Ferrari 430 Scuderia Destroyed in Bizarre Motorway Crash

Picking up your new Ferrari might be the best day in a petrolhead’s life. For one unlucky chap in South Yorkshire, UK, it quickly turned into one of the worst.

The South Yorkshire Police Operational Support Services released these pictures to Twitter, showing some very mangled remains in a field. The wreck in question is all that remains of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, typically worth around $220,000.

Amazingly, despite what seems to be a pretty severe crash, the driver escaped with cuts and bruises. It’s not clear exactly what happened, but South Yorkshire Police was able to confirm that it was a single vehicle collision in wet road conditions, and excess speed was not to blame.

This particular stretch of motorway — the M1 between Barnsley and Wakefield — has no protective barrier at the edge of the road, explaining how the Ferrari ended up so far from the carriageway.

As the police arrived at the scene, the car was well ablaze and the local fire and rescue service was busy dousing it. The officers were unable to identify the car in question, so asked the driver. He responded:

“It was a Ferrari. I’ve only just got it, picked it up an hour ago.”

Ouch.
