I recently discovered an alternative, that does the same but works even faster...
and in settings you can choose the compression you wanna use (with CompactGUI you always needed to reselect the compression method on every run).
It's called Compactor , and can be found here:
https://github.com/Freaky/Compactor
Here's a screenshot of the program in action:
For periodic analysis and compacting assetto content folder, this one works much faster for some reason. I guess the gain in diskspace will be the same approx . with both CompactGUI and this one...
This should not mess up your files in any way, but just to be on the safe side it's always recommended to have a backup at hand...
Note:
if you decide to
copy your
compressed content folder to another drive (for backup purpose or to switch to a larger drive for example) beware that the data
will be written on the new drive in
uncompressed format.
So in other words it could be you want to copy a content folder that takes up 3TB (compressed) to a new 4TB drive , that you will not be able to do that in 1 go (as the uncompressed content folder would be nearly 6 TB for example).
You must then copy the data over in smaller batches (and use Compactor each time on the copied data on the new drive to compress it before copying over a next batch).
