As the Indy 500 race gets underway, Slightly Mad Studios has confirmed the full 2016 IndyCar lineup is coming to Project CARS 2.
The announcement comes days after news that a handful of classic Indy 500 machinery will also be part of the PCARS2 experience. In addition to Indy Motor Speedway, the game will feature all of last year’s teams, drivers, and cars. This includes both Honda and Chevrolet aero kits, for speedways and road courses alike.
In the quest for realism, SMS employed Honda driver James Hinchcliffe. Encouragingly, Hinchcliffe found the digital Dallaras fairly accurate out of the box. “There were some little balance discrepancies from the real thing,” he recalls, “just sort of how it reacts on some of the high-speed stuff, how it reacts with some of the low-speed stuff.”
With the 2016 IndyCar season confirmed, the big question is how much of the calendar will be represented. Long Beach and Indianapolis are in, and the original game featured Watkins Glen, Road America, and Sonoma. Provided those all return, and so long as Indy also includes the road course, PCARS2 so far features six of the 16 races in the 2016 season.
Controversially, Indianapolis was originally ear-marked for the first game. While a Dallara DW12 did eventually arrive via DLC, dedicated oval racing remained absent. It appears the discipline will get its fair share of the limelight in the sequel.
