It’s funny how things work out sometimes. When the first gameplay footage of F1 2016 surfaced yesterday, I made a point of acknowledging that the Baku City Circuit, home to this weekend’s European Grand Prix, wasn’t shown in said footage.
If it’s a sneak peak you’re looking for, ahead of tomorrow’s inaugural first practice session at the new street circuit, Codemasters have uploaded an onboard lap of the Baku circuit to their official Youtube channel, with Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo at the virtual wheel.
With plenty of 90-degree corners, there’s going to be a lot of stop-start across the length of this 6 km circuit, as remarked by Ricciardo. This will make having enough speed when exiting the corner critical in getting the most from the straights.
While Daniel has yet to put rubber to the tarmac in the real world, he also remarks that the track appears to have undulations and has a bit going on. It’s interesting to note that the previous complex of turns, 8-11, feature a narrow uphill traversal as the cars speed past the Maiden Tower, circling the Old City before returning to the start/finish line.
The new city circuit is believed to be the fastest street circuit in the world, and will be second in length only to Spa-Francorchamps on the current F1 calendar.
Taking a lap around the all-new circuit isn’t the only thing unique about this video as we now know the game will be releasing onto the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms on August 19th, one week before the Belgian Grand Prix.

“When you get in the simulator you have to adjust all your feelings – you don’t get the same movements, the same bumps.
“You drive the same track the day before and on Monday you drive the simulator and the bumps aren’t there, the kerbs are different, the speed is different.

I like his “we need 20 more gears here” comment on that massive straight! lol
The section at 1:15 is absolutely terrifying.
Ah, gotta love Formula 1’s censorship. Video not allowed on GTP.
Absolutely ridiculous. I switched it out with the video from Codemasters.
