Hot-Lap Qualifying, 9 Lap Sprint Race and 14 Lap Feature Race

Sunday, December 16th, 2007 @ Midnight(24:00) GMT (7:00 pm EST)

We make our way south-bound on I-5 towards California again. This time we'll be stopping in Monterrey and the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the seventh round of the Clio Cup series.

Laguna Seca was originally built back in 1957 and was modified in recent years to host the World Superbike Championship, the MotoGP US Grand Prix, the Moterrey Historic Auto Races and the annual Monterrey Sportscar Championship. This eleven turn course includes the famous (and gut-wrenching) Corkscrew at turn 8. Turn 9 has been renamed 'Rainey Curve' in honor of 500 c.c. Grand Prix Motorcycle World champion Wayne Rainey, a resident of nearby Salinas, California.

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by the GTP Clio Cup officials. Any and all questions should be directed to the GTP Clio Cup officials(CAMikaze and RACECAR) and they will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manner.
All drivers must run at the specified Tires, Top Speed, Weight and Horsepower settings for each round.

All Other Standard Online Racing Rules apply.
  • No Cheating, Hybrids, or any funny stuff like that. Run the car according to the Specifications please.
  • Try and keep two wheels on the road at all times. No shortcuts.
  • No wall-riding. It slows you down.
  • TCS and/or ACS is allowed IF DESIRED, but NOT mandatory.
  • Discussion of the split times is allowed but the full lap and race times are not be mentioned in the thread until the results have been posted and made official. Doing so will subject the driver to a time penalty to be added on to the qualifying and/or race time.
  • Times must be submitted by PM to CAMikaze and RACECAR by the Deadline listed. Otherwise a time penalty of 1 second for every minute after the deadline it is sent in by will be assesed to the Qualifying and Race times. Should the time submission not be sent in to the GTP Clio Cup Stewards by 2 hours after the deadline has passed, the times sent in after then will not be counted in the results.

Please make sure you send your Times formatted this way. It'll make it easier, and we'll be good.;)
Code:

A couple more notes before we get things going here.

  • Some Ground Rules: Laguna Seca has plenty of places where you might run off the track if you're not careful. And you'll find out what I mean if you do(with the rough terrain and sand).:mischievous: And there's to be no passing the cars while you're off the track, especially when going through the Corkscrew section.👎:irked: If you were passing while off the track, please allow the cars that you passed to go by again unless you were forced off by one of the other cars contacting you.
  • Remember when you're racing, the settings for the AI must be at least Level +5 and on Racing: Hard tires.
  • Again regarding submitting your times, for the Clio Cup Season once you have submitted your times, they're locked in and can not be changed. If you believe you can do better, hold off on sending the times in until you believe you cannot do any better or don't think you would have any more time to try to set a faster time. And make sure you PM your final times to myself(CAMikaze) and RACECAR before the race deadline so that you don't get asessed any penalties. ;)👍

And with all that said...

Good luck, and good racing to all of you!:sly:👍

***Bad Boys Racing has clinched the Clio Team Cup***

Wow, Love the new look. I'm certainly looking forward to this round now. I've known this track since GT2 and have driven almost everything here so hopefully I'll do we.

Random Irony: It just so happens that I have a Nissan in my Avatar and you have a Renault in yours. Coincidence?

You can thank mnm_bmx for the banners. He's pretty good at them.;)👍 Hopefully he can do some work for some of the other series going on here.:D

Dunno about that. ^^; But the car that's in your avvie is a really good one.:sly:👍

I could certainly use some pointers from him on how to make some very professional banners.

Why thank you. Yours is good as well. Nissan and Renault are an Alliance. From what I know, they're on good relations, which is why I pointed that irony out.

First three laps worth of splits. First lap:

T1: 0'23.410

T2: 0'46.749

T3: 1'09.143

Second Lap:

T1: 0'23.420

T2: 0'45.355

T3: 1'08.249

Third Lap:

T1: 0'23.275

T2: 0'44.994

T3: 1'07.829

I have gotten much better with each lap. This is the first track where I actually am proud of my progress.

