The realities of coronavirus quarantines around the world are starting to set in, but for PlayStation gamers at least there’s a crack of light peeking through the gloom. Off-road racing sim DiRT Rally 2.0 will become available for free to all PS Plus subscribers this month.
It’s part of the monthly benefits offered to PS Plus subscribers. Each month Sony offers up two free games, which you can add to your library at no cost and download whenever you wish. If your PS Plus expires you’ll lose access to them, though you only have to resubscribe to regain access.
DiRT Rally 2.0 is part of April’s package, along with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End — the most recent game in the Uncharted saga, released in 2017. However, and apologies to Nathan Drake, it’s 2019’s rally game we’re more interested in.
We reckoned DR2 set new standards for off-road racing when we reviewed it back in February 2019, becoming a great racing game beyond just the confines of its sub-genre subject matter. Since that initial launch, Codemasters has continued to improve the title, adding loads more content including a pack themed around British rally legend Colin McRae.
PS Plus subscribers will only get access to the base game, without any of the DLC. However it may prove a tempting enough introduction for players to splash out on the Game of the Year edition which arrived only a week ago. This includes all four seasons of DLC and the McRae pack too.
Players will be able to download DiRT Rally 2.0 for free from April 7 through May 4. For those who do not have PS Plus, or play on the Xbox platform, the free trial version of the game is also still available.
