If you weren’t sure whether F1 2020 was for you, now is the ideal time to find out. For PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners there’s a new free trial version of the game to give you a taste of the action.
Available to download from the respective platform stores, the F1 2020 Free Trial gives you access to some of the game’s various play modes — though naturally stops some way short of allowing you the full experience.
Single player arcade mode is available, giving players the chance to try out the game’s handling and driver assists. You’ll also be able to use the new split-screen mode with a friend or family member. Both modes appear to be limited to Austria’s Red Bull Ring, which eventually proved to be the location of the first (and second) grand prix of a very chaotic season.
In addition to driving, the free trial also grants you access to My Team. This is an all-new team management mode for F1 2020, which casts you in the role of a driver-manager for your own new team on the F1 grid.
You’ll be able to engage with all of the functions of My Team in the trial. That includes creating your team, designing your car and team branding, picking up sponsors and a power unit, and recruiting the driver who’ll be your team-mate. Then you’ll head out to Australia for the first race of the season and see how everything pans out over your team’s debut weekend.
If you want to carry on to Bahrain, or experience the rest of F1 2020 — from the online multiplayer to the career mode — you’ll need to pick up the full game. Given that there’s currently 50% off on both platforms in the Black Friday sales, it would seem that there’s no better time to do so; you’ll also have until the end of the month to qualify for the F1 Esports 2021 Challenge Series via an in-game time trial.
