Reading this month's EVO has given me an idea I thought I would run by you all. They are tryin to run a sub 8 minute lap on the 'Ring using a used car and only spending 15,000 pounds. If anyone is interested here are the guidelines we would use.

1)can only spend up to $26,214 credits (including car)
2)only N-tires are considered stock. If you wish to use S tires it comes out of your budget.
3)must use a car from the used car lot
4)any modifications are allowed
5)no NOS
6)TCS and ASM off

If anyone is interested sign up in this thread.

I'm in :mischievous:

I've got a car in mind, and I'll bet you guys 500cr. that it's the winner ;) (might not be me driving it though :P )

EDIT:

Ok, had a first go ... should we post times, or PM them to you, Speedy?

I did a 7'23.086 in a Toyota Supra RZ '97

Used car lot late 90´s $15,364
Wing $1,200
Oil $50
Weight Reduction 1 $1,200
Turbo 1 $4,800
Sports Intercooler $1,800
Racing Chip $1,500
Total cost $25,914
Result 379HP 1328kg

280KMH/174MPH on the long straight
Its a nice handling car too.

Nice run 👍 What tires are you using, GT-Kongen?

I've got a 7'22.xxx so far (I don't have the exact time handy right now, I'll post it in the morning).

Sports medium as it comes with. IRL it would have come with N2(high performance radials) so you actually get the $6,000 sports medium tires for free. The real prize is actually $31,914

I'm definetly in, I've a perfect car for this challange. But what if the car comes with sport tires? Is it in the total cash? Correct me please.

Ok, here's what I've got so far:

Code:
TVR Griffith 500 '94 20,555cr.
Wing 1,200cr.
Sports Suspension 3,300cr.
Racing Flywheel 1,100cr.
Oil Change 50cr.

Total 26,205cr.

324hp @ 1060kg on SM tires.

7'22.679

I didn't realize it, but my oil had gone bad. I'll have to try again with the full 340hp, as I was only getting around 160mph on the straight. The car is great, handles nicely and lots of grunt. With SS tires, it would be perfect (I'm still having to lift/brake for flugplatz and schwedenkreuz), but there's not enough cash for those puppies.

what is everyone's opinion on this? If in reality the car came with N tires do we include the cost of the road legal sticky S tires? I think it would make the competition and the sub 8 minute a little more realistic..

I am leaning towards counting the S tires into the price seeing as we already have people more than 30 seconds under the 8 minute mark. Which would mean that if you keep your S tires on they count against your money total.

I've tried the TVR Griffith 500, only 7.22.xxx :( 👎

Edit : I didn't buy the suspension part, I bought a sport exhaust thing.

I agree on that.
Please edit your first post so its clear

My new time is 7'25.408 using
Toyota Supra RZ '97 $15,364
Wing $1,200
Oil $50
Weight Reduction $1,200
Sports soft tires $6,800
Racing chip $1,500
Total cost $26,114
Result 340HP 1,328kg
270KMH/168MPH on the long straight

39HP less, but softer tires and only 2 sec slower than before. Thought I would be at least 10 sec slower.

Now, that actually a good idea and it would make some challange too 👍

First post updated. S tires now cost against your total.

also, Luxy, feel free to post all your information (times, mods, etc). This isn't a big deal of a competition, just us having some fun playing around with EVO's idea. It is great to see what everyone has done to the car of their choosing.

Hmm ... well, I guess the Griffith is out, then. It's too expensive. I'm keeping an eye out for one of those 15,000 cr. Supras, but the cheapest one I've seen is 17,000 :yuck:

I tried an '89 R32 Skyline GT-R($15k) and a '95 DC2 Integra Type R($7k). I got an 8'31.xxx with both cars. :ouch: Funny thing was, it was a lot easier with the 240hp ITR than it was with the GT-R that had another 100hp or so.

Is it okay to get a chassis refresh? I don't think I saw it mentioned in the thread. If we could do that it would probably help a lot.