Racecar - Nice splits 👍

Had a few runs yesterday and quite a bit a improvement to find

T1 - 23'209 . Have seen 22'9xx

T2 - 45'009 Have seen 44'7xx

T2 - 1'07.476

Happy racing,

nige

Sounds as though you need a pit stop!!!! Haven't tried it myself yet :scared:

New splits after a very frustrating session !

T1 - 23'150

T2 - 44'740

T3 - 1'07.392

Last session for today

T1 - 23'040

T2 - 44'597

T3 - 1'07.059

nige

Here's what I have for my Qualifying splits so far...

T1 - 23.236

T2 - 45.041

T3 - 1'08.309

Plenty of time to improve on them, which to me is good since I have 2 other series that I take part in.:D

Couldn't improve on T1 or T2 but managed a slight improvement at T3 - 1'07.036 which improved overall lap time by 0.1. I'm sure there is more to find if only I could be more consistent !
Happy racing,

nige

I am enjoying this round. Hope you all are as well. 👍
Is anybody managing to take the turn after the bridge ( 4 on the map ) flat out or near flat out without braking? I have to brake ever so slightly to get the car lined up correctly. It probably it can be done but I don't yet have the nerve to do it
Can manage 14 laps on one set of tyres. Fronts are orange by the last lap but it's not worth pitting in.

Edit - New best qualifying splits :

T1 - 22'995

T2 - 44'582

T3 - 1'06.773

Happy racing,
nige

Very nice splits,nige!
I need to brake there too...
I know that it could be faster but I haven't got the nerve for it either.
Your T3 looks good. 👍
The other problematic corner for me is the last one...I am not able to find the right braking place for it. :scared:

I brake hard at the number 2 marker and aim to accelerate just before the apex of the corner. This gives me the fastest speed through this corner,

Oh 🤬
Its Thursday and I still haven't done a single race yet. Did
a practice run yesterday, had a problem with the understeeering, but all things are well I hope..... :)

That makes it about 3 times submitted with less than 46 hours until the deadline. Hope the rest of you are hard at work on your races. :)👍

Make that 4, Chris. Time submitted!! :D ---- Randy

Time submitted to CAMikaze.
Well it was a hard race, but I did made it through the weekend. :) I was always misjudging the corners and always go off! But somehow I manage to do a better race during the feature race than in the sprint race! 👍 But a good job none the less. So this makes it 5, well lets hope we get more entries by the deadline.

Less than 5 hours until the deadline and I have received a 6th in my Inbox earliier today. Hopefully we'll have more submissions by then.

With the Christmas and New Year's holidays coming up, I was wondering if I should extend the deadline for the next round by a week or so. Maybe we'll have more of our competitors be able to do the races.

Well I'm fine with that. 👍 Cause I need to go on a holiday next week :D But i'll try to submit the entry by new year or so depending on how hard it is. Plus, school starts after new year, so I might not have enough time to do the race.....

Personally I would be quite happy for it to stay as it is. I finish work on Wednesday for Christmas so should be able to find some quality time amongst all the Christmas chores.
However I see that it may be different for others so I'm quite happy to go with whatever you decide.

Times submitted, possibly late-ish (aghh! :ouch:)

Just a thought: should people also include how many times (approximately) each race was attempted (or finished)? It's not that important, it would just be interesting to see how many times drivers are doing each race to get the times they are getting. Any thoughts?

Just so you all know, I'll get to doing the results as soon as I can. Had some helping around the house to do during the day and night as well as getting some races done for the other series in between. :embarrassed:

Also, I'll have the Round 8 Thread posted a little later on. And considering it's almost Christmas, I'll be extending the time allowed for the competitors to get their times in so that they'll be able to fully enjoy the holidays with their family and friends.:)

UPDATE: Just got all the times entered except theres some info needed from one of our drivers in regards to his Qualifying time. I'll have the results compiled and posted at the earliest oppurtunity on my part.
