Fanatec ClubSport Wheel V2 Praised in Community Reviews

amar-fanatec-csw2

Steering wheel controllers have come a long ways over the past few years, and with Logitech reducing their involvement in the sim-racing accessory market, competition has picked up between higher-end manufacturers like Thrustmaster and Fanatec.

Two years ago, Fanatec released their ClubSport Wheel (CSW) to much fanfare and many positive reviews in the sim-racing community. Now, the second generation has arrived with the launch of the CSW V2.

Gran Turismo enthusiast Amar212 has spent a few weeks with the CSW V2 and has written an extensive review of the new wheel base after using it for a considerable amount of time using the latest GT6 1.12 update. Needless to say, he was quite pleased with the improvements over the previous model, going so far as to claim it as “the best wheel on the market” for Gran Turismo 6.

Community member eKretz has also posted his own extensive review, comparing the V1 with the V2 CSW unit, and HoiHman has shared his own thoughts and pictures here.

Very good review.. I will stick with my T500RS and TH8RS shifter though thanks, not buying a £500 wheel setup every year or even 5 years to be honest. For me that wheel represents the best there is at the price.

Doesn’t it kind of slant things in the article if the wheel is tested with the new FFB effects of 1.12? The most objective way to try the wheel would have been to use each wheel after the 1.12 update and then compare otherwise how does one differentiate between the better effects of the update and the better performance of the wheel?

$2400? I live in Australia too, I have ordered the CSW v2 base @ AU$655. To go along with this I bought CSP v2 pedals (AU$299) and I bought 2 rims (you don’t need 2 obviously but I wanted the choice) and that came to AU$518 for both. So for AU$1472 you get pedals, 2 rims and the v2 base. Considering the price of the T500RS and what you get for it (brushed motor, single wheel, non load cell pedals) compared to the Clubsport set up (Brushless servo, quick connect wheels, displays on the wheels, load cell pedals, professional race car looking wheels with Alcantara grips) I think it’s not that bad in price. It certainly falls a lot short of the AU$2400 price you listed.

This seems like a good buy. Especially if you are wanting to be a pc/ps3-exclusive gamer. However if you want to make a jump to next gen, Id wait. Sony is being tight-lipped about their lack of support for “current-gen” racing wheels.

My bad, Punknoodle, I had two wheels as well (I only needed one).

So I did the ordering again…
The base is $785, The CSW V2 pedals are $329. Throw in a classic steering wheel at $460, a shifter at $230 and the necessary mounting clamps and I’m still looking at $1900. That’s a lot of folding money for a steering wheel. Sure you can option down from what I’ve chosen, but still, I guess you pay through the nose for what you want.

Holy mother of God it’s a 4 digit number for an entire setup! Thinking I’ll be stuck with my G27 indefinitely :(
