Today marks only the launch date and edition announcement for F1 24, with more details coming down the line. However it’s pretty easy to be certain that, at a minimum, the title will feature the ten teams, 20 drivers, and 24 circuits of the 2024 Formula One World Championship — while senior creative director Lee Mather notes that “we’re bringing players an overhauled Career mode, a new EA Sports Dynamic Handling System, and so much more”.
F1 24 officially launches on May 31 and will continue to support eighth-gen consoles. It’ll be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, and PC through EA, Epic, and Steam.
You’ll be able to pick the game up in two different forms, with the base version and — as expected — a Champions Edition. At present EA hasn’t issued specific information on the differences, other than the Champions Edition being a digital exclusive and offering three days’ early access, but we’re going to assume some profile cosmetics and a Pitcoin bump as with F1 23.
However, players who pre-order the F1 24 Champions Edition will receive special bonuses for the current title, F1 23. EA will deliver two batches of 2024 content to F1 23, giving players the chance to drive the new vehicles in time trial challenges up to three months early.
That’ll start with the Alpine, Haas, McLaren, and Williams cars and liveries from today — ahead of the first race of the season this coming Saturday (yes, really) — with a second batch from the remaining teams coming at the end of April.
Mather comments: “For the first time, our F1 23 players can now connect immediately with the 2024 season with some of their favourite teams ahead of this weekend’s first Lights Out”.
Additionally F1 23 players will receive the Alpine and McLaren esports liveries — although the less said about the 2023 F1 esports series, “F1 Sim Racing”, the better at this point — which will carry into F1 24 too.
There’s other, regular pre-order bonuses too, with Champions Edition pre-orders carrying 18,000 Pitcoin, two new F1 “Icons”, and a “Bumper Pack” for F1 World in addition to access from May 28 . Standard Edition pre-orders receive an F1 World “Starter Pack” and 5,000 Pitcoin. All pre-orders receive a bonus VIP Podium Pass.
EA is also offering a loyalty bonus for a limited time starting today. Players who own any one title from F1 2021, F1 22, or F1 23 will get a 15% discount on a pre-order of the F1 24 Champions Edition — and while we don’t currently have a price for this, it’s likely to represent a saving of around $13.50.
