bigmoon Entertainment before its acquisition by Saber in 2019.
DDR will try to replicate one of the most dangerous and longest races in the world, featuring the 2020, 2021, and 2022 editions of the Dakar Rally. These were the first races in the event’s history to take place in Saudi Arabia.
In total the game will feature 30 stages set in an open-world environment where you have to choose the best route to the next checkpoint, to balance speed, distance, and survival.
That’s made even more challenging by the various vehicle types available. Just as in the real thing, you’ll be able to tackle Dakar Desert Rally in cars, trucks, quads, UTVs, and even motorbikes.
There’ll be more than 150 vehicles across the five classes, covering official entries from all three runnings of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia. Players who opt for the Deluxe Edition will also receive the 1987 DAF Turbo Twin and 1990 Peugeot 405 T16, as well as five post-launch DLC packs with other new vehicles, as well as new events and maps.
Those who pre-order the game will receive the electric Audi RS Q e-tron, which became the first EV to win a desert rally by claiming the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in 2022.
Dakar Desert Rally will also feature a full day-night cycle, and dynamic weather from across all four seasons. That’ll include thick mud, rain and snow, sandstorms, and of course the unrelenting desert sun.
You’ll be able to use authentic navigational roadbooks for finding your way through the Saudi terrain, and there’s both single player and online multiplayer for up to four players at once.
The game is available to pre-order now, ahead of its official launch date on October 4.
