For those that purchased the Legends Edition of F1 2019, the racing season has begun today.
Codemasters’ latest arrives two months earlier than usual, just in time for the Austrian Grand Prix. We’ve already reviewed it, calling it the best entry in the franchise yet. It’s also the biggest.
This year’s game introduces the FIA Formula 2 feeder series. The whole 2018 season is in there from day one, with Codies promising this year’s lineup will arrive later as free DLC. The F2 cars play a key role in the game’s career mode, where two fictional drivers will challenge players for the title, before joining them on their F1 adventure.
The main event gets a shakeup with official driver team changes. These can even happen mid-season, meaning you can expect the lineup to look completely different at the end of the 10-year career mode.
Also new is a revamped online mode. It includes a dedicated section for all of the official F1 Esports Series goings-on, as well as a robust Leagues system. The latter will allow players to coordinate their own series, as drivers or organizers, all from within the game. A new spec car, allowing for some user customization, also debuts.
As for the headline content? The Legends Edition includes special Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost liveries, avatars, and in-game events.
F1 2019 will be available in its regular form this Friday, June 28, on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
