The 2017 Geneva International Motor Show is fast approaching, with the doors set to open next week. In preparation for what’s sure to be a busy event, Alpine has gotten the jump on the competition by unveiling the production version of its new sports car.
After years of teasers including last year’s Alpine Vision concept, we’re happy to report the production A110 stays remarkably faithful to what has come before. Alpine has also decided to revive its most famous of model names for the new two-seater, which is appropriate given how much the new car borrows from the seminal ’60s model.
Those looking for technical specifications will have to wait for Geneva. Alpine has revealed scant details so far, outside of confirming the car will be powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine hooked up to a dual-clutch transmission.
A 0-60 mph time in 4.5 seconds places the A110 somewhere between the 718 Cayman S and Alfa Romeo 4C, a spot it is expected to sit in terms of curb weight as well. A largely aluminium structure is to thank for the low curb weight, though Alpine stresses that the interior will feel like a premium product (as one would expect of a car with a list price around €55,000).
While those fortunate enough to already be on the order books should expect their cars within the next year or so, sim racers will surely want to take the car for a digital spin as well.
Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi was at the Vision’s reveal last year, and Gran Turismo 6 players have had access to the brand’s far-out Vision Gran Turismo machine since 2015. Perhaps the relationship between Alpine and PD could result in the reborn A110 filling the grid in GT Sport when it releases later this year?
The Geneva International Motor Show kicks off March 9. Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more updates on the event!
