What is the point in "Tuner Village" ?

Wow, you can get the SAME parts that give the SAME power with a different name on them.. even though after you buy them, you have no idea what brand it is anyways, so what's the point in the Tuner Village area?

Jay

No point, it's just a place where you can buy their cars and buy parts for them, along with parts for some major manufacturer's cars.

So you don't even get different stuff from the tuner village? man what a ripoff. Well, except for the tuner cars...

There are "original" parts that offer superior performance over the best parts available at the manufacturer tuner. For example I bought my Supra a Stage 5 "original" Turbo kit. It offers better low-mid rpm power than the Stage 4 available at TRD yet it has the same top end power. There is also "Original" Suspension kits that are "stiffer" than the race suspension kit. However there are no differneces between tuner companies. ex. Blitz offers the same kit/same power as HKS does. IMO there is no point in purchasing anything other than the "original" parts at the tuner village.

yeah you can get original parts. they are made to get the best performace out of the car. so it says on the description. like stage 5 turbo and "original _____" like suspension and stuff

Well now thats what I wanted to hear! Thanks mig2jz!

The only thing I can think of, is that the Tuner Village is a place on the map you can go tune your car QUICKLY without having to sift through a few menus and dealerships, etc. to get to them. As far as I can tell, there's no differences in power made from parts and even powerband changes.. they are all the same whilst modding the CRX. Pfft.

I checked every part I bought for my Civic. The power was the same from every source. My vote is advertising dollars at work.

I totally agree with you!! This is sort of like NFSU2.. The whole reason they had missions all over the "City" was because you ended up at locations where you almost always saw the Billboards with all the Ads.

Like you said, they just found a way to squeeze a little more cash out of the game.

The parts Don't have a higher / lower performance rating.

It sounds like fun from what I've read. You know, be able to go to the Tuning Village to find cars to buy or mod. Nowadays, Gran Turismo is really expanding from its "just a video game" status. I think since PD had those GT4 awards or whatever, GT4 wanted to expand into the auto market, if only in America and/or Japan. So nowadays, I guess GT wants to flow into the mainstream now, so a racing game doesn't have to be just a racing game. In this case, it's kind of expanding into the tuner market. You're not going to get anything like SRS or NFS:U, but you have pure tuner cars that can own the road and be pure performers.

With trying to expand into as many markets as possible, it would be pretty cool to see GT try to break into this field. For you tuning car fans in Europe, I normally don't read or hear about any popular tuning divisions. How is the tuning scene in Europe, and if GT were really into European tuners with European cars, what's the hottest auto groups in Europe?

Funny you should say that, but on The Screen Savers tonight was a little featurette on GT4 with the creator. There was some random guy with him there from an import mag that actually spoke more than the GT4 guy! Weird.

On the Japanese version I found a car that could only be tuned there. The Sileighty (which I would have said was a Nissan, but there was no option to get it Nismo tuned).

Well there is the unique racing cars they offer but also speaking stricktly of the HPA motorsports R32 Stage 2...It's 31K and 500+hp, it's a steal.

I like it.It gives it a new look .I plan to do everything that is offered in this game.I'll have cars modded up here as well from the dealer.

Tuner's village has 3 purposes from my point of view:

- to make you aware of the tuning companies for particular (japanese mostly) models , as some companis tunes only just some models (commercial reason),

- to give you the impression of having modified your car by your favorite tuner - if you do not do it in real life, then it will mean nothing to you, but if you prefer HKS Turbos, then having the ability to buy them will make you happier. Useless? Maybe. But it still makes you feel good (personal reason), and

- to buy a special models, as every tuner has at least one special model in their catalogue, and all of them are Must-Have IMHO (collector's reason).

So, there is some use of a Tuner's Village after all.

Exactly. Just imagine the purpose of all other companies, if (for example) Spoon had the best parts. Then we would all have just Spoon tuned hondas. But since the parts are the same, you can use the firm of your liking without feeling bad, that it's parts don't give same ammount of power as some others.

John, real performance tuning is alive and well in Europe (and not just the F&F type stuff - but that is huge as well).

As for who is about, well you have the obvious ones (most of them linked to the manufacturer)
  • AMG
  • M Sport
  • Alpina
  • Renaultsport
  • Ford RS
  • a lot more

In addition to that a huge number of private tuning specialists are about, heres one of my favorites Norris Designs, mainly specialise in Japanese car tuning.

The pictures are from the Norris Design Evo 7 RS, which runs the following figures on an engine dyno - 684 Hp & 578Lbft (2.1 Bar)
771Hp & 643LbFt (2.5 Bar).

Now I would have liked to see that in the Tuners village

In regard to Tuner competitions, have a look at

Oh you skipped some of them out .. there is more ...

For audi (for example)i: There is the original Quattro Gmbh in factory, which is responsible for RS models, Abt, Mtm, Oetinger, ...

For Mercedes: AMG, Brabus, Carlsson, ...

For BMW: AC Schnitzer, Hamman, Lorenz, ...

There is more, these are just the main ones, that come to mind when talking about them ...

AMG is one of the best tuner companys of Mercedes-Benz

AMG is not a 'tuner'. They used to be but now are owned by Mercedes-Benz. They are used to produce high performance versions of Mercedes vehicles. I guess you can say they are similar to Nismo, TRD in that respect. Those are not really tuners either, they are factory in-house performance people.

Which is also my manufacturer owned people are with the factory and the real tuners have their own village now...

AMG is not a tuner, but Brabus, RenTech, etc...are
