The second and final Regional Qualifier in the 2022 Ferrari Velas Esports Championship will be live at 1845 UTC today. Four races will determine the final 12 drivers for the European Final in September, with the top qualifiers in each of four hotlap events go head to head.
Players have been trying to set their fastest times over the last two months, using both Assetto Corsa and, new for 2022, Assetto Corsa Competizione. In each case, the top 24 times made it through to this Regional Qualifier, with the European final today and the new North America region tomorrow.
As drivers are only permitted to enter one race in each of the two Regional Qualifier events in their region, we’ll see 96 different names competing for the last 12 places in the European Final today — although it’s likely some who didn’t make it through in June’s first Regional Qualifier will be having another shot.
However there are only 12 spots left up for grabs, and that means only the top three players in each of this evening’s four races will earn their place.
The schedule for the races is as follows:
- Race 5 – AC – Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo
- Race 6 – AC Competizione – Circuit of the Americas – Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo
- Race 7 – AC – Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps – Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo
- Race 8 – AC Competizione – Indianapolis – Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo
Regular presenters Paul Jeffrey and Nicki Shields will host the events, alongside special guest Maya Weug, who races for the Iron Dames team and is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Registered viewers will be entered into a prize draw for Ferrari clothing too.
Following these Regional Qualifiers, there’ll be a Regional Final later this month, which will see the 24 finalists in each zone whittled down to just three. Those final six will then advance to an in-person Grand Final event in Italy to be broadcast in October.
There can be only one winning driver though, and they’ll take the novel prize of a place on the Ferrari Velas Esports Team for 2023 — following in the tire tracks of 2020 winner Giovanni de Salvo and 2021 champion Kamil Pawlowski who also did.
You can tune into the Regional Qualifier from 1845 UTC on Tuesday September 6.
