The 85th running of Le Mans happens next month. Ford’s GT will be defending its GTE crown, and now sim racers can expect it to arrive in iRacing.
The news comes courtesy of the official iRacing Twitter. In his statement, company president Tony Gardner confirms the Ford alongside the Ferrari 488 that runs in the same class. Both cars are complete and have been sent to their respective manufacturers for final approval.
If all goes to plan, iRacing subscribers will have access to one or both cars soon. Ideally, the team hopes to have the GT and 488 available before iRacing’s own 24H race, which happens June 10. Even if that can’t happen, Gardner states the cars will be released as soon as the approval process is complete.
The introduction of the cars will see a shake-up in the existing IMSA series in iRacing. Out go the GT3 machines, though the recently added Porsche remains. Should the GTE vehicles be ready for the Le Mans race, iRacing will retire the old, previous-gen Ford GT GT2.
The controversial Ford is slowly spreading across the sim racing world. It first showed up as a free add-on in Forza Motorsport 6 last summer. In addition, it’s been confirmed for Project CARS 2, which launches late 2017.