Instead of a Griff, a TVR V8S might work. Should be older/cheaper. I have a stock one that I got a while ago. I can't remember how much it cost me though, so I guess I can't enter it. :nervous:

I took out a Toyota MR2 GTS and modded it within budget. Did a 8'03 but I know I can get it under 8 mins if I drive alot better. Anyone else find any more cars that may pull it off?

Yes here is another one

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Ver IV '97 $10,146
Wing $1,200
Oil $50
Sports soft tires $6,800
Weight reduction 1 $1,200
Turbo 1 $4,800
Sports exhaust $1,600
Total cost $25,796
Result 324HP 1,137 kg
Lap time 7'39.288
Top speed 258KMH/160MPH

The TVR V8S '91 havent got enough power - 216HP stock. The one I bought costed $20,789

One of the used camaro's should be able to do it fairly easily. There's one that only costs about 8,000cr. and has around 300hp. I bought it, but I haven't run it yet.

Okay, I tried again. Somehow, I managed to find a TVR Griffith 500 within the price limit. I think there might be a few different types based on mileage.
Mine was red, had 39,746.4 miles, and was 20,555 cr.
The next cycle showed a black one with 34,582.6 miles, and cost 29,365 cr.

For my Griff, I tried doing mods that I could take off. This would allow me a few different 'configurations' I could try on the track.

Configuration 1:
TVR Griffith 500: 20,055 cr.
Oil Change: 50 cr.
Wing: 1,200 cr.
Stage 1 Lightweight: 1,300 cr.
Semi-Race Flywheel: 650 cr.
Sports Clutch: 1,800 cr.
Total: 25,555 cr.

Configuration 2:
TVR Griffith 500: 20,055 cr.
Oil Change: 50 cr.
Wing: 1,200 cr.
Stage 1 Lightweight: 1,300 cr.
Semi-Race Flywheel: 650 cr.
Sports Clutch: 1,800 cr.
Hard Sports Tires: -1,000 cr.
Total: 24,555 cr.

Configuration 3:
TVR Griffith 500: 20,055 cr.
Oil Change: 50 cr.
Wing: 1,200 cr.
Stage 1 Lightweight: 1,300 cr.
Semi-Race Flywheel: 650 cr.
Sports Clutch: 1,800 cr.
Standard Tires: -6,500 cr.
Sports Computer: 1,800 cr.
Sports Suspension: 3,300 cr.
Total: 25,955 cr.

I've only run the first configuration, though. I got a 7'55.xxx on my first lap, even though I goofed pretty bad early in the lap. On my second try, I made a 7.49.968, but I messed up a little near the end. With a little more time, I could probably get a clean lap in, and my times should drop.

I doubt the car will drive better on Sport Hards with no other changes, so I won't bother with configuration 2.

Configuration 3 might be faster, if I can set up the suspension well. With about 360hp( versus stock 345hp) though, I have to wonder if the car will behave all that well on N3 tires.

Please read the rules again.
If you are using sports tires their price should be added to total cost, cause IRL the car comes with normal tires. Not the expensive sports tires you get for free in GT4 when buying a car.

Nice idea with the thread. 👍

I spent ages with an '89 Miata (because I own one) trying out various configurations but didn't manage to get much below 8:20. Obviously, it costs way too much to tune the engine to a level that will give you enough power for the straight bits.

Then I thought I'd give another older car a go:

Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited '85: 5994
Stage 2 turbo: 13000
S1 tyres: 4600
Weight reduction 1: 1100
Sports exhaust: 1250
Oil change: 50

Total cost: 25994
Specs:284bhp, 1164kg
Time: 7:59.128

Then tried something newer:

Honda S2000 '99: 16900
S2 tyres: 5500
Weight reduction 1: 1100
Computer chip: 1250
Semi-racing flywheel: 550
Oil change: 50

Total cost: 25350
Specs: 256bhp, 1165kg
Time: 7:59.653

Only did a lap in each, so I'm sure I could have gone a bit quicker with a few more rounds, but probably not a huge amount.
